Tips on leaving bronze? And why I may quit the game...

AeroFallenAngel··4 votes·2,509 views

First let me start off by saying that I do not belong in bronze. Meaning last season I was Silver II but when I did the placement matches for this season, I wound up on four teams with an afk in a row. Then even though I played through each game (didnt rage or afk), and i did well each game (little deaths, positive kda) I still got put in bronze V because someone else afk and we lose.

Now being in bronze is an entirely different story... Seemingly impossible to leave and seriously making me consider quitting this game and playing Smite or DOTA or something. Reason being, 99% of the games I've played I have received one of the following:

 • 1 or more afks (whether it be raging or "lag" or "I only have 5 minutes until i have to leave"... seriously?) -Trolls (Heimerdinger adcHeimerdinger item 3031 , ad aniviaAnivia item 3035 , "lets all 5 go mid"Heimerdinger Velkoz Teemo Swain Shen ) NOTE: I am completely fine with breaking the meta... just not in ranked where other people are trying to rank up and you are dragging them down. -Feeders (You know... that guy who is like 0/3 before minions even spawn... end game 1/21/2 and raging at the rest of the team...) -And just poor play all around. No positioning, supports roaming the enemies jungle unwarded, adc in the front line, 0 landed skillshots, bad engages... need I go on?

Now I know that I am far from LCS level but being someone who is actually trying to leave bronze, it is not possible. Ive had quite a few games where I have 20+ kills, single digit deaths and we still lose no matter how hard I try. Now I know what you're saying "it's a team game" which is true BUT i also believe league points should be based on your individual skill also. I mean think of the best adc in the world... now put him on a bronze team with random people he has never met. Top lane is 1/15/1, Jung is 2/5/1, mid is 2/11/3, support is 1/8/18, adc is 18/1/1. He loses the game... Does that mean he is all of a sudden bronze material because he couldn't carry 3-4 others who do not know the fundamentals of the game?

EXAMPLE: That game I called ADC and had pick order, Graves said nothing and just locked the champ in at last pick. Instead of raging like i wanted to, I went mid and actually did well. Even provided the other lanes with ganks after I forced Talon out of lane... Then Jax went afk because of lag, Graves flamed the entire game, fed, and didn't listen to anyone. Needless to say, we lost. And I lose 26 LP... really?

I mean, winning gives you like 10LP and losing subtracts like 30 regardless of how well you play and honestly the game is just losing it's fun to me. To go into every game KNOWING you will encounter either a troll or an afk gets old very fast, especially when I've been playing for a while and, although I'm no Challenger level, I'm a lot better than bronze. Just cannot leave because the elo is full of people who are new or do not care...

What should i do?

Just go into every game assuming that everyone else will troll. Your team has 4 trolls, their team has five. Odds are, you'll win most games.

Pucking Purrfect1 votes

Nice logic. What if there is no troll in their team but yours?

AeroFallenAngel3 votes

I think from reading my post he is safe to assume that I do not go into any ranked game to troll... Heck I don't even troll in norms

Reason being, 99% of the games I've played I have received one of the following

Your rating is super low. Of course you are playing with that sort of player. Equally of course, the opposing team is loaded with that sort of player, too.

I mean, winning gives you like 10LP and losing subtracts like 30 regardless of how well you play and honestly the game is just losing it's fun to me.

Don't worry about the LP system. It's just window dressing on the old elo system with a bit of a delay built in. If you win more games than you lose, the system will eventually notice.

To go into every game KNOWING you will encounter either a troll or an afk gets old very fast, especially when I've been playing for a while and, although I'm no Challenger level, I'm a lot better than bronze.

Tough love here: I see on lolking you are 15-15 in bronze 5. That means you are where you deserve to be over those 30 games. It's not impossible for that to be bad luck, but statistically it's very unlikely you are playing better than a bronze 3 level right now.

What should i do?

Primarily, get more CS. I see a lot of 30+ minute games on your profile where you are way south of 200 CS. Kill more creeps and everything gets easier.

Secondarily, more assists. Especially when you jungle.

Consider playing support more often.

Pucking Purrfect4 votes

He is saying that he lost games because of feeders, trolls etc. and you are still talking about his w - l (15-15) ratio. Nice logic there. It is easy to talk when you are in high elo eh?

