The Slaughter of Akali

CCG Inu XIII··18 votes·1,722 views

Before anyone says anything about: "Uhhhh but pinks don't reveal her anymore shes totally balanced now ehhhh!" let me make one thing clear:

Akali.Is.An.ASSASSIN!

What do assassins do?

Oneshotting squishies out of position then get out again.

Now take a wild guess what Akali can't do on the Pbe?

Right killing squishies fast enough to get out!

But...didn't Riot themselves state that the QoL changes should appeal Akali MAINS! and not the wide mass?

Oh yes they did...but...oh what happened? They lied...they flat out lied to us Akali Mains! They created an assassin who can't assassinate instead and took her identity as the nightmare of all squishies...at least in the right hands...!

Akali always had a hard laning phase, removing the spellvamp from her passive makes it even harder, but that's not the point...no.

Akali always was benefited with an amazing Lv 6 Powerspike, which she lost now considering that like 100 damage are missing in her combos due to the ultimate nerfs.

The passive feels clunky and makes her even more predictable than she already is, not to mention that the cooldown is stupid considering that with 500 Ap (which isn't hard to achieve as Akali) and 150 Ad (which is also not hard(Gunblade)) you gain 170 On-Hit Magic damage without cooldowns.

I already know someone is going to say: "But...but now her 2. AA deals ways more damage!!111!!"

It doesn't, you gain the same amount with the current passive at these stats after 2 AAs...........!

And...no the W changes and the invisibility do NOT justify this slaughter, especially the 4 second duration of the updated W in the early game.

I can live with the E changes tho...!

Tl:Dr

Changes suck Passive makes her feel clunky, Ultimate is just stupid with the 2 second CD and damage loss.

If these changes get through I honestly begin to become sceptic of Riots balancing for the first time...!

To clarify it for everyone:

We Akali Mains have been promised that she stays the squishy nuking nightmare she is by several statements of Riot and that this update is more for the Mains...

In short they lied directly into our faces and that is what pisses me and many others off, if we would have been told that her Passive and Ult would get destroyed entirely then we wouldn't be that pissed

No assassin should be killing in litterally .5 seconds, which is what the rework fixed. She isn't destroyed, I would think a main would get that and not judge their champion's new moves right after it came out saying it's trash. Of course she's going to be different, so get over it.

CCG Inu XIII4 votes

I played her on the Pbe and I am not the only one thinking that believe me...Pbe wise she is UP

There would be 0 issues if

A. The pattern of the passive would be changed in terms of first damage then sustain and the Ult scaling would be increased B. Passive scaling would be increased C. Cancel it?!

They took about 400 damage Midgame from her and thats just stupid honestly

LankPants2 votes

C. Cancel it?!

Definitively the best option, the passive changes just aren't good and I really doubt they can be. Even if they change the order on the passive it still deals less damage than two AAs in most cases and three in all. Buffing the passive damage risks creating the 100-0 style of assassin that Riot said they didn't want.

Akali was never killing enemies in .5 unless insanely ahead.

She instead has the stickiness to make sure an enemy dies if no one is there to provide peel and damage her.

dude. i know. im pretty sad about this "update" on akali. legit garbage rework. just got done talking to some random cuck saying he will play her more now than ever cause of the update.

so let me get this straight, people want to play even worse updated champions? Riot really fucked up this time.

So how would you react when your main which you played for ~3 Seasons straigth gets totally destroyed?

I played fiora since season 2 and she was completely changed. Got used to the rework, still enjoy her and play her a lot. Change is refreshing and good for the game. Learn to adapt. Or make good on complaints and quit I guess, more akali, fiora, etc for me.

With the small difference that Fiora was made more for the majority and for Akali it was stated that the update should appeal the Mains and not the casuals...also if I am unable to kill a 0/0/0 Tf without Mr at Lv 9 even lane with Revolver in 2 Rotas, then something is terribly wrong with Akali...believe me

If the numbers are off they will be balanced out later. The important thing here is the mechanical changes such as pink ward protection and the short untargetted dash. The number changes aren't relevant in the big picture as they will be adjusted as time goes on to fix her winrate if it's out of wack.

