What the fuck is master yi

Flylng Dutchman··28 votes·3,577 views

Ive played a total of 20 games against master yi this season in ranked and have loset every single one and yet yi has not been nerfed. when a champion can build sated and rageblade but still 1v2 a malphite and a rammus building full armor there is a serious problem. riot like what the fuck.

wouldn't he not be the last anymore now that Wukong exists?

Ehh, I guess, although is Wuju is one certain style (with no variants), then he doesn't really do the same

he is not a samurai...

Rageblade has on-hit magic damage

Sated Devourer has on-hit magic damage

Magic damage ignores armor

Heckin Support7 votes

Don't forget the true dmg on his e.

Also Master Yi ignores attack speed slows when his ult is active And Malphite with his E can against most champions reduce their AA DPS by 50% (even more if he has Frozen Heart)

Yi is kind of like Nasus.

Leave him alone long enough, you gonna lose.

If Rammus and Malphite are stacking full armor, then of course they are going to run into issues. Sated Devourer and Guinsoo's Rageblade make Master Yi deal primarily magic damage with some physical and true damage mixed in. They need some health and MR to stand against him.

In addition, Malphite is primarily effective against AD champions due to two aspects of his kit: his passive armor increase and his attack speed slow. As previously established, Master Yi deals a significant amount of magic and true damage (lessening the effectiveness of armor) and is immune to attack speed slows while Highlander is active.

Rammus and Malphite aren't duelists anyways; they shouldn't be attempting to 1v1 him. What they should be doing is distracting the enemy team while their kill him or to CC Yi so their team can focus him down.

KillerKell1 votes

Also, no way the survives a 1v2 vs. Malphite and Rammus if both have Thornmail.

Add to the fact that a Malphite Ult chained to a Rammus Taunt on a Yi that only has Rageblade and Sated (not started building Tank yet, and Yi rushes his Damage first even in his Tank Builds) should be able to allow that Rammus Ult to kill Yi easily.

Bodkins Odds4 votes

Wait, wait, wait. Your logic doesn't follow. Sated & Rageblade both do magic damage, and Yi's built in on hit is true damage. Why would armor help? Even with Malphite &Rammus's synergies with armor, that still isn't going to defend against two forms of magic damge on-hit plus true damage.

I mean, MasterYi is clearly a little overtuned right now, but even if he were balanced you still shouldn't complain that armor isn't protecting you from Sated + Rageblade.

so you sent tanks to go fight a duelist? smooth. i havent had any problems with yi lately, then again im at the level where people understand how to peel

i havent had an issue with yi in a while... i dont feel high elo and im not. i just have not had a yi manage to get anywhere near my team without getting destroyed

How does one itemize against a master Yi? XD

It's not a matter of itemizing, it's a matter of picking a jungler that has a better early game and can snowball lanes and depending on your team to snowball to victory.

That's why Master Yi is a big problem in lower elos, but not in higher ones. Lower elos are unable to capitalize on leads to close out games faster.

inb4cowsep, there are plenty of better junglers out there at higher elos who do not pick devourer junglers such as Yi.

Anidan2 votes

Well, Yi is considered the #2 Jungler right now in Plat+.. He's strong in solo queue at the moment in general. The new Rageblade synergizes with him a good bit too well. Whether that warrants a nerf for the item (as it is also used to great affect by other champions) or Yi (since he's putting strong performance with a bruiser build) is yet to be determined, though.

Yeah... GhostintheShell specifically said "lower Elos".

Yi is banworthy for a while I have been banning him for a 2-3 weeks atm

Also Plat is considered high elo ... But I agree 99% of plats have no idea what the fk they are doing

Sona Ping1 votes

"Also Plat is considered high elo [by whom?]"

But seriously, "mid elo" and "lower elo" are terms that are available be used. And when you get people criticizing you for "being a coward" for not "dying as much as" them when you are playing ADC and not running into a 3v1 on the other side of the map... it's pretty reasonable not to call that high elo.

