The most terrible ranked sytem in history of League

Okay so I get the idea of adding something new to the game by dividing the ranked ladder into parts and I have no problem with it so far. The problem most people strugling with is the match making, which you couldn't fix in 10 years!! For example: why do I get two silver 3 team mates in my gold 3 promos?? Basically taking away any chance to climb further because of their lack of knownedge and skill. Same in higher divisions! Same problem over the years and yet you don't even try to fix it or make it any better.

I will upvotes every "matchmaking is broken" thread until they realize how unbalanced and unplayable this shit is atm!

I can't remember to have unranked players in my ranked games in earlier seasons. Now I have at least 2-3 unranked players in every of my games. Mostly in one team. And this team usually loses at the end.

No one asked for this system. Riot please just revert to one rank

I'm only silver 2-3. and i'm already having Bronze 4's in my games. Like wtf man. I know I'm just starting to climb the ladder, but it's basically a PVE bot game. And a coin flip of "who has the most bots."

Yes, I'm legit saying who has the "MOST" bots, because there is 100% one bot in game.

Lord Scorch 621 votes

hard stuck silver top/jung.

coin flip is the best why i can put it.

Even if we don't have role dependent matchmaking in EUW yet, I guess that would be no problem if the teams were balanced. The problem are these weird unbalanced teams after 15 seconds in queue.

Wtf Rito... Why you invite me after 15 seconds if the only thing you could find in this time are some unranked dudes on losing streak? I have no problem with waiting for 1 or 2 minutes. Hell I would even wait 5 minutes for good balanced games.

Plat HardstuckXD6 votes

I don't mind the positional ranks but getting silver players in a Plat game is infuriating because the skill level is massive. Its pretty much a gaurenteed auto lose when you get a silver player on your team.

Idk I kinda like the new ranked system as I can work at improving in each role at my own pace.

I find the rank complaint kinda funny as the reason they are playing in your game is because there mmr is similar to yours. In reality I feel people like to deflect blame when they lose to make themselve feel better .

I mean I can look through my own match history and even the OP match history and you can find games where the lowest ranking individual ( sometimes even unranked ) performed the best in that game. But generally you aren’t gonna BM or even look into what rank they are if they carry you.

If you consistently play well you will climb.

BigFBear2 votes

I don't know the new system where you get ranked dependent on your role since it's not active yet in EUW. But what changed since start of season is the way how teams get mixed together. It's way worse than season 8 and preseason. I don't know what they changed. But it seems they have changed the algorithm. It's horrible atm.

Mullaous3 votes

The system def doesn't give a fk about whether the people have similar mmr's... I had a previous silver unranked player in my gold 3 promos when I was getting 30 lp a game because of high w/r. Whether or not playing well consistently will enable you to climb is irrelevant to the matchmaking complaints...

Also how can you tell how well the low elo players on OP matches performed by looking at match history? If their problem was lack of knowledge, silvers can pull off some completely pointless playstyles that get them good KDA's.

mack91123 votes

The entire system is based on your mmr that is the point of matchmaking. If you are gettIng matches consistently with people below your rank then you are performing poorly and the system is tryIng to adjust. As well visa versa if you are performing above average then the system will match you with people above you.

Simple example of when I was in silver if I saw a player with a plat border I know they are probably going to perform poorly as there mmr has sunk to my level.

I can barely think of games that I lost in which I was not a contributer to the loss. We all play a part in this team game. We all make bad plays or position poorly or communicate bad and to blame others is generally just an attempt at deflection.

Personally I used to be like that always trying to externalize my problems but once I recognized my own mistakes and began to correct them I saw myself beginning to climb.

Mullaous5 votes

What the fuck... there is so much non-sensical rambling in this. What are you even talking about?

I just gave you an example of getting people in a game who have never even been in the elo they are playing with, and aren't placed because they haven't even started playing this season, and you start talking about "playing poorly". I JUST told you I was a 70% win rate in gold, obviously I can hard carry golds so why would I randomly get a non-ranked, never been gold player in a game where other people in that same game are plat?

That other guy was right lol, you're just all about some mental gymnastics trying to make this shit make sense.

mack91123 votes

Because the system does work in your own match history you have a silver one player performing better than a plat.

You have a 70% gold jungle winrate while your other roles are bronze. The position system is doIng it’s job.

Mullaous5 votes

Haha wtf, why would you bring up my other positions? What relevance would they, or should they have on my matchmaking when q'd in my main role? Roles you aren't playing rank up incredibly slowly when ur not playing them and this is a new account so ofc they are bronze.

Ur somethin else man lol. Does riot pay you or... wtf is goin on with u? XD Ur not even putting in an effort to making ur refutes make sense.

mack91121 votes

But it shows the system works .

I'll use myself as an example , my jungle and mid are a high gold/plat level while my support is a low gold. The new system allows me to be pitted against people of equal skill level while playing support so I have an opportunity to improve instead of being stomped by supports who are clearly better than me.