Vistha Kai3 votes

You should've seen it coming with how toxic her play pattern was.

At least now your main may become somewhat fun to play against, instead of being a cancer that needs to be put down in less than a half a second and otherwise forcing people to always have a pink ward slot even at 60th minute, just because you picked your beloved main.

LankPants5 votes

Plays Yasou, Zed and Darius and calls other champs cancer. OK man, live in your fantasy world, that's fine.

Zetto3 votes

Well. Design wise all of those champions are still more well designed than pre-rework akali. Darius loses to anything with range, yasuo still has a lot of different ways to fuck up, and zed still requires you to have decent mechanics. And even then he didn't say anything about them not being cancer. And even then just cause one champ is cancer doesn't mean you cant complain about another champ being cancer.

Akali was quite literally put your mouse on someone and button mash.

LankPants6 votes

Darius loses to anything with range

Akali does too, just try to lane into a Kennen as Akali.

yasuo still has a lot of different ways to fuck up

And a lot of ways to fix his fuckups. If you make the same fuckups as most other champs you just die for it.

I'd advise you actually go into a game, use that strategy and tell me how it works.

Akali also has a dash that solves her problems against ranged champions post-6. Darius doesn't.

Ok. Regardless of that he still has ways to fuck up. The only real way to fuck up with akali is to ult in on a bad situation without an easy way to ult out. Yas has multiple skillshots, one of which is about as thin as mundo's cleaver, as well as mobility that is dependent on the enemy's minons, on a lockout for enemy champs and minions.

I'd advise you actually go into a game, use that strategy and tell me how it works.

I have, it worked, I got fed, I carried. overall? kinda fun in the sense that I started stomping on anyone squishy but still pretty stupid. You have generally one combo, with damage abilities that are either targeted abilities or an AOE damage.

LankPants3 votes

Akali also has a dash that solves her problems against ranged champions post-6. Darius doesn't.

And Darius has an actual mid range spell which does real damage to help him pre 6, durability and a hook. Akali trades a huge amount of other power for that dash.

Ok. Regardless of that he still has ways to fuck up. The only real way to fuck up with akali is to ult in on a bad situation without an easy way to ult out.

The only way to fuck up as any champ is to put yourself into a bad situation. As it turns out you don't randomly magically teleport into the middle of 5 enemy champions every few games.

Yas has multiple skillshots, one of which is about as thin as mundo's cleaver,

Yas has one skillshot, which you can make not a skillshot with another ability and which has a CD so short that people throw it out at random in cases where it has almost no chance to hit because there's really no cost for doing so.

If you're going to argue that Yas's Windwall is a skillshot I'd respond with this

http://plays.tv/video/5749cfbfc10d151ee9/someone-needs-to-fix-that-hitbox

as well as mobility that is dependent on the enemy's minons,

I'll let you work out why that argument is super weak in this situation.

on a lockout for enemy champs and minions.

He can still dash far more than Akali in any situation where the enemy team isn't feeding her kills through a funnel.

Pre-6. she trades a disadvantage that she has in the early game for a damning solution post-6. Darius's hook, and as a result his entire kit, is only effective if he can actually get in range, which he struggles with all game, instead of just pre-6.

The only way to fuck up as any champ is to put yourself into a bad situation. As it turns out you don't randomly magically teleport into the middle of 5 enemy champions every few games.

That's just entirely wrong. You miss skillshots, you don't see/don't notice things, among other kinds of mistakes. Akali doesn't have these issues to nearly the extent of many other champions as not only does she have her ult to dash in order to reposition, which doesn't have a lockout for units you've already used it on, but also has her W to wait out the ult CD which she can use to dash away, which also happens to have a decently large range, on top of a MS boost from her W.

Yas has one skillshot, which you can make not a skillshot with another ability and which has a CD so short that people throw it out at random in cases where it has almost no chance to hit because there's really no cost for doing so.

