Is Hextech Crafting worth it?

Hey everyone, I'm not sure if there is a post similar to mine or if this is in the right place but if I'm wrong is then i'm sorry, just point me to the right direction.

Alright, I'm sort of a new player to League. I joined mid January this year and I absolutely love the game. I finally reached level 30 and yes although I'm happy I reached lvl 30, I kinda hoped I didn't ( now I have to face much more experienced lvl 30 players). Anyways I don't have that many champions, just got 8 of my own and i would love to try more and more new people.

Now buying champions with IP takes forever and the fastest way to buy them would be through RP and whats better than using Hextech, right? For a guy like me, who's never bought RP, I'm kinda afraid to spend real money in a game. So I'm wondering if it worth it to buy a 1950 RP Hextech bundle and get Champion and skin shards? Of-course I have to disenchant some champion shards to get blue essence (i have 0 blue).

And since we are in the topic of Hextech crafting, I want to know, if we "Activate" (rental for 7 days) a shard, can we still get to keep the champion or the skin after the 7 days or is gone away forever?

Thanks alot! MonkeyKing

it'll be a waste of money, just keep playing

Rent for 7 days destroys the shard.

If there are specific champs that interest you buy them. If you have 0 clue and want whatever I guess you can go for the bundle but keep in mind there will be a bunch of skin shards and ward/icons in there too.

Personally I buy champs with ip and spend rp on skins. I find people tend to have more fun if they own a few champs they play well rather than a lot they use a couple times each.

Once you activate a rental, it's gone. Also, Hextech is awful, use the free keys and crates you get from playing, never spend money on it. 9/10 you're going to open up a skin you don't want for a champion you don't have, the other 1/10 times you'll get a champion shard that costs about 2 other champion shards to activate, and you might not even want that champ.

Honestly, I'd just save up the IP, buy a champ you really enjoyed playing during free week. As for spending RP on this game, I have for skins for champs I really like, etc. I also enjoy playing solo, and this season Riot has put in far more "features" that punish playing solo, so I'm really regretting spending that money. If you're not super competitive/not interested in playing, then no problem. But if you want to climb ranked and play solo competitively, just keep in mind where riot is heading and really think about if that's worth it to you.

Don't spend money on hextech, the value per RP spent is terrible, only use the chests and keys you acquire naturally.

Using a skin or champion rental "spends" the shard meaning that it will be permanently removed from your inventory.

I strongly recommend buying champions mostly with IP. You really don't need to unlock them any faster than you would through this system since you will learn most of the basics of the game faster when you are sticking to a few champions you know well instead of jumping around between a ton of champions without really getting good with any of them. Playing a little and getting your first win of the day every day allows you to afford all the 450 tier champions in about two weeks and then about 1x 1350 champ per week afterwards.

Hextech crafting is a reward system designed to give free stuff over a long period of time. While you can buy the crates and keys themselves I personally advise not doing so as it is a massive waste of money. The chests are randomized and your likely to get lots of loot you can neither redeem or use like skin shards for champs you don't own and what not. I only buy chests when I have 200 rp as there is nothing else to really spend it on.

As for acquiring champs, the ideal solution would be to earn them with ip. It gives you more experience with the game so that when you inevitably dive into ranked you are familiar with a large selection of the champions, even if you don't own most of them.

That said, if you REALLY want champions now and aren't deterred by buying them with cash, i'd suggest buying the champs that go on sale. The sale rotation changes every week and the prices are always chopped in half. Buying a new champ would cost 10 bucks compared to the 5 when on sale. And if you are down with it buy the champion's bundle or the digital collector's bundle which give 20 champs each and is a better deal then buying them individually. Just check them for champs you already own. The bundle doesn't get cheaper even if you own every champ in it.

As for rental, no. Activating the rental consumes the shard.

All the comments so far disapproves of spending money on Hextech crafting.. to be honest I am kinda shocked but you guys explained it really well.. thank you all <3 The only reason Hextech seemed so appealing is because of all these Youtubers who open chests and get super cool champs. it's very tempting ..

Anyways, thank you all for helping me out :)
