Riot bring us Ranked ARAM please.

After checking google, this idea has already been submitted by SamsWrath( https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/sygfJ9mF-ranked-aram-idea ), however no discussion was brought up in it and I'd really like to see Ranked ARAM for personal reasons haha.

First off just saying that I have done 0 research in the forums if this idea has already been brought up or not, I don't mean to plagiarize if so, just hoping to get Ranked aram in the game haha. I am also unsure about Riot's intended vision for ARAM as far as if it's simply meant to be a fun casual game mode not meant to turn into a try hard mode. However, I feel that there is potential for the game mode to see ranked as an option to queue for or even make ranked the only option to queue for so as to not split the mode into two queues.

From my aram experience my three main gripes with the game mode are the "ARAM Smurfs" who only buy the top tier ARAM champs, getting bad ARAM champions even after rerolling and the lack of ranked or intense ARAM games ( multiple variables such as player skill levels, GOD tier comp vs bad tier comp) .

I feel that out of all the game modes, ARAM has the most cemented tier list or rather champions that are good and champions that are bad. I wish I had a tally going to confirm this, but in my experience you begin to see a lot of the same top tier champions either through re-rolls, smurfs, etc.

I understand that it is called "All Random", but when all random means that players get stuck with terrible ARAM champions it ruins the game for everyone. This leads to people creating smurfs just for aram, people dodging because they didn't get a good hero, lack of intense games because one team comp is far superior to the other team's, making the game no contest at all. On top of that, even when both teams are pretty balanced, there's still the problem of having high skilled players vs low skilled players or a mix, making the games unfun for lower skilled players and turning them into who can dive each team's skilled players better.

**I think that we should allow the player to choose from the whole roster of champions which could be done from the summoner's personal champion menu, a set number of champions ( could be 30, 40 or X ). ** I understand this would be limit the randomness of the game mode, and perhaps there should be a normal aram queue without the restricted set of champions, but this would eliminate a lot of the negatives I see with ARAM currently.

Giving the player freedom to choose what champions they would like to see would lessen the chance of getting a poor ARAM champion while still keeping the randomness to the game mode. If the magic # could be found I think that most games would have two balanced team comps. Players would have to be careful of which champions they pick, so they don't lack tanks, carries, counter picks to other top tier picks etc. in their set. This would still give players the option to pick any hero they want to see.

There could also be a ban system in place much like draft to further balance the two comps in case one team gets random'ed too many top tier picks. Since it is ranked, the team skill level would be balanced as well. The main issue I see with this is again the restricted randomness, but currently getting champs like Veigar is a free win.

In short,

  • Ranked would level out skill levels
  • Allow player to select a set number of champions for ARAM
  • Possible ban similar to draft to further balance team compositions if needed

These changes I think would make team comps more balanced and adding ranked would balance player skill levels.

Ranked ARAM has been brought up many times by many different people over the years. Riot even mentioned it in one of the more recent "Ask Riot" segments. Essentially, Riot's not quite satisfied with how ARAM is, but players generally seem to like it. Additionally, Ranked ARAM is complicated, due to having to balance between player frustration and the spirit of the game mode.

even make ranked the only option to queue for so as to not split the mode into two queues.

Would potentially scare away casuals, so probably not.

allow the player to choose from the whole roster of champions which could be done from the summoner's personal champion menu, a set number of champions ( could be 30, 40 or X ).

Would significantly impact ARAM's champ diversity, so it's not necessarily "good." Might be workable if Riot regularly balanced ARAM to shift up relative champ power, but as-is, it seems like it'd get stale fairly quickly.

  • Ranked would level out skill levels

ARAM already has MMR, so ranked wouldn't help much in that sense. The most ranked would do is provide an explicitly serious, competitive environment to minimize the current mix of casual and competitive players. After all, it's difficult for everyone to enjoy themselves if two teammates care while the other three don't.

The two things that annoy me most about ARAm atm are the queue dodges, and the people that reroll that one tank your team desperately needs to complete your composition to get a nice, fun-to-play, ranged champ because they don't like playing tank in ARAM....(I kinda hate rerolls in general, wouldn't mind seeing rerolls removed, though I imagine that would only encourage more people to queue dodge comps that they think are bad; even if they would be proven to be wrong if they actually just sucked it up and played).
