A Low Elo PLayer's Auyofil Experience (+gripes and solutions)

Before I start, let me say that most of the information from this post will be from my personal experience and those around me. I simply cannot speak for higher ranking players because I have no experience in that field of play. That being said, here are my issues with the (relatively) new autofill system.

AUTOFILL DECREASES THE COMPETITIVENESS OF RANKED PLAY: I have lost many a game due to having to play a role that I am not comfortable to play with. When a team has a player who is not competent or ready for there role, it gives a advantage to the other team. This decrease the competitiveness of the game because one team is given a handicap from the very start.

AUTOFILL INCREASES QUEUE TIMES: In an ironic twist of events, and in many cases, autofill increase your queue time due to dodgers. Many people. including myself, would rather dodge queue then play role we aren't prepared for in a ranked environment. It is now commonplace for me to go through 4-5 queues before finally finding a game. Sure not all dodges are because of autofill, but I have noticed an increase. Not to mention there is always someone complaining in champselect about how they got to support. Personally I'd rather wait the time to play a game as my roles than have to spend 25-60 minutes playing a role i neither enjoy nor are prepared to play.

SOLUTIONS? First of all, I don't think a full removal of the system is a good thing. I know that at higher rankings, the queue times can be atrocious, but at the lower ones with more players. its really not a huge deal. One thing Riot could do is revert it back to the way it was last season, where autofill only impacting higher rankings. Autofill can stay in norms, but it doesn't need to be in a ranked enviroment.

P.S. Bonus pole for fun

I honestly think that having autofill at all levels is actually for the good of the ranked environment. Before season 6 you had to be able to play every role and your skill and ability to climb was measured by your ability to play every role, not just your main roles. Encouraging players to exclusively play only one or two roles limits your game knowledge and prevents you from being a well rounded player. Also, having autofill at lower levels gives a more cohesive ranked experience because you aren't introducing new features as someone climbs the ranked ladder. Grinding hundreds of games to plat/diamond not having autofill and then suddenly being thrown into autofill scenarios would be extremely jarring and result in a very bad experience for players who hadn't played those roles in hundreds of games.

I agree with you that currently autofill does increase queue times but this phenomena only exists because autofill is a new concept for these players. After a couple months people will get used to it and dodge rates will decrease. We saw a similar thing happen when autofill was added to diamond+ games last season.

I really don't see the problem with autofill. Its not that difficult to learn one or two champions that can be played in multiple roles. If you're a top lane or jungle main there are tons of tanks from those roles that can be taken support. If you're a mid lane main then there are a ton of mages that can be taken support. And if you're an ADC main (like me) its pretty easy to find a support that you enjoy playing. The same can be said for any other role you get autofilled into. I can play every single role and have multiple backups for each role with less than 10 champions.

I had this guy in a game, looked up his profile, and came across this garbage. He got autofilled so he just inted as aatrox sup with cleanse ignite. He didn't even have the decency to tell our team he was gonna int before the game so we could dodge. Honestly I think its hilarious that he is so passionate about how autofill is hurting the community, when all he does is int when he gets autofilled. Anyway, just found this post so i could continue to report. Nice guides man, lol u think anyone actually cares about ur opinion lol.