Yas has two, technically three, but to be honest, no, I don't count windwall. His Q is a short range skillshot that's about the thinnest in the game. It's easy to miss one or two. The CD doesn't get that ridiculous till he starts picking up items, as it doesn't change with rank. At rank one you're looking at a 4 second CD. Akali's Q aint far off with a 6 second CD at rank 1. Her Q is also targeted.

If you're going to argue that Yas's Windwall is a skillshot I'd respond with this

see above. We all know his windwall is buggy as shit. Good to know we at least agree on something.

I'll let you work out why that argument is super weak in this situation.

they can both dash via minions. Pretty sure that was obvious but if I didn't say it, my bad I guess. Yas's are still a lot easier to fuck up with considering the range difference as well as the lockout.

He can still dash far more than Akali in any situation where the enemy team isn't feeding her kills through a funnel.

Akali's dash has a longer range and no lockout, giving her greater mobility in more cases. Yasuo's dash becomes almost useless going into the jungle, akali's doesn't.

LankPants2 votes

That's just entirely wrong. You miss skillshots, you position incorrectly, among others.

Firstly, being out of position IS putting yourself in a bad situation. If you don't do that you don't get punished for missing skillshots. It's a net neutral trade (minus mana costs) if you miss a skillshot while in position because it's very hard to punish champs playing in position. I mean sure, if you miss an Ashe ult or something you can get punished off of it, but often only by pressure. You can't pressure punish a two second CD.

Akali doesn't have these issues to nearly the extent of many other champions as not only does she have her ult to dash in order to reposition, which doesn't have a lockout for units you've already used it on,

Yes, if she didn't she'd be utter garbage. That's still not reliable however because we're talking about a glass cannon who's method of escape is jump at another champion.

but also has her W to wait out the ult CD which she can use to dash away, which also happens to have a decently large range, on top of a MS boost from her W.

At least at current that never works, because pink wards are a thing. If the Akali changes go through in there current state you probably won't ever have to worry about this again however.

Yas has two, technically three, but to be honest, no, I don't count windwall. His Q is a short range skillshot that's about the thinnest in the game. It's easy to miss one or two.

Yasou has one skillshot which behaves slightly differently depending on how many stacks he has. It's still the same ability, it shares a CD and does basically the same thing+some additional bonuses.

At rank one you're looking at a 4 second CD. Akali's Q aint far off with a 6 second CD at rank 1. Her Q is also targeted.

Akali's Q does 35 damage before MR when used as a ranged ability. Not even just at level one, until level 8 since it's far better to max E so you can actually kill a wave. When Akali Qs you for 15 damage, do you actually care?

Yas's are still a lot easier to fuck up with considering the range difference as well as the lockout.

I don't understand your logic here, Akali commits far more than Yasou when she dashes onto a creep, she can't just dash back through another next to it. The way how melee creeps line up means that Yas can almost always dash back, Akali needs to actually catch you in the casters to be able to dash back, and she gives up about a minutes worth of CD for it, Yas gives at most 8 seconds.

Akali's dash has a longer range and no lockout, giving her greater mobility within a certain area. Yasuo's dash becomes almost useless going into the jungle, akali's doesn't.

Yas can dash over many walls in the jungle, his dash is far from useless there. This is an old as hell video but it still all works. You'll see pretty quickly that Yas can do almost every wall dash Akali can, and several she can't.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDtjR7MTLHo

Akali also generally has less mobility in a single area since there's at least 6 creeps per wave and unlike Yas she has an actual lockout between dashes. She also has less options since Yas's dash is fixed distance, meaning unlike Akali he can dash a long way through a creep. Finally repeated dashes onto the same unit can be useful, but it's not worth the raw number of dashes and the speed at which Yasou can dash.

