Remove or Rework Edge of Night
Ok, I am a Yasuo main, but i also play champions like Zed, Talon, and Jax, so this post is from the prospective of and Assassin or Brawler.
On the release of Patch 6.22 I read about the newest item, Edge of Night, the break down said that it was an AD item with a bit of defense against Mages, which sounded really nice, particularly on Yasuo, Then I started reading the stats of the item. 60 AD 35 MR with two passives +20 MS out of Combat for 5 seconds, also, 15 of the new Lethality statistic, and an active spell shield which blocks the next spell against you for 10 seconds. I thought this was a pretty interesting item. The AD and the MR really wasn't that impressive because there are other, high AD items with Defensive stats. (I.e Blood Thirster, and Mercurial Scimiter, Maw of Malmortius, etc. I thought about it blocking like a Ziggs ult, a Lux ult, basically any overtuned ability. Also, I wanted to see if the movement speed and Lethality were of any real impact.
After playing a couple games I found that the AD, MR, and Lethality didn't really have that big of an impact, or any impact that I could discern at all. The movement speed buff was nice though. Then I got to testing the active and I realized that due to the 1.5 second cast time you basically can't use the active in one on one situations because it either doesn't cast in time or gets popped the moment it comes up, so that means basically the only time it can really be used is just before a team fight, then realized that there is a LOT of situations where you may cast the active and then the other team decides to pull out (Like to get baron or to pull the team fight close to their turrets) and so then you can't use the active when you actually need it because it's on cooldown. Not only that, but the few times you actually did get the active casted in time it didn't usually block big abilities, instead it usually got popped by some low damage ability like a Jhin E (which you get out of easily), or a Yasuo E.
There were changes made of the few patches that followed but they seem to have settled at the same stats at release except for Riot subtracted 5 AD and made the Active only last 5 seconds, instead of 10.
Then I did the math on the Lethality and found that attacking a target that is level 18 that has 83 armor (The median for Champions in League) you only do about 5% more of your base damage then if you just didn't have the Lethality at all.
So at the end of all of this I came to the conclusion that this is an item that is not particularly good for the AD, MR, Lethality, or the Active, and that the only buff that makes much of a difference at all is the Movement Speed out of Combat. As I said above their are other good AD items with Defensive stats, So, unless I am playing Zed or Talon (who stack Lethality) I just do not build Edge of Night.
So what am I suggesting? It's very simple. Riot should either remove Edge of Night from the game and put the Lethality back onto Maw of Malmortius, or rework Edge of Night so it actually is worth the gold it takes to get it. My suggestions for said rework would be at follows: 65 AD 55 MR 15 Lethality 20 MS and make the active a Passive (Just like Banshee's) and make it so the spell has to do a certain amount of damage or more to proc the spell shield (just say 250 Damage), and place said passive on a cooldown of about 40 seconds (again, like Banshee's).
Or, if they decide that version of the Active is too broken and don't want to rework it, at least make it so there is enough MR so you can miss a little bit and not get punished so harshly. Maybe add Negatron Cloak into the recipe and subtract the 270 gold it takes to upgrade from Null-Magic mantle to Negatron Cloak from the cost of the completed item so that the cost stays the same.
Now, what do you guys think? Am I right? Am I wrong? What would you suggest for changes if you do not like my ideas? I would love to hear from you guys. :)
