Dot damage and enemies off radius of their tower
So whenever I play Brand now, (the only other champ who has this issue at anywhere near the same level is malzahar) whenever we force the enemy team off turret I will not be able to assist my team in taking the tower, the tower will aggro because 2 seconds ago I hit the enemy with an ability. I know the turret aggro change was to make it so in competitive play you can't use a combination of turret aggro juggling and aggressive dives to just kill the enemy level 3, to deny cs, this was in conjunction with the turret gold reward and removal of DR on botlane turret. to go into this discussion we first have to ask whether dots should draw turret aggro, and the answer is yes, before the turret aggro change it was intended behaviour that dots draw aggro, and for good reason you're doing damage to the champ you should take aggro.
This new change however punishes common choices for dots, deathfire touch and liandries. It's an indirect nerf and probably has been creating unintended balance changes this whole time, Brand, Liandries itself and deathfire touch have all been balanced around the fact that they draw aggro in one case but they added a whole new case where it's made them take a turn for the worse. What can't you do now that you have a 5 second window where you can't be near their turret?
Here's a really simple scenario: you're Brand with Rylais and you hit their midlaner, Viktor with an ability while he's under turret, he flashes out of turret range. You can't flash follow now, because that's what you need to escape turret aggro, you can't hit tower because again turret aggro, you're basically being punished because of your kit. Any other character can be rewarded with a kill (maybe you take one turret shot before you get the kill and walk out of their turret, brand will take 3 with the same play) or free damage on their tower, brand misses 5 seconds of turret damage (deathfire touch plus passive lasts 5 seconds) which should be your reward by the strength of your play alone. Instead he gets less chance to punish or just a simple trade of kills for winning his lane at a crucial moment.
There are a few balance changes I could suggest, I think they're all reasonable. 1: most dots in general that aren't ignite don't draw aggro when the enemy is not in range of their turret but you are. Fringe cases like Cassiopoeia's ground poison still draw aggro, but liandries and death fire touch, malzahar E don't draw aggro in this case. 2: This is intended and people who rely on dots should just know how to play around the new aggro mechanic. 3: Some of the dots that draw aggro (brand passive namely could be some others) get something to compensate, maybe the turret won't aggro a dot user if they start autoing the turret, this could be ok but is pretty confusing imo. I'd just like some word as to whether people who play with these tools should suck it up or whether we can get a balance change that helps these out because even if it's not a big thing, it's certainly really frustrating to have to deal with in game.
all do fair amounts of damage, so if I cant be at my tower because of it, neither should you. You should know when taking a champion with a dot that you have a tower handicap. It is the trade off for your extra damage and you added poke power.
and likely a few others which I cannot remember right now. Not to mention
has a dot too.
