Is clustering the new strategy?

So I started playing again and I'm noticing an annoying new tendancy for nearly half the enemy team to congregate on one of the lanes, making it especially annoying for people like me who prefer single target deletion. and my team never does it for some reason, and we still win the game. so can someone explain the logic of this "tactic?"

to not have someone be picked off by an assassin or the like.

being in the general vicinity of other champions is usually a natural deterrent for engages.

It's called grouping and roaming, and I've seen this back since when I started in Season 5. Super easy to exploit if they group too early.

It just seems idiotic to leave at most one person on each other lane. leaves you wide open.

I expected to see an assassin player's bio on op.gg

the logic of this tactic is that your champion prefers single target deletion and roaming, and has an especially annoying time trying to do his melee wave-clear against a group. So by grouping on your lane and shoving you in they can take an objective without having to deal with the strengths of your champion?