I truly feel I have presented solid arguments while you have stuck your fingers in your ears and said ' everything sucks your wrong ' while presenting no evidance.

Lord Scorch 621 votes

i am a silver player getting party up'd with irons and low bronze in the games i lose, and getting party up'd with golds in games i win.

the system does not work. it has NEVER really worked. it does not matter how well you play when the odds are stacked too one side every game.

at that point it is not about skill, or out-play. it is a coin flip.

this kind of system makes climbing next to impossible, and it is hitting plat and lower elos the hardest.

mack91122 votes

You just have to sit down and try your hardest trust me I have done it. You can carry most games.

Imma be devils advocate here too but in your last 10 ranked matches there has been zero gold players

Skill isn't static from lane to lane. Would you want a master mid laner as an opponent if they were playing adc? They are not going to suddenly play like someone in gold.

mack91122 votes

Your skill greatly from role to role absolutely but I dont think you will see masters in silver games lol

Kattzy1 votes

idk why you are getting so many downvotes when you actually understand the system and the difference between rank (e.g, gold/plat/etc.) and elo (Riot's behind-the-scenes calculation of your actual skill level). You are totally correct that the matchmaking system does its best to match people of the same elo regardless of rank.

People will always try and point the blame at factors that are not them self.

It can’t be that I performed poorly in this gold 3 match it must be the silver ones fault and by extension the matchmaking system.... when in reality the silver 1 player is performing just as well ( or better ) as you are and your team is just cordinating poorly.

You are matched with close enough skilled players that if you deserve to climb through your own skill you will.

Except personal skill is such a small part of it. For my last 11 games or so, in 7 of them I've performed better than the rest of my team. I've won lane, ended positive in kills, warded regularly, show up to help my team, and focus objectives. I've lost 10 of those 11 games because in most, 2+ lanes feed. I wouldn't be complaining if matches were CLOSE, but most games have had my team going 10+ deaths deep 15 min in, people start trolling, or late game members of the team don't know when to properly engage, group, rotate, and overall have little knowledge of macro game, so they make obvious mistakes and throw. Skill matters, but waaaaay less than you think. I'm not saying I'm perfect or every team I'm on sucks, but I have zero faith in matchmaking considering the strings of teams I've had on a regular basis.

So my questions is, why am I being matched with these teams if I'm consistently performing better than at least 3 team members on a regular basis? Wouldn't it make sense to have a ranked system where actual performance is taken in to account and not just win/loss?

mack91121 votes

Come on dude if you are telling me that your team is what is preventing you from climbing then you got another thing coming. l

Lets really break down your last 10 games

(w) 6/4/7 pyke support - Your bronze 1 mid laner hard carried that match

(L) 1/3/0 garen top - you lost lane

(w) 6/11/10 Jacx top - your silver 2 mid laner carried

(L) 7/6/10 mf bot - you lost lane (your leo was bad) equal damage with ezreal

(L) 4/3/9 ez bot - Enemy top laner carried harder than you

(L) 12/6/7 trist bot - enemy top laner carried harder

(L) 0/5/2 trundle jungle - there jungler better

(L) 7/10/19 brand bot - looks like a throw tbh

(L) 1/3/1 tahm support - lost lane

This is not bm dude but if you want to climb those are not the scores you want . You want to be stomping your lane and out damaging your lane opponent but in almost every match you go even with your lane opponent.

Think about it this way if you are playing against someone of equal rank in lane and cannot beat them then why would you deserve to climb ? The game is ultimately about who can carry harder and if you cant then you wont win sadly.

As for the rank differences it shows in your own match history that you have players so different in rank still out performing each other.

Focus on yourself and how you can improve that is the only way to get anywhere in this game

If you look at ACE OP I'm top or 2nd on my team in most of the matches I was talking about. Bringing up how the other team performs and how my laners were bad really helps my point. The teams I play against have laners that consistently do way better than their opponents across most lanes while I manage to go even or get ahead. Obviously the final scores are not the scores I want, but when my team feeds hard and early, my score is going to suffer as a result. And again, first game tonight, I'm bot lane we do well, but every other lane died 3-4 times in under 10 minutes, total of 18 deaths in 15 min. A good matchmaking system would not have skill differences that severe across a team even half the time, let alone the %70 I'm getting right now.

But my main point was that I'm consistently playing better than at least 3 people on my teams, so why am I being matched with them?

Matchmaking is flawed as it stands right now, and other people have the exact same experience.

mack91121 votes

You still do not get it dude if you want to climb you have be winning lane and doIng most damage. It doesn’t matter how good or bad my team mates do because I am going to be the one carryIng the game.

You can blame every other factor you want but your personal performance is the ultimate defining factor in any game.

You own match history shows you are not contributing anywhere close to carry levels of damage and you are not consistently winning your lanes So why should you climb.

mack91121 votes

I’m not dodging the question dude I have presented a answer you do not like.

Your own game history shows you are performing at a same level or in many instances worse than your teammates.

Your damage levels , kdas and Cs scores show it.

You're cherry picking stats from 3 of 15 games to try and support your point and still totally missing mine.

