Save a mouse, improve right-click-holding

le2400943··76 votes·17,643 views

Most veteran players in league spam right click when playing in lane (by an average 6-7 clicks a second). It refreshes champion's pathing faster. Right-click-holding movement does not update fast enough (around once every quarter of a second), making champions movement more predictable and unresponsive to dodge.

Let's make right-click-holding competitive again, raise it to one-tenth of a second, or even bind it to League's tickrate. Let's save a mouse (or a hundred million) !

Well, i have a Cougar 700M gaming mouse. A beauty of a mouse with 5,000,000 clicks guaranteed. But yeah i like this idea, because with me, sometimes my finger hurts due to how many times i clicked. Hell, one time after a match i literally couldn't move my finger for a few minutes. Here's my upvote. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

isn't a number in the low millions standard?

I don't know...not sure what you mean exactly. But it is a good mouse nonetheless.

3TWarrior1 votes

well, why I wondered is because even some of the earliest keyboards and mouses were made to withstand large amounts, some even in the millions because for an ordinary person, it would not wear out

but with the change in the times, the standard starts to wear out quickly

Well, if you take care of your stuff, and press/click like a crazy hydraulic press power hammer, then you're going to be just fine. Honestly, i didn't get my mouse because of its clicks. It had some nice features, and it's quite comfy for my hand. Google it. Cougar 700M Gaming Mouse.

well, I can understand the sentiment. I saw a mouse once that made me really want it, but it was an absolutely crazy price for a mouse. I don't think it was even a gaming mouse, but it had an adjustable size where you could respape it and even change the arc of the grip

it was even more expensive than a gaming mouse

For such a thing to have these features? No way it's a normal mouse. Usually such customization is solely for gaming to suite your playstyle. I could be wrong.

3TWarrior1 votes

dunno but it was like $75 and I don't remember many additional features other than maybe a warranty

it didn't seem to be a gaming mouse, only a comfort one

though gaming and comfort often go together XD

This is the weirdest thing i have ever seen before... Looks like non-gaming mouse manufacturers are starting to realize that gaming mouse are for more superior or something? I don't know, i'm no conspiracy theorist.

well, the walmart website doesn't list it in their selection, so I dont' know anymore

it looked like someone had put quite a bit of time into the design to make it able to change without having to take it apart

Well i don't know how Walmart works, I'm from the Middle East. hahahaha Well, whoever did and whatever he/she did, pretty genius work. I can admit that at least.

eh, it's basically a small mall or shopping center that people have problems with because it's a corporation that can out-budget local shops and businesses, creating a near monopoly in the area unless there is an external factor affecting it...such as another superstore or chain entity

as for the mouse, yeah...all I can really remember is its appearance

So it's just a douchebag company that's dominating the other stores. Or something like that.

Well, its appearance may seem legit, but the true quality comes when you try it yourself. I've seen good looking mouses before but their performance is complete chaos. Though my mouse has a nice appearance (Cougar 700M) its performance is very good.

Would actually really appreciate this, considering how much hand strain repetitive clicks entail.

Hayaishi4 votes

Yeah this would be really good, though it might be difficult for me to adjust and i might just keep spamming right click.

Hibeki4 votes

HOTS has instant updating with right click holding. Faster than spamming. It can be done.

SpaghettiVase3 votes

Please please please Riot. I suffer from arthritis and spam clicking is hell on my knuckle joints so I hold instead of click. This often causes me to "grind" walls due to pathing trying to put me to the opposite side through different paths causing my champ to turn back and forth. Same goes for attacking, trying to walk behind or beside something can end up causing me to attack it instead of walking beside it.

GreatSirZachary2 votes

Agreed. I have been fighting with repeated strain injuries and it makes it pretty hard to play the game when your mouse hand hurts after just a few.

TempName548462 votes

there's no fucking way anyone right clicks 7 times a second in lane, your hand will literally fall off in a minute.

xxxDogmanxxx1 votes

Actually, 6-7 right-clicks per second sounds pretty normal when you're trading in lane or dodging skill shots. Obviously though, you're not clicking constantly for a full minute because sometimes you have to back off the lane, or you just finished a trade.

TempName548461 votes

you probably actually click less while trading and dodging skillshots compared to normal stutter step but do google a website to count your clicks per second and try hitting that 7 clicks a second for even 10 seconds.

xxxDogmanxxx1 votes

Here's me clicking a little over 7 clicks per second for a full minute.

https://imgur.com/OW17ZvX

EDIT: Here's me doing it even faster.

https://imgur.com/xOMtkAN

TempName548461 votes

either you are using an autoclicker or you have superhuman fingers ... or you are using moth mouse button and trackpad but normal people can't do that.

xxxDogmanxxx1 votes

Nah, no auto-clicker (actually had to look up what an auto-clicker was). I honestly don't think it was even that difficult, though? I'm pretty sure I can click faster if I really try-harded.

EDIT: This is about as fast as I can click. At this point, my finger is actually cramping up so I'm gonna stop before I hurt myself.

