Why does losing 2 matches in a best of five make me unsuccessful in my series?

I was in my promos for Silver 5, which is a best of five. I won two games, then lost two games. After the second loss, it said I have been unsuccessful in my series. How does that make any sense? Why would I not get to play the fifth match?
