Unranked account in pre-season ranked

I just reached the 30 level in my account. Is it worth to play they placement games now or should I wait until the new season?

What does pre-season even do? If I reach Platinum in pre-season, will that mean I'll start as Platinum in 2019? So it would be like an early start to the next season?

Preseason is a basic continuation on the previous season, where you can increase / decrease your rank, if you reach platinum in preseason, its like reaching platinum in the 2018 season, so you are likely to be placed below platinum next year. If you play during pre season, its just a chance for you to increase your MMR to get placed higher than you would have next season if you didn't play, but if you lose more games, you can also lower your MMR and get placed in a worse position in the 2019 season. I would say if you do your placements in preseason or next is dependant on how well you think you will do, and how much you care. If you think you can win all 10, then you would be able to get plat 5 next season, where as if you were to do this in preseason, you would be placed lower than platinum next season, if you don't care about the rank much and just want to dive right in to ranked, then play now, but know you will most likely be placed at a lower rank next season, than you ended in 2018, or placed in pre season. good luck in your games and have a good day/night!