If my entire team gives up on average a kill a minute for the first 15 minutes, and I'm 0 to 1 of those deaths and winning or going even in lane, why am I being matched with them 70% of the time.

mack91121 votes

Not everyone else in the game. People on my team. And taking a select few games where I didn't and claiming that as most instances is the definition of cherry picking stats.

Your matches are the same story dude there is not a single match where you did most damage on your team in the last 10 games

Damage isn't the only thing that matters, especially when the people doing most damage are racking up double digit deaths and gettting that damage trying to 1v5 :/

mack91121 votes

If your damage is low then you are not trading in lane correctly and not positioning correctly to last long enough to do any damage

Effram1 votes

Except when you actually look at the numbers I'm typically top 1 or 2 damage, and players with more damage typically have more deaths, which is exactly my point. Again, cherry picking.

Took your advice and picked a champ I can hard carry with. Guess what: after consistently stomping early/mid game by a wide margin, I still get matched with people well below my own skill who get stomped in lane, like to throw massive leads by making terrible choices, or legit just troll and force a loss.

Matchmaking is broken.

mack91121 votes

It really sounds like you just expect your team to suck and you probably express that attitude in game which in my opinion is going to contribute to your losses.

Your opposing team has players who played very poorly too but there team probably worked better together. As well volibear auto wins early and mid game just due to his kit. With your lead you have you should be able to close games by just split pushing. I would suggest playIng udyr instead.

My Voli games I had chat turned off. Didn't chat at all except to ask why the ADC was intentionally throwing and and try to politely convince that person to try so we can win. Neeko games we were winning early and chat was positive.

When the opposing team does poorly because I create early leads (some of them massive), and my teams can't play well enough to maintain that lead, it demonstrates my point. Saying "play Udyr" doesn't negate the fact matchmaking is atrocious right now.

Same situation playing a string of Neeko games: helping all lanes, farming well, gifting kills, drive my team to a strong early lead. Mid-late game my team gets outclassed by a wide margin on a mechanics and macro level, and make some really bronze level mistakes. Not that I don't make mistakes, but I stopped roaming around the enemy jn trying to 1v5 when I was in bronze, know what a good baron call looks like, know not to overextend when my team doesn't have map control, etc etc; it's stuff you should know in gold.

Last year losses typically happened because my team was good and the enemy team was better. Way more hard faught matches that made the game exciting and challenging. This year a large majority of my games aren't even close, win or loss. Even in placement games this year I think I had a %60-%70 win ratio across all lanes. As soon as placements finish, everything went to hell. I've heard it's likely because people are autofilled and don't care if they take a loss because of positional ranks, which makes sense to me based off my experience over the last month. Once positional ranks are rolled back I would bet things improve. Until that happens, ranked is a terrible way to play League.

mack91122 votes

Your performance will matter to a degree in which if you can play your role perfect every time you will climb.

Lord Scorch 621 votes

no, i have been playing for 7 years. been playing ranked for 3.

consistency does not give a flying fuck if you want to climb, or if you even won lane.

if your ADC is iron 1 and the enemy ADC is silver 3, kiss this sweet match good-bye and go next.

the main problem that most players have right now WITH ranked is the very fact that consistency does not matter. that is why "hard-stuck in X elo" is a thing in the first place, and is even worse now.

mack91122 votes

I can’t really agree I have been playing ranked since 2013 and last year I truly recognized my problems in how I play and climbed my hard stuck silver account up to plat 1.

There are always things you could have done differently to get the win.

Lord Scorch 621 votes

but that was last year.

i understand, and you make a solid point. but right now, there is NO hard motivation for players to play at their best if they are playing any role other then the one they care about the most.

the players that suffer the most from a loss are the players in their main roles, everyone else can take the hit.

mack91122 votes

idk i try my hardest in every role.. its all mindset i suppose every game is an opportunity to improve so why not try your hardest.

Lord Scorch 621 votes

there is no way that every player has that mind set, i have seen more players then not int when they asked for a role swap and got rejected. folks that get auto-filled int because it really does not matter too them, even if they lose LP due too the new splash system, they will never drop down a rank from it.

you have too understand that the main problem with ranked right now is that lower elos (plat and lower) are getting shafted by this new system, and it only gets worse the lower elo you are.

i'll put this in perspective; lets say you are in a game, you are plat, and 2 of your teammates are plat. but your bot lane are low bronze/iron.

the enemy team has a team of high golds/plats.

what are your odds of winning?

this is what is happening in almost every game in plat and lower.

this used too be a problem in SUPER high elos because the odds of the system finding 10 challenger players who are all Q'd up is next to impossible. the fact that the system is doing this too players in the LARGEST elo base (silver-plat) is nuts, and something that NEEDS too be addressed and looked too.

anyway, sorry for the wall of text.

mack91123 votes

I understand that my man but i dont see that kinda of rank difference in my matches and neither do i see that in your matchmaking.

I dont understand why you would not try your hardest in every match . If you are playing a video game you are trying to win.
