If you get tilted playing Normals first, maybe it'd be best to not get into a Ranked match. If you play a great match and are on top of your game I'd say that's a good time to go stomp some Ranked matches, but basing it off random players that are in a different mode who you won't play with again is silly.

Focusing on one champion to master it is indeed probably the best way to climb, but you need to master some alternatives for when you can't get it. I recommend finding a real meta jungler, support, and another top laner or two. Darius and Irelia might be great options for you in top lane, and there are tons of junglers and supports to choose from that could fit your style.