No, those really aren't the same. Being out of position means you weren't where you're supposed to be, while generally with akali, you'll still want to ult in, just at the right time. If you ult in at the wrong time, you just fuck yourself, but its not because you were positioned poorly, like it would be if you stood in the wrong place as the ADC or the squishy immobile mage. Also, yeah, you are punished for not landing skillshots. its called dying. Xerath, elise, ziggs, morgana, lux, and plenty of other champions end up paying serious prices for missing skillshots . It's entirely possible to correctly position and still miss skillshots via human error.

Also, until yas gets his fourth non-boot item his Q is still gonna be on a 3 second CD, as with most yasuos I've seen, the general build looks something like item 3046 into item 3022 or item 3031 , after which the item not gotten second is gotten third.

Yes, if she didn't she'd be utter garbage. That's still not reliable however because we're talking about a glass cannon who's method of escape is jump at another champion.

or minion. or monster.

At least at current that never works, because pink wards are a thing. If the Akali changes go through in there current state you probably won't ever have to worry about this again however.

Very true, though it's still always possible that you've either hit late game, and thus no one has room for a pink, or you could just be fighting someone on the enemy team who usually wont take a pink, like the top laner. To be fair though, this is more situational than anything.

Yasou has one skillshot which behaves slightly differently depending on how many stacks he has. It's still the same ability, it shares a CD and does basically the same thing+some additional bonuses.

This is just where we plain old disagree. I count it as two different skillshots due to the nature of how they both work, their differences in both hitbox, range, and damage. You don't want to do the same? fair enough, but at this point I really don't think either of us is gonna be able to persuade eachother to change our minds.

Akali's Q does 35 damage before MR when used as a ranged ability. Not even just at level one, until level 8 since it's far better to max E so you can actually kill a wave. When Akali Qs you for 15 damage, do you actually care?

yes, as it's still damage, which has a higher range, and is a targeted ability.

I mean, yasuo cant always just dash back through minions. His dash is limited on an angle that sometimes puts him in either positions where he cant just dash back through another minion due to where it might put him, or a position where hes just too far from any other minions. And while yes, akali might sacrifice CDs for her more versatile, longer range, higher-damage dealing dash, she still gets more out of it when using it on an enemy champion, even if she uses the second charge to make a quick escape.

Yas can dash over many walls in the jungle, his dash is far from useless there.

Admittedly yas has some very interesting and useful wall dashes in the jungle, those are still very situational, and depending on route taken are next to useless. I would also note that akali does have a sliiiiiight advantage regarding dash utility in the jungle, as her W can provide sight of monsters to enable her ult, while yas only has the trinket/pinks

A lockout of 2/1/.5 seconds. its a little large early game but late game it might as well not be there. Also, I mean, same number of creeps = same number of targets, so im not sure what you're going with that. Regarding the multiple dashes on the same enemy, I mean in terms of sheer damage that's just plain wrong. maneuverability maybe, but damage wise there's no comparison. Not to mention of course the larger range on her ult.

Vistha Kai1 votes

while yas only has the trinket/pinks

Actually that's incorrect. Windwall provides vision in a limited radius around it, but it is so limited, in fact it has to basically touch something to reveal it.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Yes, if she didn't she'd be utter garbage. That's still not reliable however because we're talking about a glass cannon who's method of escape is jump at another champion.

She's a glass cannon that builds bruiser by default and ends us being a drain tank on top of that.

Akali's Q does 35 damage before MR when used as a ranged ability. Not even just at level one, until level 8 since it's far better to max E so you can actually kill a wave. When Akali Qs you for 15 damage, do you actually care?

Again it's an ability which can't not hit unless you are Fizz or Vlad. It's 35 damage the enemy can't mitigate.

Yas can dash over many walls in the jungle, his dash is far from useless there. This is an old as hell video but it still all works. You'll see pretty quickly that Yas can do almost every wall dash Akali can, and several she can't.

Yes, he can at the expense of a ward which are terrible or his best defensive spell which has a very low vision radius. Dashing though jungle camps with Yasuo requires extremely precise aiming, else he lands face-first into the wall he tried to cross.

Akali has her shroud which has longer range, better vision radius and she can't fail the dash once she sees the target.

