Monsters and Minion Kills; Do Assists Count?

When you go to your profile, under your stats or overview there is: Takedowns, Monsters and Minion Kills and Wins. For Monsters and Minion Kills, what if you're maining a Support, and you aren't supposed to get kill but assists. That's kind of unfair to the supports. If I am wrong, and the assist do count as Monster and Minion kills, then please correct me. If I am not, Riot please find a way to fix this.
