Please Bring Back Spectating Random High Elo Games

CameronsABaddie··260 votes·9,524 views

I would love for you guys to bring back the spectating feature. I would always be on league of legends and spectate while I browsed the internet. I would spectate when i had a bad game and wanted to relax and get motivation to play another. I would spectate when I saw a summoner or champion I really like or was trying to get better with. I would spectate when I waited for my friends to get out of a game to join up with them. I would spectate to see the new champion released in action. I would spectate for fun and enjoyment. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!

Lots of Love From A Loyal League Of Legends Player

As long as Dynamic Queue stays, the spectating feature well be pretty useless, unless they fix how it acquires games.

I think so too.

Have to keep all that dirt under the carpet.

I don't understand your comment at all, can you explain it? Why would DynamicQ have an impact?

Dráze2 votes

This is because dynamic queue makes high elo players have extremely long queue times. This is something that wasnt a problem with solo queue, even though high elo players had long queue times. Its nothing as bad compared to now. Even in gold i sometimes wait 10 minutes for a game. I think it has to deal with the role selection and the premades.

It takes upwards of 30 min for people to get a single game in high elo since the system has too many variables to get a balaced game. Simply put, there are not enough high elo games for the number of people watching without overloading that single game.

Perhaps a solution to this could possibly be not spectating a live game, but rather one that is finished and happened most recently?

Rit hasn't implemented a way to save and playback games after they have been finished. There are some third party applications that can, but Riot has failed to provide a way to do so in their own client.

I! Loved! This! Feature! PLEAE Riot bring it back! Nothing was cooler than looking and seeing a REAL pro playing on one of their accounts and going to lurk in their game, or just checking out a champion you were trying to pick up! It was a great way for newbie players to get a feel for how to play the game correctly. I learned so much about decision making from watching high elo players play my favorite champions! I miss this so much! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Yes holy crap this was so cool. I loved watching them on occasion for a lot of reasons honestly

  • Seeing team comps that look interesting and watching how they work and what strategies they use at high elo
  • Seeing a champion I play and observing to see how the better players build/play/make decisions
  • Seeing a Lane match-up that I struggle with when playing as one of the champions
  • Simply learning how a champion should be played if I'm new with them or looking to start playing them

It was really unnecessary to remove in my opinion

stealthfox945 votes

Agreed I have no idea why it was removed, and screw twitch.

I know, so sad they removed it. It was so awesome having people tell me that I was on the front page in random games.

They're probably embarrassed to show the reality of their new dynamic queue in action. It's one thing to have a bunch of individuals complaining and chiming in with each other, but the pollyannas would end up getting an eyeful of reality, and see how busted and facerolly the matches are overall. I can see that some players might NOT play enough to run into what most of us are experiencing, but it would be on full display and unable to be refuted by even the whitest whiteknight. That said, I don't think they have the chimichangas to re-add the option to watch.... especially the higher ELO players.[zombie-brand-mindblown]

What? The 12 high elo games that happen a day? The spectate system would be just a black screen.

mikemcparty2 votes

It wasn't before, so that wouldn't be the case. If anything, they just need to broaden what is classified as high elo. Anything diamond or higher should be spectatable.

Akeydel1 votes

That's what it was before DynamicQ, even sometimes reaching down to high-plat. It shouldnt be much of a change.

Queue times are so long they can't find 5 high elo games happening at the same time

I know this isn't a suitable fix, but you can spectate high elo players by looking at the Top Ranked Players under the Leagues tab. If they are playing there will be an eye icon and you can right click them to spectate.

A better option is to pick up a 3rd party application that shows all the featured matches and allows you to start spectating from there. I use the replay recording program BaronReplays. You can also spectate the featured matches of other regions from there.

theres twitch for that edit: nobody likes twitch xD ok nevermind bring back the spectator thing

theres twitch for that

Yea but Twitch is from a very specific persons point of view. You'll have to watch from their view and their view only but spectator mode means you can watch from either teams perspective. Follow a certain player around or watch the whole team. You can change the fog of war and guess how plays are going to work out based on the vision either team has make guesses on whos going to win.

Back in like season 4 I used to bet on which team would win (after the 5 minute mark you were required to make a bet) this was between like 4-5 friends and we would bet skittles and other snacks on who would win. I think one night we did this for like 12 straight hours with youtube videos playing on the side.

Yeah, if you don't mind constant buffering-pauses.

It's now filled with more E-Commerce advertisements, whether it be merchandise or E-Sports Marketing.

I also meant what i said because the huge FAIL of DQ really shines brightly in high ELO games..... where balance in matchmaking is laid bare as having failed, where teams get devoured simply because they didn't have as many grouped players as the largest group they were playing against.... maybe not every time, but MOST of the time. Totally against what rito is trying to spoonfeed you sheeplings.[zombie-nunu-bummed] The wait time is another, lesser factor, in my mind.

Akeydel1 votes

Matchmaking will only extend the range of mmr if it would help shorten queue times significantly. Which means you either get incredibly long queue times, or unbalanced games. (or both in high enough rank) In anything below gold, you get neither because of the sheer amount of people playing. However maybe you notice uneven matchups a lot because the actual skill level in bronze 5 is so volatile. Thats a problem with the rating system, not with DynamicQ.

Download LoL Summoner Info (LSI), among other things it has a feature that allows you to spectate featured games of any server, I guess the program that picks these games is still running even though we don't have them in the client anymore.

Why don't you just spectate in the challenger list...

Why don't you just spectate in the challenger list...

man last twitch stream i saw with challenger player it took half hour for the que to pop then 10+ for the pick and bans for 25 min game.

so it took close to an hour to get 25 min game

xPLzzZx1 votes

I don't mean twitch stream. I mean you can go to the challenger tier list in the client and click on the eye button to spectate. There are always some challenger games going on whenever I check.

MuffleMouse4111 votes

I concur with the OP.

Decrit1 votes

Most probabily it will be delayed until the new client is on. But yeah, let's make things sure to have it back u.u

I wish they find a solution to the problem and let us spectate random games again. It was really fun to watch other people playing with your favorite champions, and you also learn a lot from those games.

Here's a reddit link where a Rioter responded as to the removal of Featured Spectator Games.

Edit - I too would LOVE to have the feature back, and possibly the option to see more than 5 games and sort by champion.

NO ONE WANTS TO SPECTATE A NORMAL BLIND DRAFT OR ARAM

angery pout1 votes

The old spectate feature was for high elo (generally diamond+) ranked games. It was a panel on the client homepage.

Hopefully this is brought back when the new client is released but I won't get my hopes up. Sometimes it's fun to watch people play who aren't in the LCS or streamers.

As Capt'n Pikard would say "Make it so"
