Let's talk about Missions. Feedback.

Hello there Riot, here will be my opinion about Missions system after VS. has ended. I guess it's the ideal time. For those who don't want to read everything, pay attention only for quote blocks, that's the major thing.

TL;DR. Missions supposed to positively affect player's play-style or at least doesn't change it, but they doesn't achieve neither of this goals.

You probably already know everything what I'm trying to say and I wouldn't try to make decisions instead of Riot, like "do that and that'll solve all your problem" (it's not working like that). This post is just a feedback of what I see from my perspective.

I like VS. event and I like missions as an idea. Missions is a really good idea. The one thing I've worried about when they was introduced - that they'll affect on my way I play League. So what's gone wrong?

The way I've played before VS. event - hang out with my friends in Summoner's Rift. I've played mostly on weekends and in rare occasions during a week. We're trying to improve ourselves, we like to play together and we like to win together. Sometimes we loose more than we wins, sometimes opposite. That's enjoying, not always, but that's fun.

What's changed?

Before I continue - everybody likes to gain something. So let's skip part "You could've do it differently" or "Don't participate in event then". Everybody like to gain things, and event's unique content - is a nice thing. So, me and my friends want those icons\orbs, how can we get them? Doing missions. I have to if I want them.

Since I've limited on time, I need a strategy. Let's see what missions we have - it's a 'win a game' missions. I have 24 hours to complete this one and the second one after that. And I have 0 hours to do that on some days and on the others I have literally all day. How can I achieve that faster? Simple answer - Howling Abyss. I usually don't play Howling Abyss, don't really like it. But I've played Howling Abyss in the last two weeks more than in the last half of a year. I'm pretty sure that total amount of games played on ARAM is a way higher than usually during an event.

But VS. didn't supposed to force people to play there, right? Missions didn't supposed change your play-style in League, but it does. I can accept that for a week, but not on a permanent basis.

Missions. Earn 5 kills (not kills\assists, there was mission with 5 kills) - forces supports to go for a kill? Yes or you have to play not on your role, my GF is a support - 5 kills for support on Summoner's Rift? Probably, but we're out of time - let's go ARAM, it's simplier. Earn 400 minions as a team - easy on Summoner's Rift, easy for me, harder on ARAM. Some people love to play ARAM only, I know some. Gain ?? kills\assists. I like this one, that's pretty good, almost not forcing anyone and pretty simple. Some achievement for the player? No, after this mission he didn't get any better. Everyone gets kills and assists. Does he feel that he reached something. I guess not.

I could continue with each particular mission, but I've just wanted to paint you a picture of what's wrong with it.

  1. People with 'every day' online earn more. Not really fair, imo.
  2. Want to get things faster - play ARAM. Yeah, you could do that on Summoner's Rift, but you're out of time. See point 1.
  3. Missions goals. Does Missions improve my play-style? Not really. Do I feel better by doing Missions? Somehow, I'm playing SR less, but I've earned my icons. Does they distract me from my real match's goal - win? Yep, definitely.

I'm glad that event is over, if there will be the third week I would've started to ignore Missions. I still believe that you can improve Missions.

If you're still reading this, thank you for your patience. English is a foreign language to me and that was a notable effort to explain my thoughts as clear as possible.

Honestly just get rid of the map specific ones and I'll be happy. I'm okay with ones that are easier on maps like ARAM, but the 'win one aram' or 'win one summoner's rift' are annoying because I don't like ARAM, which means I also don't win ARAM too often, so I've gotta play multiple times on a gamemode I don't enjoy at all. Obviously I don't mind the 'win one summoner's rift' ones, but I'm sure there are ARAM exclusive players out there that are just as annoyed about it as I am the ARAM specific one.

That's true. I would totally agree if I had ability to play 1-2 Sumonner's Rifts per day and I would've comfortable with the system as it is. Guess there are a lot of persons who are in the same position as me.

Daily missions is not a thing that League of legends should have. It will be fun to do them 1-2 weeks , but then it becomes just boring. It would be more enjoyable in different form than it was last 2 week. smth like 1 weekly quest ( 7 days quest ) with multigoals which you can progress during whole week.

Playing lol gives us fun and enjoyable moments, but during this VS event i was disappointed 3-4 times before i went to sleep. Lossing 3 games in a row and wont be able to see next mission goal is really far more abusing. This lovely game forced me to play less fun matches and fear for capability of lossing some rewards.

In contempt of winning 700 tokens from the orb i still a bit disappointed of this event. Only my new Fiddlesticks skin warms me during cold and dark nights.