SmokingPuffin2 votes

He's in bronze 5. Of course there are feeders and trolls everywhere. Some games won't be winnable because your team is just too useless.

Doesn't mean you can't climb.

AeroFallenAngel2 votes

Have to agree with Pucking here... It's like you playing 5v5 basketball but the other 4 people on your team have no arms. Then i'm saying you suck and belong on that team all the time because you couldn't pull off a miraculous win by yourself...

"Your rating is super low. Of course you are playing with that sort of player. Equally of course, the opposing team is loaded with that sort of player, too."

I addressed this in my post...

"Don't worry about the LP system. It's just window dressing on the old elo system with a bit of a delay built in. If you win more games than you lose, the system will eventually notice."

How can I not worry about the very system that is keeping me in bronze?...

"Tough love here: I see on lolking you are 15-15 in bronze 5. That means you are where you deserve to be over those 30 games. It's not impossible for that to be bad luck, but statistically it's very unlikely you are playing better than a bronze 3 level right now."

I am 15-15 on bronze 5 for the reasons I stated... When the enemy has like a 25/1/10 Master Yi, no matter how well I play personally, I ALONE cannot come back from that. Especially if say im playing support or a utility mid/top... I have a feeling you hardly read my post and just saw "bronze raging about being in bronze" when i actually gave a lot of legitimate points...

"Primarily, get more CS. I see a lot of 30+ minute games on your profile where you are way south of 200 CS. Kill more creeps and everything gets easier."

I do CS pretty well. Difference between higher elos and bronze is higher elos sort of give you time to cs. Meaning people usually stay in their lanes for a few and cs. bronze, on the other hand, teams want to all group mid in like 5 minutes...

"Secondarily, more assists. Especially when you jungle."

I would totally assist more in jung. when i do gank I usually pick up a kill for my team or the lane i ganked for. I have also heard from LCS interviews to not gank a fed lane and, well lets be honest, a lot of feeding goes on in bronze. Usually the guy who always pushes the enemy to turret, doesnt ward, gets ganked and dies OR pointlessly tower dives and dies THEN begs for ganks after their opponent is like 5/0/0.

"Consider playing support more often."

Support is actually one of my favorite rolls to play and i'd LOVE to play it more. The thing that makes me not is the adc i get paired with. And I noticed that usually if I dont play another carry roll (usually mid) the lane winds up getting stomped and the game is over in like 15 minutes. At least if im playing a carry roll there is a better chance of us winning. Like i said, in MOST games i play I do really well. Many times I've pretty much carried the entire team to victory (usually with a solo queue op champ like Kat or something). But more often than not, multiple lanes are buffet feeding and I, singlehandedly, cannot always bring us back.

Also Note: I did not ever claim to be a super high-elo leveled player. Silver II - Gold IV most likely right now. Being in bronze is not a reflection of my skill level nor will it help me improve. Losing games because I get constant trolls or afks does not help me become a better player.

Tavish2 votes

well... Let's look at this logically:

If you ALWAYS get trolls in your division, then so must the other team; so the other team will have 5 trolls and your team will only have 4, because you are not trolling. Thus, you should have a better chance of winning.

Ranked can be annoying, but I can promise you if you play enough and you really deserve to be higher on the ladder, you will climb. If you don't climb, then you are making mistakes somewhere.

Why aren't I that 21-1-5 Yi I complain about? Obviously he can carry, why can't I? Why did I die 5 times? If I'm way better than my lane opponent why am I even on CS? Can I roam? Can I communicate with my team? Why didn't we get any dragons? Why do I not have any wards or a sweeper yet? What Can I improve on?

Ask yourself these kinds of questions after every game, and you will notice a huge skill increase. I'm certainly not the best player in the world. Peaked at gold 4 last season. But I climbed from bronze 2. I went from silver 4 to gold 5 in a week. Just takes time, and an acceptance that sometimes losing is YOUR fault. Just work on improving.

1)Top and mid combined feed Yi 25 kills. You are playing support Thresh because either 1) Support is one of your best rolls or 2) you were last pick and that is all that was left. Can I hear your explanation of how you will carry your team to victory?

 1. I don't ALWAYS get trolls. Most of the time it is an afk. And no, the other team does not have an afk also or it wouldnt even be worth typing here as playing a 4v4 would not bother me.

