Question about ranked prolly an easy answer

Hey quick questions, finally made it to gold (woot) but when league switched servers my latency has made ranked kind of a no go if i am going to be fair to other summoners. So I haven't played ranked in quite a while, i looked today and i have 2 pts in G5 down from 98, is this because of not playing, i lose rank? Anyone know if i will be demoted before seasons ends, or how to stop me from being demoted? thanks in advance
