Veteran Player Who Still Cannot Perform in League of Legends

Why is it that after several seasons of playing ranked to get better borders I find myself unable to play "my game" or consistently be a "competitive" member of the team. Inconsistent maybe because I didn't, and still don't, know enough about a game I've played, now, well over 30k hours. How could that be?

I got silver season 3, gold season 4-5, an ecstatic platinum in season 6, and then another platinum in season 7, and lastly a mundane platinum in season 8. I even tried to reduce my inconsistency by relying on one champion in ranked to get my lp in preseason 7 and onward. It felt great to have a goal, like getting to diamond, that was more easily accomplished. Just get better at the champion. However my champion saw a large decrease in success, and during the success my champ was banned out, I was forced to dodge for the good of the whole.

Blah-Blah-Blah and so forth. However, I have felt extra frustrated from losing an even matchup horribly. Cost my team the game, and my attitude for the night. After playing, and honestly enjoying, LoL for the better half of 30,000 hours I find myself stagnated unlike I've never been before. I regularly play with 90ms on a champ I'd prefer to have 60, and intermittent packet lose makes me question my sanity. I commit to plays I would tell myself aloud not to, and the worst part is sometimes I can play well. But when I freak out for a moment there goes my bounty and all of a sudden the game is even again or I may even be losing due to my mismanaged waves.

This is now much longer then I thought It'd be I just have a final thought. Is it REALLY just grinding games to diamond? Is there a ceiling for skill and I've hit it? Not only that but rebounded back half-way down the height of the room.

Edit: I mean personal ceiling for skill because obviously there are millions of people better then me.

LOL is a SUPER hard game to understand/master, plenty of guys playing it for the same time, still stuck in silver (Cause...well...someone will NEVER get it, usually blaming the system, the team, God...). Reaching high elo require great game understanding, a positive attitude and...some innate skills you can only train so far. For exemple, my mechanicals skills are very bad for my level; and that's enough to say that high dia will be always out of my reach. I will say this, tho: dia v is a totally different thing, you not reaching it PROBABLY means you have other issues to, like your attitude for istance (a 180 attitude change is enough ALONE to transform a toxic silver into a plat one). Being toxic or even only negative/anxious/frustrated will FUCK your performances, hardcore. Same thing for the "I Played it for years, I am plat: I KNOW IT ALL!!!!!" attitude, the best way to never improve.

TL DR: high dia may be out of your reach, dia V prolly not...with the right mindset.

Everything in your response is very helpful. Thank you for the input, and diamond V is exactly something I'd be happy with. I used to have a bad attitude when I was in gold/ fresh in plat around season 6, but due to inability to climb took a break and came back, overall, stronger mentally. However, I am prone to "flaming back" at some obnoxiously-in-my-face teammate which I have been getting a lot better at with the mute button.

I suppose I do get frustrated too easily for too anxious about my games where I'm playing my main, but I just act like that (I think) in every single pvp game from Melee to World of Warcraft. It just seems too easy to let myself down or under-perform because, like you said, league is a HARD game and I'll add it changes a lot.

It's entirely possible that since you're playing at a low level, you're not getting punished for some serious mistakes and thus think it's the right move when in reality, if you were doing that same move in say, D3+, it would NEVER work because they know how to punish it hard. That's paraphrased from an LS video and not from personal experience, so don't take that as me saying I'm better than you or something because I'm probably not.

The best course of action here is to get a mid-high diamond (or above) coach who will sit down and walk you through what you're doing right and also what you're doing wrong. Just google lolcoaching and you'll find a website with plenty of free high elo coaches - Some of which specialize by role or champion, some are more "all-around."

EDIT: Turns out the website I was thinking of merged with some other nonsense and they no longer offer freebies. :( I still say coaching is your best shot and I'm sure you can find free coaches with some web searching.

I've heard that tidbit from LS before and I agree with it, and no worries because it is not too hard to be better then me haha.

That's a great idea because I've heard about coaching for the longest time but never applied the idea to me haha, maybe because of money; I have a friend or two in high diamond who could coach me, but would it be as authentic?
