Ezreal q procs Luden's echo now?

I just played a game of ezreal and bought a Luden's echo. I found that it now procs on his q. Now I know that it used to proc on weird things like if you had hextech revolver and I think a couple other cases, so I thought it might be one of the new masteries/runes causing this. I then went and tested different masteries/runes and it didn't seem to make a difference, ezreal's q still proc'd luden's echo. Does anyone know what happened? I briefly went through recent patch notes but didn't see anything that might have caused this change. To be clear, I went into the practice mode and ONLY bought luden's to test this. It didn't matter what masteries/runes I took, luden's always proc'd on ezreal's q.

Pretty sure it always has. There was even that time where Ezreal went mid with smite, bought Runeglaive, Ludens, and Lichbane and ran around chunking half of a squishies HP per Q. This is the reason why the jungle item and Ludens no longer stack.

The wording for Luden's say "Gains charges upon moving or casting. At 100 charges, the next instance of ability damage you deal will expend all charges to deal 100 (+ 10% AP) bonus magic damage

Notice it says ability damage and not ability POWER damage. The wording means damage with an ability, not AP damage.

They stealth buffed it because they wanted it to proc Comet or maybe it was a "bugfix" that didn't get run past the game designers lol

Just tested this in game in the training tool. Ez's Q does proc Ludens on its own :)

For those who may not have already seen it, another person made a post on this exact same issue. A member of riot responded there. Here is the link: Ezreal's Q now applies spell hits, and it wasn't mentioned in the patch notes.
