Riot ruining Support once again

Hello everyone,

I am confused about the patchnotes that just hit the live servers, riot is ruining the support role by these significant changes. I know Support was a strong role in competetive scene this season, but support has never been a role which was really loved by the community because most of the time Supports felt useless in a Game. The've changed the Supportrole to a better role making it more comfortable and fun to play.

So my question is why are they shifting back to the useless Support Meta. First of all they've already took down the share of Expierence you gain as a Duo or a Group. Skirmishes on lanes and the botlane overall are going to be a lot weaker, because of the XP difference you gain compared to Top and Midlane. They are removing CDR completly from the agressive Supportitemitem 3850 and the early bonus magic dmg + the mana regen you've gained. They even set down the Ability Power from 10 to 8 compensating all these nerfs with 15 Gold per ability or auto attack on a hit instead of 10 Gold + 10 Health and later on 70 Health with item 3851. The final Item Shard of True Ice item 3853 requires 1000 Gold of gaining from Frostfang item 3851 and gives you 150 Health 60 Ability Power (before 200 Health and 35 Ability Power with item 3312 ) You gain 3 Gold per 10 Seconds with item 3851 anditem 3853 instead of 2 but that isn't a huge difference overall.

I know this post is complaining more about Supports like Nami Janna Lulu Lux Soraka Rakan Sona and less about Tank and grab supports like Leona Nautilus Blitzcrank Thresh but they are also nerfed of course.

I just don't get the point of why are they shifting back the Supportrole to an really unhealthy place. The Gold income is going to be really small as it was a few seasons ago and Support is going to be really unsatisfying to play compared to every other Role.

people like playing support actually 2 of my friends only like playing support, they prefer it overall because its more laidback most of the time and when it isn't either way its fun to them, on the same note i dont know why they would nerf support at all its really stupid, (support is not that fun in my opinion) but I know if i tell my friends about this it will kinda tilt them, :))

Hey, you think you have it bad? I get hit twice.

I'm not only a support main (and you're right, these changes are really shit), I'm also a jungler, specialising in tanky initiators (i.e support junglers). I like to gank a lot to help my team and don't spend as much time farming as I should because someone somewhere always needs my help. And now Riot are nerfing the SHIT out of ganking junglers and issuing a stern mandate "Farm more, bitches!" Camps are respawning faster but giving less exp and gold, so you need to spend less time in lanes trying to contribute to your team and more time in the jungle whacking creeps.

Between the support nerfs and the jungler nerfs, I'm not going to enjoy LoL much this preseason...

Yeah didn't mention the jng changes here. They are also shit. I don't get the point of making bot and jng less impactful. Welcome back to the meta Toplane you ain't useless anymore......

IMO I think these changes are slightly better for the support role. Mages are the top dog in the support role, ADCs and other supports have to dodge several skillshots just to survive the laning phase(seriously ADCs will get two-shot by a Zyra ).Tank supportsSion Chogath Galio Braum Volibear (that don't have a hook) can barely function in their lane against a Mage. I also think this could be the reason why ADCs really don't have fun in their role they keep getting blown up by these mages instead of actually sustaining to the late game. Seeing how these items changes nerfs Mages early game and gives some decent sustain instead of getting one-shot themselves should be amazing for the support role.It gives them a chance to actually get for other supports to get a lead in the lane instead of losing half their health because they wanted to auto a minion for relic shield.

At least they have to aim and hit skill shots. You say it like adcs being expected to be able to DODGE while shooting unmissable autos is egregious.

I do agree that you can't dodge a ADC's autoattack. But here's the thing when you look at item 3312 it gives mana regen, cooldown reduction and ability power. So now you have an item that allows you to shoot skill shots constantly with little worry for your mana. Plus, when an champion autoattacks they're forced to stay still. So if you just wait for the ADC to autoattack a minion that's your opportunity to poke. Now with that in mind it's even worse when it comes to melee champions because now you have to move up to the minion wave to get some farm, making it even more ridiculously predictable to poke. You can test this out with a Darius and Teemo. Just wait for him to walk up to the minion wave and just auto, there's little he can do unless he engages(btw Teemo has blind and movement speed so good luck with engaging.). But I'm getting off topic, suppose a ADC is focusing you instead, it requires maybe 2-3 auto attacks for an ADC to start dishing out damage(let's assume that'll take 2 seconds), In that time a ZyraNeeko Veigar Velkoz Soraka can easily cc and q a ADC while they're auto attacking which then sets up for the other team's ADC.WHILE being a safe distance away from the opposing ADC. TL;DR aiming and hitting skillshots is subjective because cooldowns in the support lane is very low and mana is easily given back making dodging skillshots become dodging 40 skillshots.

Yet adcs never have to aim their auto attack and start doing far far far more reliable damage than those mages, and you can't hide behind minions.

ADC's in a sense do have to aim their autoattack, if you've even seen a ADC autoattack, reposition and then autoattack again, they had to right-click your character, move to the side, then right-click again on your character. A mistake would've put them in a worse position(perhaps right click beside you) they would be heading towards where you are making it easier for you to land skillshots. And in the early-game ADCs don't really good damage (just look at press the attack you literally have to land 3 auto attacks before you can truly deal all your damage), most of their damage comes from the support at the begining of the game. PS. All the mages I listed above have CC that goes through minions PSS. I don't remember mentioning that you can hide behind minions(Please correct me if i'm wrong)

Youre comparing auto attacking, something every champion does, to aiming a skill shot. Are you for real right now? You can even bind attack champion only and attack move click (what I do as adc) and it makes it even easier.

I mean, I did mention how press the attack requires 3 auto attacks before actually dealing damage or when you auto attack it keeps you in place on minions or champions making it easier for people to place skill shots on you? I mean just because every champion does it doesn't mean it's easy on every champion just look at Xerath vs Vayne Vayne doesn't have a single skill shot in her kit, yet Xerath can win easy in a 1v1.

Also, skill shots are not unique to Mages. Lotsa ADCs have skillshots are absolutely critical in landing to perform well with the champion:

Varus Ashe KogMaw Sivir Jhin Ezreal just to name a few.

Youre saying auto attacking isn't easy. I'm not sure what your point is exactly. They are still using skill shots while your kit requires zero aiming. No matter if they attack when you go to cs or not they still have to aim versus no aim, it's why adcs are the most played classes and still have very high winrates and are REQUIRED in nearly every game. Because they are too good and sustained easy damage is too strong.

Support main here. Yeah, I haven't really even read the patch notes so I can't give my opinion here. But I feel it's less that support doing awesome... and more that ADC is doing absolutely terrible. It just doesn't fell as rewarding to play ADC anymore.

Best change ever.

Mages (Brand Xerath Zoe Neeko) can go back to mid lane. Screw 'em.

As for supports like Sona Soraka their base mana regen should probably be adjusted (increased) a bit, especially Sona. It's actually kind of crazy how mana hungry she is.

The JigSAW1 votes

I don't even know how you play a support anymore.

No regen of any sort, no heal on spoils of war, its a joke. Its 400 gold for a glorified trinket with a few stats and gold generation hitting any AP users worst of all, especially Sona and Soraka. I guess this is the way we're pushing bot into all Pyke and Senna supports?

Illabethe1 votes

Play it. It's not that bad. I played on PBE and it was fine. You just had to play a little smarter. You get started purchasing real items earlier, which well is worth more than the lost damage/mana regen.

Keep in mind your support item is going to be a 2250G item bought for 450G, as long as you use it correctly. Just take the support item, and start building item 3070 item 3174 item 3504 etc.