Ackelope1 votes

idk about everyone else, but I've always considered bronze and silver to be low, gold and plat to be mid, and diamond+ to be generally high.

By simple Math plat = 10% of best players on the world thats not that bad right?

KillerKell1 votes

Well, 10% of the Best Players in each Region.

For instance, if 9% of the Best Players in the World were Korean with 1% being a mix from other places, then the full 10% of NA Plats would NOT be part of that 10% Best in the World (and same for everywhere else).

Now 10% of a Region is still pretty good, but it is not a Balanced Scale... say 5% of Korean Plat+ Qualified for Top 10% in the World... only leaves 5% for the REST of the World to divide up, so only Half of the Korean Plat and Above would be Top 10% in the World with the rest of the World being Sub 5%.

Anidan1 votes

"That's why Master Yi is a big problem in lower elos but not in higher ones." Yi is #2 Jungler in plat+, so clearly he isn't problematic in only lower elos.

KillerKell1 votes

What's his Pick Ban in Professional Play? What's his Win Rate in Professional Play?

In fact, would be nice just to see his Pick Ban and Win Rate in Tournament Play... where everyone has Communication and generally the Teams have played together before to be solid on their Comps and Chemistry.

Yi is a Back Yard Baller, not an Organized Team Player. It's the difference between Hot Sauce playing Street Ball and Chris Paul playing in the NBA.

Generally, what most mean by Higher Elo isn't actually the Elo.. and you would be correct to correct them on that (like people that use '3rd World' and have zero clue what it means)... what they mean is in ORGANIZED PLAY Yi sucks.

If you really think the way to beat Master Yi is picking strong early gankers then you don't know how to beat Master Yi. You don't beat Yi with Elise and Lee Sin, you beat him with Shyvana and Udyr. Attempting to snowball lanes is a risky strategy and unless done extremely well it usually means a lot less than a Master Yi successfully farming for items. The only way to beat him is to shut him down and to do that you need people who can kill him early and then power farm his jungle.

Yi sn't just a low elo noobstomper by the way. He's the second best jungler in Platinum and above.

So, wait. Are you trying to tell me that if you pick Nunu into MasterYi , that he'll have a summoner 32's chance in hell of winning?

Abyssphere1 votes

So, wait. Are you trying to tell me that if you pick Nunu into MasterYi , that he'll have a summoner 32's chance in hell of winning?

Unfortunately not. Countering Yi requires you to have all of the following strengths:

  1. Strong dueling early
  2. Fast paced farming and mobility to get around the jungle
  3. Good scaling with gold and level

Nunu succeeds at #1 and #2 but fails completely at #3 and that makes the other two things completely useless. It doesn't matter if you make Yi's life hell early if he ends up solo killing you at 15 minutes and then gets access to the farm he wants so badly. Nunu in particular does badly because he is completely useless if a Yi is beside him, killing his teammates. He has no useful utility, no damage, nothing.

You need people like Shyvana because if they beat Yi early they'll continue to beat him because their gold lead will keep them ahead of him for a long time in terms of 1v1s, enabling them to continue denying him farm and win team fights because they're way more useful. Nunu falls off harder than pretty much any other champion though and will never be more useful in a team fight than even a 0/10 Yi, so ... it just doesn't work. Slowing down Yi's farm doesn't work if the exchange is being 4v5 after a certain point.

KillerKell1 votes

Except all you have to do as Nunu is:

Steal the Main Camp and land a Q on Yi while he's trying to farm it so the Monsters might actually help killing him.

The idea isn't to duel Yi, but to get him low while taking his Camp then walking out (hopefully towards your Team collapsing so if he chases he dies to the Team).

So wait for Yi to be low in Early Game to a Camp, Snowball him then Consume the Buff after it lands another big hit, then walk out. Yi loses Gold and Experience (and Stacks on Sated), falls behind and becomes useless, never to be seen again because he's power farming to catch up.

Now, you don't close out the game... he WILL catch up and you will pay for it. Which is the real issue.

