Silver II Player Aiming for Gold, in Need of Some Advice

Any chance I can get to Gold before the season ends? On work days I can play up to 3 hours, on my days off I could basically play until I get burnt out. From now until the end of the season I have 2 days off (one tomorrow, one on Monday). It took me a little over 52 matches to get where I am today (Silver II with 21 LP, 31 wins, 21 losses) if that's a bit of an indication to whether I can accomplish this or not.

If I do have a chance at this what kind of advice do you have for me? Here's some of my playing habits and a bit of a self-bio:

  • I prefer playing mid but I will play any role if necessary. I tend to avoid bot lane as much as possible for obvious reasons.
  • I rarely lose lane, if I feed a kill or two, I will play extremely passively and just farm under tower. I play passively for the most part unless I see a sure-fire chance at a kill or if my champ allows me to wins trades often.
  • I play safe champions for the most part. Mobility or a defensive spell are must for me.
  • I only overextend if I know where everyone is on the map, will rarely wander off on my own after laning phase.
  • I upgrade my trinkets the moment I hit level 9, unless I need the gold to complete a key item.
  • I buy wards whenever I go back to base, I probably buy too many wards so I need some advice on this.
  • If you need to look me up on lolking or whatever, feel free to do so, that way you can see some of my recent performance.

Looks like I'll just take my Diamond senpai's advice of "just play" and "50% of the time, your team will be your greatest enemy. Try to carry and not bring your team down." lol

Mid lane is probably the toughest lane to play, since you won't have the same impact that a top laner will have (thank you juggernaut patch...) even if you win your lane. Playing mid lane now isn't about winning your lane anymore, its about winning other lanes, explaining the double tp meta that we see. But since you don't have much time left before the season ends, here are some tips:

-Pick teleport and try to get good with it, I know it doesn't seem much, but being able to get a kill or two in other lanes than mid can be a massive advantage. You not only get yourself ahead, but also your teammates. Being able to tp at right moment means having a good map awareness (always look at your mini map when looking for ganks) but also a good lane control, you won't be able to gank other lanes if your always farming under turrets, shove the lane, than gank.

-Focus farming over trades, and kills over farm. This one is rather hard to do and to understand honestly, but to make it simple, mid lane now is more about romaing than anything else, so farm a lot and roam when you can. Even if roaming lose you 3 or 4 cs, maybe even a wave of cs, gaining pressure on the map can be crucial.

-Get vision, I know its something you're probably used to hear, but warding doesn't just mean warding your lane bushes, if you're winning your lane, try to get deep wards in the enemy jungle, it makes it way easier to see incoming ganks and is also more useful for other laners than a simple ward in the small river bush. Just try to see what to enemy jungler is up too and if you can, try to counter-gank him with tp.

-Learn to roam with your jungler, might look simple, but with top laners and mid laners running tp, teamfights at the dragon pit or bot lane happens way sooner. If you can play a gank with your jungler on the bot lane, this can turn a 3v2 gank into a 4v2, meaning that even the enemy top laner can't do anything about it and will mostly be late on his tp anyway.

Hope this was useful :p In other words, learn the meta. Just farm, shove the lane when you want to get deep wards or roam and look at the mini map for information about how the game's going.

Best thing I can tell you man i have found that the bot lane is the most fragile part of the team. If your going to play mid you HAVE to roam A LOT. If your decent at adc then you can just play bot. But the problem now is the tp meta makes bot lane a 5v5 lane. Try to duo with someone and go mid and have them jungle to feed you on a snowball champ(Diana Leblanc etc) or duo bot and play well. The other thing is if your going to jungle I highly recommend xin jhao right now. He's strong early and with devoured he's strong late. Gank mid at level 3, then bot or top lane at 4-5. Back and buy your jungle item upgrade with boots(and if you have enough buy mobis) so you can gank better. For mid I am a huge fan of Diana, swain, Leblanc and azir. But if you don't know what you doing on azir just play a safer ranged champ if the enemy team has a dive comp. Other ways that I see but don't use are just spamming heimerdinger mid because the low Elos can't deal with him. For top lane I like chogath, but a good riven eats that Elo apart. What champs are you good with?

Edit: You upgrade trinkets already and that is huge. I started winning a lot more when I did that. Always have a pink out there too don't forget!
