Azir tuning tip
Why does Azir keep being so oppressive in competitive play? First, we have to understand why the Emperor is P/B. He has good damage, disgusting mobility/utility, and is a lane bully. However, he lacks early burst or hard cc. Also, with his core item as
, he has limited mana sustain, tankiness, utility, poke, and all the stuff Riot has been trying to balance. On the other hand, his recommended starting item
gives CDR and mana sustain for the cost of lane shoving, making him more vulnerable to lane control, and denying his 1v1 ability. Keep in mind that both these items offer NO HP whatsoever. With this said, there is one way to balance my king out. What if you say "After casting Shifting Sands, Azir deals less damage (percentage) for x seconds unless BOTH his Q, E and himself land on an enemy champion in a short window (less than 1 sec pref)." In SoloQ, Azir one tricks, including myself and numerous more, would dash on top of an enemy for a solo kill, but in LCS where people respect his Majesty's might, it is EXTREMELY hard to dash DIRECTLY ON TOP of an opponent without getting punished, as pros mostly use the Shurima Shuffle to engage, or a quick w-e to avoid ganks, and not actually hitting Q at the same time. This minimizes Azir's turn potential against junglers (as he is already hard to gank) and makes his E a much more valuable resource, while rewarding mechanically skilled players with early leads (not what azir is good at), and simultaneously punishing the use of Azir's mobility in the competitive scene. "To stay safe and sacrifice damage, or to take a huge risk at a CHANCE of dealing full damage?" is a question that every LCS player would have to ask themselves. This change, imho prevents Azir from being so oppressive in pro play, while maintaining the rewarding aspect and the Emperor identity that One Trick Ponies in SoloQ know, and love.
