Am I too dumb to climb?
I have over 2k games of ranked counting this + the previous season. It took me 2k games to get from Silver II to plat V. Reading some people's stories about their climb, it feels like they were able to climb from silver to diamond just within few hundreds of games, while I don't get the game overall. It feels like I have something wrong with my mindset that just keeps me from grasping the game. It looks like I can't get the grasp on macro at all. I've watched challenger players, read some threads, watched coaching sessions. Played and tried to watch my replays. The only thing I'm capable of is saying when and where I did a misstep, where I lost a trade and where I missed free dmg, talking about early game. I'm capable of watching the map, watching out for ganks and not overextending when the position of enemy jungler is unknown while mine is top.
Most of the times, I feel like I can recognize the threat and fall back if necessary and also know the winning condition, for example my Thresh gets a hook off on the enemy adc or when I manage to dodge/flash some important skillshot, like Nami Q while my support lands everything etc. I know about the level 2 advantage, minion advantage, wave manipulation, to keep track of which champs and which part of their kit can kill me in teamfights, what to watch out for. I have managed to keep the average amount of deaths a game to 6.
And that is basically all I'm capable of grasping. I do many small mistakes in early game and I recognize that. Sometimes a bad trade, sometimes being too passive, sometimes losing 2v2 fight because I make a wrong prediction of the damage enemy can dash out. I believe I can get better at those things. But it feels like the game is not about this at all. I can play another hundreds of games on the same champion and get a truly decent mechanics. But what are they worth? I've been trying to hone my mechanics and knowledge the whole time. But it all just seems worthless. It feels like the game is all about the macro which I don't get even in the smallest. How do I know where to go, when to go there and why to go there? When do I really not want to die and when , even if I die, it does not matter? How do I know when we want to fight, when we want to splitpush etc. It just feels like there are so many options of what I can do. I have a huge impact on the game, but I have just no idea what I need to do in order to make sure that the game is moving towards our win-conditions.
I climbed out of Gold when I just started ignoring most of the fights mid game, pushing as many lanes as possible to make them bounce back, taking jungle camps since no one cared about them and getting as much gold income as possible. Usually, I ended up 100 or 200 cs ahead of the enemy adc who just grouped with his team most of the time, because I realized how bad people were at forcing favorable teamfights. With this, I started getting massive leads and ended up climbing about 3 divisions up to Plat V. But the understanding of macro seems to become even a bigger issue than before. I thought I just need to keep pushing and I'll essentially get at least to diamond, but 2k games and I got to Plat V. I've started questioning my intelligence and capabilities of learning the game. You could argue I play inconsistently looking at my last 50-100 games with both my deaths and the champions. That is true, but I believe there were times when I was consistent and it did not seem to change anything at all. And I'm not sure what to really do anymore at this point. I want to get better, but I don't know how.
