One Trick Ponies

I continue too see two opinions on this topic, one, that defends OTP's and the other that bashes them over the head and calls them garbage. So, I openly invite you to weigh in on you opinion on OTP's, after I give mine. :)

So, I personally like OTP's for a few different reasons. 1: If I know a person on my team is a OTP I can be sure that he has all of the mechanics of that Champion down to a T, (or he should at least)

2: Because this OTP has all the knowledge of their champ down, they can spend more time looking at the minimap and warding, and jg paths and timings.

3: For people who aren't otp's I'm not saying it is impossible to ward, look at your minimap, and pay attention in general, but it is not as easy as you will have to focus on your champions mechanics more then someone who has only played their (lets say riven as a champion) 500 games, because the more experience you have with your champ the easier it is to focus on other things in the game.

4: Although I am not a OTP, I am kind of using that style for when I play ranked, I almost exclusively play Cassiopeia in ranked and follow the OTP's example of the game.

Now, I think these are the reasons people hate otp's

1: they will only play their champ even if the team comp pleads for a tank or someone with cc.

2: they can generally only play 1 to 2 roles, usually top or mid, and if they get autofilled they will probably not be that great.

3: If they get banned out they plummet in terms of effectiveness.

Soooo, what are your opinions on OTP's? Did I leave any reasons out? Let me know :D

I am an OTP 100% of the way. I mean I can kinda play other champions to a semi decent level. But none as high as I can play my koggy <3

What if I try to be a 2 trick pony for top but have support as my backup position?

Honestly, I just don't understand how people can one-trick champions.

I love having a versatility and variety of a champion pool in my preferred role. I helps stop me from getting bored, lets me adjust depending on the situation and lets me learn the role better.

Personal preference, I suppose.

One-Tricking Champions is stupid. Especially considering the way League of Legends balances itself, One-Tricks are always doomed to struggle the second they get nerfed somehow.

Role Specialists are what I advocate for. People who know their ROLE very well are WAY better and can contribute a lot more to their team because they know exactly what is demanded of them, what their team needs from their role, and how they can meet those needs.

People who know 1-2 roles are always a bigger boon than people who know a little bit of everything. It is precisely because League of Legends is a team game that you should rely on others to maximize their potential in (at most) 2 positions so that there is a greater margin of victory.

You would rather have someone on a champ like renekton who knows top lane to a t, then have someone like Adrian riven on riven who not only knows their lane but also one tricks the champ?

Valid point though, just asking

In general, yes I would. Like I said before, the issue with One-tricks comes when their champion of choice gets nerfed, their effectiveness directly suffers because they play very few (if any) champions outside of that one. So Adrian will be outright worse when Riven gets nerfed, but the Renekton player can still play anything else and deliver just as effectively.
