More IP after LVL30

Semmaka··327 votes·9,882 views

(First of all not sure if this is the right place to post this but it seemed most relevant. )

After a game of league, before LVL30, you get IP and XP. After LVL30 you lose half of those rewards, because you gain the same amount of IP but no XP. What if after LVL30 the XP you would have gotten is added to the IP you gain? It might mean some people get to buy runes/rune pages faster possibly allowing them to play more roles rather than 2 at any given time. It might not be the best argument for the cause but I still think it would be a good idea to add the XP to the IP.What do you think? Pros/Cons? For/Against?

Discuss

(edit) I explained this is a reply to a comment but I think it's a good enough point to put upfront: "What I think would be nice, is for players that just got to LVL30, who might have the 2 rune pages filled out and some champs, to experiment more by getting new champs/runes/rune pages faster now that they have some idea about the game and what they want out of it."

The IP gain system is this game is way too slow we need this.

Ah, but Rito wants us to spend RP, so they make it annoyingly slow so that we must either play tons, creating a dedicated player, or spend money on the game. It's a win-win for them.

Bârd8 votes

To be fair, their system of "Pay to look pretty" and "Pay 5$ to skip a week of grinding" lets them keep the game free to play.

Wont stop me from spending every penny I get to make my gems more outrageous.

But you can't buy skins (pay to look pretty) with Ip and it doesn't cost riot anything to generate more IP or sell a champion or runes from the shop.

Arbuzee1 votes

No it's completely free for them, they could give everyone all the champs and every rune and unlimited runepages, they wouldn't lose a penny. you know what they would lose? Potential profit. Something every company wants to increase to the maximum as long as no dramatic consequences are the outcome.

I've found a good balance in buying skins with rp and champs with ip.

In most games I've played, decent champ mechanics and an adequate item build are far more valuable than specialized rune pages too.

Runes can be impotant, but they're not that critical unless people play well.

If I could get people to use their trinkets and ward objectives, I might consider mediocre rune setups to be a problem.

And yet nothing is going to happen. Any increase in IP collection will translate to a massive drop in RP purchases, and therefore a massive drop in profits for Riot.

A suggestion they're more likely to listen to is making a dozen champions perma-free. Like, take a bunch of low IP cost champions and make them free, namely:

Alistar Tristana Warwick Nunu Annie Ryze Garen Soraka Ashe Dr Mundo Amumu Nasus

These are all relatively cheap and there's at list two champions in each position.

I think getting more IP for everyone would be a great idea. All riot has to do is make easier to mass produce things like icons or chroma packs cost IP for an IP sink for people that already own all the champions.

I understand Riot is a business but it is time to give back more "free stuff" (IP gotten for playing the game so still not free) to the community.

When Riot's business model relied heavily on people that were impatient and wanted the champs without spending the time it made sense to have such low IP gains. But league has evolved from that. Now there are millions of people that play this game, an ever increasing amount of skins available for purchase, and even tickets to buy to go to LCS tournaments and Worlds. League is wildly popular and Riot will continue to make ****loads of money just by releasing a few skins.

If Riot's excuse of not increasing IP gains for an ever increasing champion pool is because they won't make enough money, then they are greedier than I would have ever expected.

I do not think Riot is that greedy, I believe they are trying to make the game to it's fullest potential and still get paid along the way. This will still happen if they increase IP gains.

Please Riot, the grinding experience needs some love.

Many people can't play 1-5 champs well. What would they possibly do with 100 champs?

I'm not against more IP, but it's not a good business decision and it won't improve players' abilities. Doesn't seem to be a reason to implement this change other than people want more stuff for less.

If I used that logic to ask for more resources at work, I'd get laughed out of the room.

They aren't.

You don't get more runes, you don't get more champions,so you don't get exp and mastery points,so what?

I'm all for more ip,especially for new players who lack content, but giving it instead to older players is plain dumb.

Daedalus8712 votes

New players get IP and XP. Level 30's get the same IP but no XP.

Thus new players are getting more from each game than level 30's, and equivalently level 30's are getting less than new players.

Although, the point would be moot if we had decent IP gain.

Except that this exp isn't content,so you get a bunch of stats through runes and masteries, hell, now you need to start spending points on runes, that makes it even worse.

Contest wise new players get as much as old ones,if anything make ip gains larger for new players,so that they will have something to start with, maybe give them some every level up.

Thing is, you must get to at least level 20, have enough IP to pay 410 for the rune, even though at this point, you have nearly no considerable champions to speak of unless you put your own cash money into the game, AND you also have to determine what role and kind of champion you will use before setting up a rune page, for example, I got my full AD rune page about a month ago, I am just now starting to get my AP rune page cause I don't play anywhere near as much AP as AD.

