Shen is fine where he is as of the past few months. These buffs will push him over the edge and turn him into a ban priority. He never needed buff in the first place, people just needed to actually play him with his current state in mind, instead of saying "oh, Shen needs MR scaling to be good, he needs an energy reduction on Shadow Dash every level to be viable" and so on. When you focus on what a champion doesn't have, you then set yourself up for failure and increase the chance of failing to make him work. Psychology is a powerful thing.

I say these buffs are not needed at all.

I mean sure, what does a champion really "need". Does Shen "need" buffs? Depends on what you think each champion needs. A need is a necessity. Each champion needs at least:

An intuitive and fun play-style
The ability to impact the outcome of a match

To your average player, Shen does not possess #1 in the slightest. In his current state, Shen asks players to make significant play-style and mindset changes in order to make him work, but the thing is: the payoff is underwhelming when compared to other champions like Azir or Rumble. He has objectively been in a terrible place for a long time and only recent itemization changes have helped alleviate some of his problems. The fact that Riot is willing to give that guy a break in the form of some quality of life buffs speaks wonders.

I'm sorry, but playing Shen is absolutely fun and intuitive. He plays differently than other tanks in terms of his role; Instead of playing an initiator with heavy crowd control, he plays a split pushing tank who can turn a 4v4 into a 5v4, and then peel for the carries with Shadow dash (which takes a lot of concentration, map awareness, communication, and intelligence). Having players "make significant play-style and mindset changes" is NOT a bad thing. THAT'S what gives this game diversity. These changes will turn Shen into a more generalized tank compared to the rest, and he won't really be as unique anymore, because they are going to give him what all the other tanks have, in terms of defensive capabilities.

Dude, let's have a reality check. They are changing some numbers... NUMBERS. As far as we know, all they're going to do is reduce cooldowns, reduce energy costs and give him scaling MR. I fail to see how that is changing his identity at all. These are positive, helpful buffs that will allow him to perform better at whatever it is Shen wants to do. I honestly have no clue what you're trying to argue at this point.

It will probably take more than that to make him viable. But giving him Scaling MR makes sense for a melee tank. Something he lacked for quite a while.

Not actually sure what niche Shen fills though, He does not have the same level of CC as Maokai or sion has, And he does not have the AoE damage of a Bruiser tank like Garen or Mundo. What can/should he do that makes him different from other tanks?

he can save your carry's ass at the last minute, splitpush like nobody else (besides TwistedFate ) and turn fights around by taunting the enemy carry

It's a nice buff, but it's not a big change in strength. If this results in more Shen players, it's because players finally gave him a chance and realized he's not bad, not because an extra 1.25 MR per level broke him.

I would just be happy with the MR/lvl. The other buffs are kinda unnecessary. He was plenty strong before if you weren't facing an AP opponent in lane. I don't think his E or his Passive needed any buffs and this is probably just going to make him abusive, leading to possible nerfs in other places.

Then again, I can finally go without MR runes on AP Shen, so I'm happy overall.

I'm not saying that his identity is at risk. I'm saying that it makes no sense to me, in terms of diversity, to say "Hey, let's take every tank and give them the same defensive growth stats". That, to me, doesn't make sense at all. I also think that these changes to his numbers will push him over the edge, because he is perfectly fine right now.

To be serious...HE NEEDED IT. This is a little buff and i hope people are going to play him more... Or not... because I want to play him on every game... Dont pick my preciouuuusss ;(