BluePolarizer1 votes

Lee Sin scales surprisingly well with gold. Lee Sin can stay in Yi's jungle for a long time and kill him whenever his kick is off cooldown. A Yi with 5000 gold (item 1415 item 1026 item 1037 ) is no match for a Lee with a small lead of 800 gold (item 1408 item 3047 item 3077item 1028 ) which happens if Lee kills Yi once, takes 2 camps in the time he's gone and then ganks a lane.

Late game, a Yi with 10000 gold item 3931 item 3047 item 3124item 3053 item 3155 is still no match for a snowballed Lee with 13000 gold item 1408 item 3742 item 3748 item 3047item 3071 in the context of a teamfight.

Ozag the Mighty1 votes

Jax..volli...MAYBEY J4...Lee sin...eleise? These 5 I know can start ganks at 2 or 3 Yi normally waits till 6 best you can do is take his jungle spawns and stop his farm, at least slow it down.

If you can keep his camps down he's not building as fast, but as soon as he gets lvl 6 and stated it's time to be way more cautious of him.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

lol. you can't actually win a fight building tank. or actually 1v1 any of these rageblade devoure champion. you just have to pick an another. rageblade devoure champion to beat an another. rageblade devoure champion. broken mechanics. mele ad carrys are basically adcs that are in melee range but do as much damage while building half tank. because of their high base stats

KillerKell1 votes

Teemo and Quinn still crap on a Tank Yi, or any Yi, by playing it smart under Turret and having a nice Blind.

You just have to induce the Yi to dive turret. Which isn't hard, they picked a Yi to try to Kill... a Turret usually won't deter them.

You just said it yourself... He beat 1v2 a malph and a rammus building full armor when he had item 3931 and item 3124 ..... Hm.... He does MAGIC DAMAGE with that build and also does TRUE DAMAGE with his E... There you have it, they build the wrong defensive stats.

WadeWilson13372 votes

Yi can fight those champions because his damage isnt soloely AD. He also does quite a bit of magic damage and true damage, making him difficult to itemize against which i honestly dont see as an issue. I believe his base damages need to be nerfed so he has to go glass cannon again.

I think it's itemization, Fiora has the same problem with bruiser items being a little too strong.

WadeWilson13371 votes

the difference is that Fiora has %max hp true damage. You literally cant itemize against her, even if you build full tank she still does a massive amount of damage to you, negating whatever items you bought. Yi on the other hand you just have to factor his damage being so mixed you cant just stack armor like usual and build a thornmail and watch him kill himself.

Glass cannon fiora isn't a problem, if you build fulltank fiora you won't have bonus ad (which is all her passive scales off) which means you'll only be doing 3%. The typical bruiser build brings it up to about 7.5% at lvl 18 if memory serves me. Fiora mostly benefits from Titanic's on-hit being so strong. The biggest part of her damage in her current setup is her physical damage, not her true damage. Especially against squishies*

*For the typical build I used the most common build as outlined here: http://champion.gg/champion/Fiora/Top

WadeWilson13371 votes

I mean the champion going against her cant build tanky. When you lose lane against a carry laner like Fiora usually you just rush sunfire cape instead of black cleaver or something similar. She does %hp true damage, so she will still kill you if you do that, the difference is you just wont be able to do any damage back.

Her damage won't be nearly as high unless you're purposely feeding her vitals.

Easy to learn.

Now, difficult to MASTER. Say, at a Cowsep level.

Unstoppable Monk1 votes

You don't counter MasterYi with a champion that does no damage.

You hit him with so much damage in one rotation that he's dead.

You can literally win games watching a crappy Yi steal all the farm and kills from the enemy team and then just dumpstering him for the win because everyone else on their team is starved.

I agree. As easy as it is to shut yi down with hard cc. Sometimes your teammates are completely unaware of how to play against a yi. He and a few other champs or items need some nerfing. I wish there was a way to create a balanced game... oh, wait... there is... riot just cares about the money and lcs players tho. not the community