There is just way too much you require IP for, more so as you climb levels. Not even considering the fact that rune pages themselves cost a fortune, on the hand of runes, by the time you buy a new rune page and fill it with all new runes, you are dishing out almost 20k ip, if not more than that. While on the other hand, Champions are really important as you will want to find that ONE champion to main, your "bae" as hardcore fans refer to their own favorite champion, more often than not, its gonna be a 4800 or 6300 champion: Riven, Irelia, Jayce, Yasuo, Zed, Darius, etc.

I just feel like spending YEARS trying to get what you desire is overboard.

I totally agree, that's why people need more ip prior to level 30 more than anything.

you are right that Ip gains are low overall, and that you should give bigger ip gains to everyone, but this thread is about specifically not giving them to those who need it most, and that's just stupid.

Semmaka1 votes

I was thinking this would be a solution for people who just hit 30. Some could make the argument that you do not need spend IP until 20, at which point the IP saved would be more or less enough to fully kit 1-2 champs in 1-2 roles with full rune pages. But once you hit 30 it will accelerate the progression a bit. It will help newer players because the ones that have been 30 for a while already have enough IP just gathering dust, to them some 60 IP more is nothing, to a newer player it's something.

That's utter bullshit. You need champions, and the moment you hit 20 you also needs runes,it's not even gradual,20->need 2/3 of a rune page.

No,it won't,you want to be able to build a small roster and some setups for it(i.e runepages) as you hit level 30,this is the very opposite of helping new players, you are intentionally making a mechanic which will give them nothing before they are 30,that's moronic.

Semmaka1 votes

You can get 2 full pages and two champions for two different roles before 30. The question after is do you put the IP in new runes, a new page or a new champion for a new role. You need all of those to do it properly and this endeavour will most likely take you past LVL30 when the boost I propose might be useful. Also as a new player before LVL20 you can do just as well with the free rotation that week trying to see what champions you like and in what role, that is why I say you can do without spending IP until 20 especially since you cannot buy tier 3 runes in advance before 20.

Considering level 30 requires about 300 games, that's pretty much nothing,I mean two champions, come on(let's face it,the fun ones are generally not the 450 ip ones,so it really is about 2 champions+2 rune pages).

The question after is do you put the IP in new runes, a new page or a new champion for a new role. You need all of those to do it properly and this endeavour will most likely take you past LVL30 when the boost I propose might be useful.

Here's the thing though: YOU NEED THIS EXTRA IP WAY BEFORE LEVEL 30. Again,I'm all for more ip,but placing it purposefuly after 30 is just stupid, giving more ip in general is better, giving more ip in the earlier levels is also better, this is by far the worst option of the three.

If you have never played this sort of game before: maybe. Otherwise, you know which champions you have interest in and would like to try out,but those champions most likely won't be in the rotation,so that really doesn't work.

I swear it's like you're not even paying attention.

This boost kicks in RIGHT WHEN YOU HIT 30. Which is still in a place where you're going to NEED that extra IP. The reason that the OP is suggesting putting it at level 30 (which, to be fair, he never once said IP gains shouldn't be increased across the board for everyone, just trying to put in a suggestion for what to do with EXP after you stop gaining it) is so that players that are around now who are already level 30 don't get left out on the new, better IP gains. As someone who already has everything unlocked, I don't care one way or the other, but I think the IP gain system seriously needs to be looked at (and Riot needs to put in more things I can buy for IP, I'm almost maxed out on rune pages too).

No,it's you who aren't paying attention.

Ip gains are mostly a problem for new players, they are the one needing content the most yet this change is specifically aimed at limiting its help to them, again: anything would be better,be it extra ip on level up or just increasing ip gains across the board, giving them after 30 is THE WORST POSSIBLE OPTION.

This boost kicks in RIGHT WHEN YOU HIT 30. Which is still in a place where you're going to NEED that extra IP.

BUT YOU NEEDED IT BEFORE 30 AS WELL.

No. The reason op suggested it is that he wants more ip gains(which is fine) but he also wanted to give some shitty reason aside from "ip gains are too small"(which is a fine reason),so he chose "we stop getting exp after 30".

As someone who already has everything unlocked, I don't care one way or the other, but I think the IP gain system seriously needs to be looked at (and Riot needs to put in more things I can buy for IP, I'm almost maxed out on rune pages too).

I've stockpiled 140k ip as well,I don't care too much either, but new players need it the most and it's suggested in a way to specifically screw them.

Okay, major question and it's what's bothering me about your huge wall of text posts:

HOW CAN NEW AND BETTER IP GAIN SYSTEMS POSSIBLY SCREW OVER ANYONE?