TempName548461 votes

i mean i can apparently go up to 9 but thats just basically vibrating your hand n shit with no sense behind it, the 500 apm meme for league isn't a meme after all considering 7 clicks a second which apparently some insane fucks do

xxxDogmanxxx1 votes

I guess its just a matter of habit. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

TempName548461 votes

i mean you actually have to try pretty fucking hard to hit 7 clicks a second so i still very highly doubt its a habit for anyone

xxxDogmanxxx1 votes

Like I said, going for seven clicks a second isn't actually that difficult in short (a few seconds at a time) bursts. In a fight or gank, I think it's easily achievable. It's just when you do it constantly for longer (a couple of minutes at a time) periods of time that it becomes difficult. We can both agree that it is unrealistic, I guess.

lHakureml2 votes

I really wanna upvote this. It's been a major problem for me ever since i started lol (1 year ago). There are several reasons I cannot spam click (The dorm has small walls and the noice from even the softest mouse can be heard when clicking 5 cps). Having a higher refreshrate means smoother movements and less tilt from slow input delays. Keep it a viable option because I know some people use the fast clicking to take out the frustration and be less tilting but for people who dont want roomates heavily complaining the clicking, A dramatic increase in refreshrate would be the best thing happening to league. Rito please listen to this!!!!

Huge nerf to skillshot champions if you could make it "analog" like that. The game is actually balanced around that speed very closely

Magic Wizard Joe3 votes

so people with impaired movement on their fingers should have to suffer the consequences of holding down the right click button because they physically can't click as quickly as others?

3TWarrior1 votes

said people are also playing a game that is devolving away from strategic decision and more to twitch-motion reflexes XD

but as people have mentioned, it would probably only be a minor change to make it easier on the mouse and the player

Jaygo411 votes

In a game that's at least pretending to have an esport, there needs to be some sort of physical motion that the game tests. Whether it's reaction time, quickness, etc. Imagine trying to say this in basketball. "So people with impaired movement in their feet should have to suffer the consequences of not being quick enough to play defense?" Yes. They should. Sorry

ZackTheWaffleMan1 votes

Not everyone plays League as a sport.

Jaygo411 votes

The competitive kids play w/ the same rules and patches as the regular kids, and because they're so intertwined, it's balanced around being competitive Whether you think so or not, this clown fiesta will start to become really un fun to watch, just like candy stops being good after you eat the whole box.

Karunamon1 votes

The competitive kids play w/ the same rules and patches as the regular kids

Except for when they get to hang back on older patches. And have games that are trashed rewound in time.

Jaygo411 votes

They're ALWAYS only 1 behind and it takes a little adjusting, but they're roughly playing a similar game and eventually they play on the patch that the regular people do. Games that are affected by bugs get rewound. Both points are non sequitors, though. The point is that the game is balanced around people being slower to click than to just drag their mouse around. Additionally, it would feel really bad given that ping is a thing. The "analog" feeling would be impaired by ping heavily and it wouldn't feel nice like in diablo 3

Magic Wizard Joe1 votes

To say this game is played as a sport is some sort of a joke that i don't even want to get into.

Imagine trying to say this in basketball. "So people with impaired movement in their feet should have to suffer the consequences of not being quick enough to play defense?" Yes. They should. Sorry

Uh.. No, they shouldn't. Sorry.

In basketball those who are movement impaired do have compensations. Many tournaments have been hosted for those with the inability to walk.

Secondly, clicking is not a skill. It feels like you're trying to sound sophisticated in some way by acknowledging the fact that there must be some sort of physical skill, and that's not the case in a virtual game. Let's pretend this is a "sports" game. (which is like saying chess is a sport granted you use a speed timer.) You're pretty much saying moving one piece to a certain location requires skill, and someone without arms isn't skilled enough to do it, and that's ultimately their own fault. No, that's not how it works, and no that is not their fault.

Clicking 10x super fast in a quarter of a second is not skill. It has nothing to do with reaction time, and therefore it shouldn't be required.

Jaygo411 votes

What do you mean it has nothing to do with reaction time? This isn't chess. In league, things happen in a split second. You don't quite appreciate it but adding a Diablo 3 kind of "analog steering" would essentially make dodging easier skillshot champions would be extremely difficult to play especially against the most slippery champions. Additionally, it might actually make scripting harder to catch, because it's probably easy to see keystrokes and things like that but might be tougher to detect cursor movements.

APM is a skill. That's a fact. It's literally a measure of actions, whether keystrokes or clicks, per minute. You want to try and tell the starcraft guys that APM isn't a skill? While admittedly they have command units and build things, they also have to MICRO and do things like kite, use special unit abilities, etc. This game has already been made so easy to play over the years, I actually think this might be making it too easy.

Magic Wizard Joe1 votes

Me tapping my mouse is NOT a skill, and I really can't believe you're trying to argue that it is. I could click a million times and I guarantee my click speed wouldn't improve at any rate. Skill requires practice, and no practice in the world will improve your constant clicking speed.

You must be confused, or just stupid, nonetheless I think I see what your problem is. You seem to be misunderstanding the difference between reaction time, and rapid clicking.

It would take the same amount of time to dodge an ability on the first click followed by 100 more clicks, as it would be to just move your cursor to the right or left respectively after 1 click. Why should you have to click 100 times to move in a certain direction exactly the way you want, when simply clicking one time should be an option to achieve the SAME THING.

There is absolutely no reason I should have to click an indefinite amount of times to make sure my character is walking exactly where I want him to be walking.

I'm almost 100% sure you're confused on what this board post is even about.

I doubt there are even that many players anymore, less people are joining league then leaving RN, and a lot of the ones that do join are quitting due to the toxic nature of low levels and they don't enjoy being bursted down in this oneshot season (I miss league of nerfs)

Simple I have made 4 new accounts and leveled them through this season, it has been the same thing every time, make a bunch of friends and watch them quit time and time. My friends list on this account is pretty much dead, anyone I add stop logging on after a while, I used to have 40-70 people online at a time, I am lucky if I have 5 people on at a time on my friends, people are not liking this season, few are liking it.
