Current Preseason Champion Insights

Instead of posting one thread at a time I thought why not just put all of my current thoughts about the champions in the preseason into one discussion. At this time the preseason is actually decently balanced with only a couple major outliers and some borderline OP champs. Also TL;DR are at the top in case you don’t feel like reading. There is also a small section on vison at the end.

Disclaimer: These are all opinions and you may disagree with me, that’s fine

Champions

  • Illaoi TL;DR - Power needs to taken from her ultimate and she needs more reliable damage.

  • Tahm Kench TL;DR - Needs to be less sticky and fix Q animation

  • Soraka TL;DR - Tone down the heals or make them cost more health. Oh and while we are on Raka increase the tick rate of her E.

  • Ezreal TL;DR - Marksman update focused on crit and ez is not a fan of crit.

  • Vayne TL;DR - Needs to work for the true damage.

  • Yasuo TL;DR - Replace his double crit passive.

  • Lee Sin TL;DR - Lower some scalings on his Q or ultimate.

  • Sona TL;DR - Sona needs to fit her thematic better.

  • Akali TL;DR - Needs to fit her thematic better.

Illaoi
I’m going to preface this by saying Illaoi not overpowered but instead completely imbalanced. Illaoi is currently the most frustrating champion to play against since her balancing was done in such a bad way. She has loads of counterplay by having 3 easily dodgeable abilities and being able to kill the tentacles around her, which is bad because against a competent player she won’t be able to land almost anything. However when she casts her ultimate all of the counterplay disappears and that’s the main issue. The tentacles can’t be hit and dodging them is almost impossible since they swing faster. Now most people just say run away after she ults but in my experience you die before being able to leave. As an example I was playing Kha in top(yes i know thats not very good right now) and she took me for about 800 before i could even leap out. In summary, Illaoi needs to be better without her ultimate and worse when she uses it.

TahmKench I don’t need to spend much time on this because Tahm has some pretty obvious issues. First off, thin out his Q and make the animation match the hitbox. This is huge problem because the skillshot is nearly impossible to miss (it’s harder to miss a Lux E imo). And once the the Q lands it’s pretty much a death sentence if you don’t have backup since he will just waddle up and eat you after a couple autos. The low CD on his Q and W late game make him impossible to run from since the stacks don’t get consumed by Devour. Overall Tahm is just too sticky for his current damage.

Soraka This is even easier than Tahm, just tone the heals down because grievous wounds was keeping her in check, but now she is just awful to play against since you know you won’t be able to even have a fight with her in it unless you blow her up at the start. A minor buff that should have been implemented a long time ago is a faster tick rate for her E. It just makes the ability not act like it should, since people can just jump out after zhonyas.

Ezreal Ez has always been one of the few marksman who never built IE and preferred a non-crit build, but since the marksman update just threw more crit everywhere and lowered the AD on the items Ez pretty much got left in the dust.

Vayne Vayne needs some sort of mechanic to proc her W besides auto three times. Maybe implement something similar to Fiora’s marks, but make it to where vayne needs to attack 3 different spots on a person to get the true damage. The reason for this change is even if vayne is super behind she can rip through a fed tank, and that is just bad for gameplay. A champion should be punished for being behind but since all vayne needs is some AS it’s hard to stop her destroying the front line. (yes i realize that if not implemented currently this could gut vayne and it needs some tweaking)

LeeSin Lee has always been meta and probably won’t ever leave but right now he just feels unfair to play against since his scaling are so high. Once he gets ahead he just outright assassinates people with one damage item. Lowering the scalings and maybe adding more base damage to Q should alleviate the pain of an ahead lee sin.

Yasuo The main problem with yasuo is his feast or famine nature since when he is ahead his passive makes him even more ahead. And when Yasuo is behind he is really behind.

Sona Sona is a glorified poke mage in bot and not much more at this point. She needs to be reworked and given some more meaningful powerchords maybe. I’m not sure what exactly needs to be done to Sona, but she needs more utility and less poke. Sona has always had a cool theme with a really underwhelming kit.

Akali When i see akali’s kit it makes me think she should be a hybrid ninja, but right now just builds full ap and gunblade for some extra spellvamp. She needs to be reworked in a true hybrid champion that feels more fulfilling to play as and against.

Vison - Vison is super weird with the removal of green wards. A few suggestions to make things easier: Extra slot for pink ward (need easy access to oracles for those pesky invis champs), make an upgrade for the yellow trinket to be more efficient, also stop nerfing the blue trinket (it is only strong because the yellow trinket sucks late)

You made it to the bottom! Hopefully Riot actually looks at this because i really think some of these suggestions could make the game better. Also if I made a mistake or if you want my opinion on a champion not listed above then just say so in the comments and i can make edits.
