Garen's rework --- in my design.

There should also be a change to his HP scaling since this kit is a little heavy in CC, while he keeps his W to make him the tank that he is.

I figure the HP scaling should be reduced from +90.67 per level to +82.33 per level. The nerf is needed because of his new kit offering him greater CC and potentially more sustain in a team fight.

Garen is currently in a sort of awkward position where he benefits from building both damage-carry items and tank items, such as Infinity's Edge and a Warmog's in the same game. His skills need to reflect more of one or the other. I made my decision to make him a tank with some CC based on his huge model and character.

My goal was to make Garen a more popular pick based on what he can bring into the team. Instead of an extensive single target silence, he now has a shorter duration silence that is an AOE, short ranged skill shot with the potential to slow enemies. His ultimate now afffects multiple targets, but instead of an execution he can help his team secure multiple kills, or peel for his teammates. The critical strikes were removed from his E to discourage the infinitys edge, but some flat armor penetration that scales on Garen's level is now present to increase not only his own damage, but his teammates as well.

In my opinion, the changes are not too drastic considering he is keeping his iconic health regen, movement speed buff, silence, CC and damage reduction, and spin to win. These changes were designed with the intention of making Garen a tank with utility rather than a single target tank/damage hybrid.

If you are here to argue numbers, I understand that I am not a professional, but they were tweaks I made in comparison to other champions who share a similar role or ability. Of course, the numbers would be tweaked to balance by Riot anyway. Please leave me your opinion on the rework! And give me a bump! :P

I feel like this rework would Garentee Garen Victory

Garen isn't meant to be a tank though. He's meant to be a fighter/bruiser meaning that even if he builds tanky, his goal is to deal damage. Also we should keep Garen beginners friendly.

So long as we can properly differentiate between "beginner friendly" and "unviable at non-beginner levels" I completely agree.

Hey, Annie is 100% beginner friendly but also has seen a lot of viability in pro level play, so it's definitely possible to have both. Also, Caitlyn DrMundo Maokai Nunu Sivir and many others are beginner friendly yet still see/have seen a lot of viability in high level play.

Very true, however in the past talks with Rioters have shown a disturbing lack of this in regards to the future of Garen. However I do trust that the current balance team is looking to do the right thing here.

I don't think I made Garen too complicated, have I? Adding skill shots shouldn't be too much of a difficulty boost since 3/5 of those have skill shots.

What my rework does is make Garen's consider a different combo order in certain situations. If anything, this will help people adjust into more advanced game play while making Garen a viable champion in several team compositions and competitive play.

No, that isn't a problem, I was just pointing out that it is possible to have "beginner friendly" and "viable" at the same time.

In this rework his role is just a little more clear. All the abilities scale on AD now, including his ult. And his E would apply a debuff that drops the enemies armor. He will still be a bruiser, except he finally has some utility to his kit. Other fighter/bruisers have it while the current Garen doesn't. A few examples would be Gnar, Lee Sin, Shyvana, and Xin Zhao. The point of them is to be built tanky, but have good damage due to high base damage / high growth stats in AD and such things.

If you looked at the math, most of his damage is unchanged, and actually, his ult would deal a good amount of damage to MULTIPLE targets, possibly all 5 enemy champions rather than one. Right now, Garen isn't seen in competitive play, and he should be. I mean, he's the face of Demacia!

The kit keeps its simplicity except for the Revocation stacks, which are also explained easily enough for anyone to understand. If you use your E or your R before your Q, your Q will slow them. If you use your E before your R, your R will heal you.

It was to create some diversity to Garen's game play. Giving Garen the option to solely dominate his lane by silencing someone and spinning away to trade for free against his opponent is not the way to go. Now there is more counter-play to Garen, and more reward for having Garen in your team.

They're changing Garen already, plus the new items incoming, let's see what happens =P

I personally like me some Garen when I don't want to think much and I just wanna spin to win :P TAKES THE EDGE OFF no joke

He was only recently placed on the rework list, wasn't he? No decisions seem to have been made seeing as there are no changes in the PBE yet.

Hey with this kit now he can throw people under tower and start spinning ;)
