Placements ranking make no sense

How do I lose 8 out of 10 games and still get put in silver 4? And to top it off I'm getting unloseable games afterwards and getting +29 lp for it. How is this right? Obviously I'm not a new player but if a new player loses 8/10 games they get put in silver 4 and have massive lp gain? Either normal mmr and ranked mmr are actually based on each other or the placement system is total dogshit. There is no reason for a new player that loses so much to get put silver 4 and then have such high lp gains after. It entirely seems like the system already has a rank in mind for me with no regard to how I actually did in the promos.

I think the current system isn't great. 2 seasons ago I won 9 of 10 and it put me in bronze 2... I was so excited that I did so well in my placements... and then I was dumbfounded when I got my rank... My understanding is that it heavily weights previous ranked seasons, not sure what it is doing when someone doesn't have a previously ranked season but it seems busted.