That's the major disconnect. People that hit level 30 are still "new" players - they still haven't played ranked, probably don't have a lot of game knowledge, etc. AGAIN, I think IP gains should be increased ACROSS THE BOARD due to the increased amount of champions/runes in comparison to, say, season 1, but why does this particular idea rub you the wrong way so hard? It's perfectly logical that when you stop gaining EXP, it should be replaced with something else (instead of just getting less rewards per game forever). Sure, EXP is really just a stupid mechanic anyway (I don't even think there should be a leveling system in this game, honestly) but it's even dumber that when you hit level 30 you just stop gaining EXP and continue to gain these piddly little IP amounts. There's a problem with the IP gains as a WHOLE, but this is a SINGLE STEP that could improve them.

Okay, major question and it's what's bothering me about your huge wall of text posts:

Because you are intentionally not giving new players-the people who need more ip the most, said ip.

That's the major disconnect. People that hit level 30 are still "new" players - they still haven't played ranked, probably don't have a lot of game knowledge, etc.

Nonetheless they still need it more than anyone,it's not just that, some people come here from other mobas, these guys actually can just jump straight into ranked...if only they had the runes and champions...

AGAIN, I think IP gains should be increased ACROSS THE BOARD due to the increased amount of champions/runes in comparison to, say, season 1, but why does this particular idea rub you the wrong way so hard?

Because you are deciding to give more ip specifically to the group which needs it the least, yes people after 30 still lack content, but not as much as people before 30.

The thing which lies in the very core of this thread is completely nonsensical "let's give more ip specifically to those who have the least use of it". Hots for example gives you extra gains per level up(which caps at 40),they realize new players need content the most, why is this such a hard concept to understand?

It's perfectly logical that when you stop gaining EXP, it should be replaced with something else (instead of just getting less rewards per game forever). Sure, EXP is really just a stupid mechanic anyway (I don't even think there should be a leveling system in this game, honestly) but it's even dumber that when you hit level 30 you just stop gaining EXP and continue to gain these piddly little IP amounts. There's a problem with the IP gains as a WHOLE, but this is a SINGLE STEP that could improve them.

It will improve them in a very dumb way,the concept of "just give everyone more ip" is both simpler and way better than "give more ip to those specifically over 30".

Again,I'm all for more ip,just don't limit it to the least sensible group.

I doubt that Riot will do anything considering they made what? Almost a billion? More? They really should increase the IP you receive at level 30, or levels 1-10 to allow brand new players to get more into the game. When I first started playing, I played off and on for months before actually getting into it cause every week, the champs I wanted to play were not free, but they were 3150+ and I just couldn't get into the game when I couldn't play the fun champs I wanted. Especially since the economy is really bad and I can't afford to throw cash into this game AND pay my bills. Too bad Riot doesn't have a financial aid thing going on XD. I'd also like to see a 2 RP reward per win or something, a very small amount of rp that would require MANY games to get anything significant, but still enough to incite people to play a lot more.

Sona Ping1 votes

Not really. They did already rework runes and removed some things that really were those screwed players over that were in there "because F2P", so it's not outside consideration.

"They really should increase the IP you receive at... levels 1-10 to allow brand new players to get more into the game." They already do this, actually.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Not to a good enough degree in my opinion, its only a very slight increase, they really should have it basically to where its all on IP boosts for those players, letting them get one or two 6300 champions that they really like early on, I feel as though that would broaden the community as I know many people who feel as though its a must to put money into this game to get what you really want and enjoy the game from the start.

I am honestly happy with the amount of IP we get as level 30s, although, a little bit extra like 5% increase in IP earnings as you hit level 30 would be great to help players get the runes they need, as well as pay for any champions they require to be able to do well in ranked. Two - Three for each role.

This is a pretty interesting concept. I was initially thinking there is no way something like this would get implemented because the loss of people buying champions with RP. However, it would be an interesting study to see if skin sales in effect increase due to people owning more champions.

More IP given for free = less RP bought = less profit for Riot Games.

Have I completely outlined this well enough for you? They don't throttle the rewards because they didn't realize that you want more of them, they did it because that's how capitalism has directed them.

This system needs to be in place, most of the bronzies are bronzies because they only have 2/3 champions that are viable, if they're picked or banned, they just choose randomly and end up throwing the game, if they had a larger IP bank everyone could play what they want with the runes they want. You may have forgotten that RIOT is a company. They want to see us have fun, but they leave things like ip grinding in the game to promote people supporting them through buying RP. That's ok. They have to make a profit somehow or they go bankrupt.