In short Yasuo can dash both ways, but it isn't reliable, when Akali can dash only one way, but with 99.9% success rate.

Vistha Kai1 votes

And Darius has an actual mid range spell which does real damage to help him pre 6, durability and a hook. Akali trades a huge amount of other power for that dash.

Which he has to pay mana for, which can be dodged entirely or have the damage significantly lowered, which has a decent delay and pushes the lane setting Darius for a free gank.

Akali can spam her targetted ranged Q non-stop.

The only way to fuck up as any champ is to put yourself into a bad situation. As it turns out you don't randomly magically teleport into the middle of 5 enemy champions every few games.

Some champions can fail in more than one way. Akali isn't one of those champions.

If you're going to argue that Yas's Windwall is a skillshot I'd respond with this

Even if Windwall's hitbox was half as thick, it'd still negate Sejuani's ult.

I'll let you work out why that argument is super weak in this situation.

Splendid rebuttal.

He can still dash far more than Akali in any situation where the enemy team isn't feeding her kills through a funnel.

Akali can dash 3 times + resets regardless of the number of targets. Yasuo can dash only once in a 1v1 situation and more than once, if the enemy is in a bad position.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Akali does too, just try to lane into a Kennen as Akali.

She only does until level 6 at which point 90% of her counters are invalidated.

And a lot of ways to fix his fuckups. If you make the same fuckups as most other champs you just die for it.

Yeah, because one misplaced dash doesn't result in Yasuo dying. Yup, it completely never happens.

I'd advise you actually go into a game, use that strategy and tell me how it works.

In Season 5 I had like 3 games where I trolled with Akali, built 5 Zeals and boots and still outdamaged and killed 10/2-tier fed ADCs. Those were Plat 1-tier games.

Vistha Kai1 votes

You speak about my fantasy world, but you are the one daydreaming here.

I played Yasuo quite often, but in Season 3 and 4. I consider him troll-pick weak and only play him when I disregard the fact I'm most likely going to lose doing so. Whole 15 games in the Season 6.

I only play Darius when I get top (which is like <20% of my games), if he isn't banned and if the enemy top laner didn't pick a champion that hard counters me. Whole 21 games in the Season 6.

In the last 2 months I played Zed only once. Whole 18 games in the Season 6.

For comparison I have 102 games with my main and 58 games with my sub-main.

I'm such a filthy Yasuo/Darius/Zed player, eh?

Not really, before, even if she was behind, she would chase down enemies and burst them down before they have time to react. Bursting people in less than a second before the person you killed knew what happened is unhealthy for the game, and that's why she was reworked. She doesn't punish bad positioning, she's already extremely good at chasing.

Vistha Kai4 votes

People remained silent about Akali solely because she was underplayed.

LankPants3 votes

OK, let's think about what Riot's changes would do if Akali's numbers weren't garbage. Passive Burst up, Sustained damage down, E burst up, sustained damage down. These changes, with the numbers being not shit would create the sort of assassin that Riot said they want to move away from.

Zetto2 votes

and thus, shit numbers.

Beautiful how that works out.

O Fallen Scholar3 votes

Pretty hard to balance Akali to be honest. Her kit is straightforward and point and click style (a bit of old design of sorts). I see why Riot is careful with these changes.

This isn't an update, it's a gut.

Remember when people used to say "so and so champion got olaf'ed?"

Now we'll be saying they got Akali'd.

I say none of the changes to her should go through. Ult is just an outright nerf. W blink prevents her from placing her shroud on top of herself and is nerfed in duration. Passive is just a gimmick and killed off her identity. E change is meh, a little less waveclear.

With the changes nothing but tank akali will be viable.

yeah, it's so sad that she actually needs skills to work, you know... q rrr was a really hard combo and know it doesn't work anymore... too bad they gave her counterplay, you know... it's bad game design when you can do something to avoid dying from a basic combo that involves only 2 abilities...

Counter play lol, good one. Good luck getting a single kill as Akali now.

You can't convince me 3 dashes without cooldown that refresh on assist or kill are healthy gameplay.
