Quality of life change: Mandatory default smite for jungle roles

I think it would be great if Riot could please make it default that jungle role should automatically get smite as a summoner spell once they go into champion select. I personally hate it when I accidentally get filled jungle and forget to bring smite, ultimately making me feel extremely guilty for throwing the game or having to take a leaver to allow a remake. Or vice versa for other people in my games who forget smite from time to time whether its going to take a quick restroom break or getting water before game. It would just be an immense quality of life change for future games.

Never again will I win a game because of the lead I got fom early first blood on the enemy Kindred when I took Ignite by mistake instead of Smite, and she tried to invade me.

...and yet I'm oddly okay with this. :D

Idea: no need to role swap if you just only force one smite per team at least, defaulting to only jungle having it.

If they want to trade, the new jg can take smite, which would enable the jungler to remove it.

Bad idea. Laners using Smite isn't common, but builds exist, and they exist for a reason. Chunking diversity by forcing one and only one Smite on a team is a step backward.

Just that Jungler automatically default to it.

He said force one at least, so that you can't run a smiteless comp. That said, if people really want to play without smite for whatever reason then that's their decision so rather than force it just having it set by default should be enough.

Wrong. Role swapping needs to exist so supports won't have their gold income items poached and nerfed to hell by other roles and lanes. If role swapping exists, you can bind the gold income items to the Support role, and save yourself years and years of balancing headaches because you don't have to worry about the Yi/Taric funnel strategy, or Nasus/Jhin running Relic Shield, or Evelynn running Frost Queen's Claim.

I'm so glad Riot overrode the stupidity of this argument. For too long dopey forum posters, just looking to win a fight to validate their ego, have held up countless games and have lost LP on their hands because they stood against this obviously logical change.

At no point in either the OP or the red post did anyone say forced. Your reading comprehension is low, like 3rd grade low. Its says "automatically get" not "force to take." I automatically get what I had last game, that doesn't mean I'm stuck with it.

People can win all the fights on the boards, and get all the upvotes their cold, dead heart desires, but your arguments are still bad, you lack a reasonable amount of logic, and you have no sense for problem solving. This is an amazing change, regardless of what the perpetually aggrieved think and I for one welcome a return to just having a jungler who is clueless, not smiteless.

Another improvement would be to match rank at positions instead of team. Wait that would improve the game too. NO more silver top vs a diamond.

Instead riot should just be sexist then punish there fan base because of the sexist action they did. That should improve moral of fans.

Or at least have a popup when put as jungle where after you lock in your champ it ask if you wish to take smite should you not have it already.

I typically don't post but I'll make an exception here because this concerns me and my 5 stack.

Usually we'll all agree as a team to hit "fill" and we usually stick to our assigned roles. In some instances we'll decide to swap things around because "Joe Shmoe doesn't want to jungle this game" so we swap our roles around meaning the person assigned as jungler is no longer jungling. This also applies to people who are autofilled and ask their team to switch roles, now their team can't swap even if they want to.

How is Riot going to address these issues?

An excellent notion. Can I suggest it goes in the slot said player usually uses for smite? Most have a preference and it isn't hard to find. With luck most of us will notice it, but given the number that don't at present (lost a game this week with a TP ammumu jg).

I'm late to the party so hopefully this doesn't get buried---

It would be awesome if you guys do this but please please please somehow make it customizable or flexible as to which summoner slot it goes into. As someone who mains jungle but frequently plays other roles with other summs, I would hate to pop into champ select and suddenly be rocking TP + Smite because it wound up automatically putting Smite on the F key for some reason (which is absurd because F is for Flash and D is for Dmite). Obviously changing this then wouldn't be hard, it would just be annoying and defeat the purpose of the QOL change.

Maybe make it never replace flash?

I'm sure you guys have thought of this, i just wanted to get it out there

Auto change sure.

Forcing people to take smite Absolutely no Jungle sucked before because half the time you are matched with scrubs in low elo.

But now it sucks even harder for someone who may choose to use an off meta because late game Smite maybe useless compared to Exhaust, or something else "Junglers should have the option to change later in the game after 15 or 20 minutes if they want.

Smite IMO one of the worst skills in game later game.

My issue with that is this feature is currently on Nexus Blitz. As it stands now, junglers are permanently locked into that role whether or not your filled into it. So let's say you did fill into Jungler, you will have smite automatically selected as one of your two summoner spells. Let's say you wanted to trade roles with a Laner. You can't because you cannot select another summoner spell in place of Smite as well as the Laner cannot select smite as one of their summoner spells. So Riot will need to be able to give players the option to trade roles.

The auto select Smite feature is great but it currently comes at a cost of not ever being able to trade out of the role.

Nexus blitz forces it because they designed the jungle to be a double jungle and want to get that message accross during the alpha. Its unlikely to be enforced on release.

Above all, I understand people forget to bring smite and its completely not their fault. But I have to disagree that they are forced to take smite. Rather, I think it would be a simple good small tooltip on the side saying, "No smite selected! You might have a difficult time playing Jungle if you do not bring smite!" or something along those lines that warn the player that they have not chosen smite. Feel free to argue against my idea, but I really am against forcing people to pick smite or not. A summoner spell is a summoner spell, let people pick what they want to pick. Fizz