 2. I stated in an earlier reply that i indeed HAVE carried games alone with solo-queue OP champs (yi, kat, akali, etc) assuming the rest of the team at least does moderately well. Not saying they must dominate their lane, just saying that in 5 minutes their enemy laner shouldnt be 16/0/0. I roam when I can and im usually up on CS in my lane. Not going to roam while my enemy laner pushes down my lane so i usually kill him then roam. BUT, if you've ever played Jungle on a team that isnt doing so hot, you'd know that you cannot, no matter how hard you try, gank every lane at once.

 3. If you watch LCS (not putting myself on their level) you'd know that even the best players and most fed champs cannot always carry their team to victory. Watch the most recent TSM vs CLG game for that. So i can be fed as fk but i'll give you a real example that I recorded last week of me playing mid Kat: -I am 23/4/11 -Bot lost inhib -My team decides to go baron while the entire enemy team is up. I ping and warn repeatedly to not do that and defend. Noone listens. As a matter of fact our Ashe adc (3/14/2) called me a noob for NOT going for baron. (Mind you super minions are knocking on our door step) -Im defending our nexus turrets alone while adc, supp, and top are baroning and the jung is derping in the enemies jungle brush (no clue why. also told him to leave there. didnt listen) -Their team shows up at baron. Enemy Riven gets double kill, enemy Jinx gets double kill. Their jung smite steals baron. They storm mid. Im defending, alone against baroned up super minions and 5 champs. Manage to kill 3 but in the end they overwhelmed the base and won... How is that my fault?

Or when 2 others on my team are a duo and they both DC... how is that my fault?

Or when top lane picks a Teemo into a Riven and feeds... my fault again?

Everything i can work on I have (increasing champ pool, CSing, not taking unnecessary risks, warding, calling MIAs, letting the team know my intent when i plan to gank, playing OP champs, etc) and i win a lot of games that way but, like i stated before, I can win 6 games in a row gaining 10LP each time, Lose 2 games and I'm back at 0.

It takes ages to die 25 times. What in the world were you doing with all that time? Get your lane won and get your ass to mid, so that you can countergank Yi and get the shut down.

 1. I don't ALWAYS get trolls. Most of the time it is an afk. And no, the other team does not have an afk also or it wouldnt even be worth typing here as playing a 4v4 would not bother me.

I think you'll be surprised to find just how effective stomping your lane is at improving your teammates' internet connections.

 1. I stated in an earlier reply that i indeed HAVE carried games alone with solo-queue OP champs (yi, kat, akali, etc) assuming the rest of the team at least does moderately well. Sounds like you are playing too correctly. This is bronze 5. Everyone around you is awful. Don't settle for being up a kill and 20 CS. Make the opposing laner prove that he can hang in lane with you. If the initial trades say "this guy is bad", go for an all-in once you see their jungler elsewhere on the map and rely on your ability to outplay to make the kill.

How is that my fault?

Everyone following a bad call is preferable to only some of the team following a good call.

Or when 2 others on my team are a duo and they both DC... how is that my fault?

They probably DC because they got stomped. You could have prevented those cases by roaming to their lane before the damage was catastrophic, or by stomping your lane harder than they got stomped so they feel like they still have a chance.

Or when top lane picks a Teemo into a Riven and feeds... my fault again?

Not your fault, but also not uncarriable.

I can win 6 games in a row gaining 10LP each time, Lose 2 games and I'm back at 0.

If you can manage even a 60% win rate over a longer stretch of games, this will no longer be true. I think you will need to win about 15 games more than you lose to escape bronze 5 with your current MMR.

AeroFallenAngel1 votes

Also if I went to baron also, minions would have won the game. About 4 stacked waves of super minions coming bot and i knew Riven's tele was up. By the time I got to baron the game would have been over.

Sorry, but it seems to me you have a very "I don't make any mistakes, my teams just suck" attitude. and the statistics are against you. How does anyone get to higher tier if everything can be so screwed by your team? Just luck? Because I guarantee you a high elo player could smurf out of bronze? So what is it then?

SmokingPuffin1 votes

How can I not worry about the very system that is keeping me in bronze?...

It isn't. The LP system is just some fancy window dressing on what is really happening. It doesn't affect matchmaking and it doesn't change your MMR. If you are winning more games than you are losing, you are climbing, no matter what the LP system says.

