Jungler smite's should be able to get assists and stop recalls

There have been SO MANY TIMES that I've seen one of my friends or myself smite someone as jungler and not even get an assist when they die. If a Lee Sin can shield someone and get an assist from that --- why can't a single target DAMAGE spell also net an assist? Also since ignite can now stop recalls--- I propose smite should also be able to stop recalls.

I can see it being a mistake and not having this implemented because never dealt damage to champions before. So it not doing what other spells can (stopping recall and granting assists) could be something they forgot to put it.

I can also see it as something possibly not implemented because smite is technically pretty easy to land and since its on such a low cd compared to other SS, they might have decided it wasn't "fair" to give it those abilities.

Is this the item 3706 smite, the item 3715 smite, or both? Chilling smite should, since it does damage right away. Challenging smite on the other hand does no damage until you get in an auto attack as far as I know, and therefore should not until you proc the burn.

Challenging Smite deals reduced true damage first, then allows ticks of damage.

Challenging Smite can target enemy champions, marking them for 6 seconds. Marked enemies are revealed (does not reveal stealth), take (54 + 6 × level) true damage over 3 seconds from your basic attacks and deal 20% reduced damage to you.

I read that as no doing damage until you auto attack. I don't buy it much so I have little experience on how it works out in game.

I run it on most junglers, actually. The burn is soooo nice.

I think it deals like 1 instant damage as it marks the target, but they regen the health so quickly it doesn't matter.

It definitely can't secure kills.