More tough love: you are wallowing in self pity. Everything you say is about how there is nothing you can do. That attitude will not allow you to climb. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I do CS pretty well. Difference between higher elos and bronze is higher elos sort of give you time to cs. Meaning people usually stay in their lanes for a few and cs. bronze, on the other hand, teams want to all group mid in like 5 minutes...

Maybe you are good at last hitting. That is not the same as being good at CSing. You need more last hits than you are getting to carry. You have to figure out how to get enough time with the minions to get the money you need to win.

Correct, you don't gank a lost lane. Find the player on your team that isn't useless. Get them fed. After that's done, start killing towers.

Support is a really easy role to carry from. You don't have to CS, so you can spend all your energy stomping all over the enemy laners. After you win lane, you don't have to CS, so you can roam to mid and get them fed. You still don't have to CS, so you can join your jungler to go invade theirs and make even more kills.

If you are "doing really well" -- which I take to mean that your KDA is pretty good -- but still losing games, that's usually a signal that you don't know how to do one of two things:

 1. Convert personal strength into won engagements
 2. Convert won engagements into objectives

But more often than not, multiple lanes are buffet feeding and I, singlehandedly, cannot always bring us back.

Some games will not be winnable. Do not focus on those. You don't need to win 100%, just 55%.

One thing you should consider -- bronze games snowball ultra hard. Nobody in bronze games knows how to stop the bleeding. If you can be there when the first play happens in a lane, that usually decides the lane. It's possible that your lanes are tending to lose more often than win because you're not trying to make plays enough of the time.

Also Note: I did not ever claim to be a super high-elo leveled player. Silver II - Gold IV most likely right now. Being in bronze is not a reflection of my skill level nor will it help me improve. Losing games because I get constant trolls or afks does not help me become a better player.

Get the idea that you are better than your opponents out of your head. It does not help you win games.

You will get constant trolls or afks. Does not mean you cannot improve, and will not stop you from climbing once you have.

More tough love: you are wallowing in self pity. Everything you say is about how there is nothing you can do. That attitude will not allow you to climb. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Evert time i turn on LOL I have a positive attitude, which is why I decide to play in the first place. I will tell you how my day went: Game 1: Close game that we won. No afk, no trolls, top lane didnt do so hot because he was new but he didnt super feed either. No complaints there. Game 2: We get a duo bot lane who were both last picks. They duo Annie and Anivia. I already had Morg in mid, had Vi jung, Nasus top. I was still positive saying things like "we have a lot of cc and they have 1 damage dealer. If we lock down the adc we can win team fights easily" 4mins in enemy bot lane gets a double kill... a minute after that they get another. Seeing this i push my lane up and go to help bot because the jung was... well idk what the jung was doing because they never replied. I assisted in securing 2 kills for our "adc" (guess anivia was the adc o.O). I go back mid. Not even 2 minutes later "Enemy double kill" bot dies again. Still stayed positive... still lost. Game 3: Another duo bot lane. Graves and Ali this time. I went jung Rek, had an Ahri mid, nasus top. Enemy had a top panth so we agreed to shut him down early which i did. 7 minutes into the game Ali says he has to go because his mom is mad. Here's the kicker! That means Graves has to leave too. Cherry on top: Graves is 0/3/2 (I killed 2 bot from ganking. Graves died before he could secure a kill) and Ali is like 0/5/2. Mid Ahri was going even in her lane. Nasus was doing well in lane. The afk duo never came back. Lost that game too. Game 4: Actually never got started because last 2 picks never replied until the last like 4 seconds of champ selection and only supp and adc was open and they wound up picking heimerdinger and veigar. So someone else dodged.

Maybe you are good at last hitting. That is not the same as being good at CSing. You need more last hits than you are getting to carry. You have to figure out how to get enough time with the minions to get the money you need to win.

Working on better CSing. I watch vids from diff LCS players all the time to improve gameplay.

Get the idea that you are better than your opponents out of your head. It does not help you win games.

You will get constant trolls or afks. Does not mean you cannot improve, and will not stop you from climbing once you have.

If you go in thinking you are worse or on the same level as your opponent, how does that help? After all, if you don't believe in yourself, no one else will either. I made the statement because if you constantly compare yourself to people worse than you, how will you ever improve? I learned that just from running track for 12 years. If you constantly have the mind set of "well at least im faster than that guy" your progression will halt.

i thoughts its assassins holding bronze back from climbing

Amelie3 votes

I know the feeling, OP. I was Gold 1 last season but have to climb through low Silver because of really unlucky placements/afks/trolls/smurfs/etc.

My advice is to play more lane bullies or assassins. You've done well with Katarina and Teemo. Take Morgana or Vel'koz as support sometimes. You can get yourself fed twice as fast bot lane than mid lane, especially if they are bad and you are good. And a feeding bot lane can cause them to ragequit pretty easily (sad but true).

AeroFallenAngel2 votes

Working on that. At the moment i am learning LeBlanc in norms. I play a minimum of 30 norm/custom games with a champ before ever bringing them to ranked. Just making me mad the people on here basically saying i belong in bronze because i get other trolls on my team. You'd swear they never lost a game in their lives by how easy they make it sound to single handedly carry your entire team... smh

insaiyanbacca1 votes

another support that can get fed easily against bronze bot lanes is annie

if you are getting that little LP and losing that much while being in bronze then sorry to say this but you belong in an even lower tier. You should look at yourself instead of talking about trolls

BluePolarizer1 votes

You can always carry harder.

This game was won when at one point the enemy ADC was hitting our Nexus. Not Nexus turrets, Nexus.

http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/1726883065/213933916?tab=overview

Not a single person on my team was positive except me.

This is gold elo.

You need better strategy.

AeroFallenAngel1 votes

I know what you mean about "better strategy", thing is, strategy only matters when people listen. Higher chance of that in higher elos. Example: Top lane heimerdinger (yes they do that crap in ranked bronze) is pushed to enemy turret, I'm playing mid but I notice that Heimer hasnt warded the river... at all... I alert ping him and type "river isnt warded. back up b4 ganked". He doesnt listen, gets ganked, dies. This happens 5 more times in a row. All the while our jungle wont gank for anyone because he just wants to farm jungle. 5 minutes later they all decide to try to baron while the enemy team is all up. I, once again, warn of how terrible of a decision that is. I say to ward around baron and bait a teamfight that I know we can win. Noone listens, they get chunked down by Baron, enemy Katarina ults in for the easy quadra kill (Side Note: our team captain decided to ban teemo, nocturne, and shaco)

So yes, strategy is VERY important but is only as effective as others listening skills. Now if i was playing with 4 friends that i play with daily and losing games like this, YES for one reason or another I should be in bronze. Thing is... im not. Randoms. The 10 year old who just installed, the guy who is mad at his girlfriend so he will troll in ranked all day, the guy who has to leave to buy groceries in 10 minutes after the game starts, the guy who dies every time he arrives in lane, the guy with the 1kbps internet speeds that disconnects every 3 seconds.

Last season I managed to climb from Silver V to Silver II in solo queue for the sole reason that there are a lot less trolls so me playing well actually mattered. Not here.

I just played a game that I lost as Master Yi (then won one as Master Yi right afterwards), with a top lane heimer that fed, a Vayne that fed, an Ahri that fed, and a Thresh that fed. Enemy Vi was 8-1 at one point. However, at no point in the game did I feel it was unwinnable. We actually got the top inhib, aced the enemy team once in a 1 for 5, and if it wasn't for shockingly poor decisionmaking from Vayne (like red buff > bot inner turret LMAO) and poor play from Ahri, we would've won with my splitpushing. I could've done alot more, like pop Randuins earlier to slow ppl during chases instead of when I'm almost dead, smite after Vi smites, etc. I could've seen Vayne was useless and then pressured mid with Heimer instead of uselessly pressure top in their jungle. I could've killed their carries when they were alone by placing more wards.

I could've carried harder.

You can climb. I've got a friend who ended S5 last season, went on a losing streak during placements and placed B5, he's now up to B2, probably about 20 LP now, he's climbed 2 divisions in a week. For me I ended the season s4 and dropped to s5 at the reset, I'm placed B5, and according to stat sites I'm MMR/ELO was below 500 at one point. I'm currently about 50 LP into B4, trying to go on a win streak to get my MMR/ELO up so I can more than ~15 points a win and lose less than 25 a loss. Played with a Platinum smurf ADC a couple weeks ago, he promised a 20-25 minute game, it went to about 27 minutes, and he carried the hell out of us he backed like 4 times in the game and each time he bought a full item, had around 200 cs at the end, and way more kills than the rest of us.
