Dear Riot, why do I get matched with the same people again, after I reported them ?

Title. Reported someone for flaming and trolling. Got straight matched with the same person again and I had to dodge. I am really angry right now -.-

Riot has always had the same answer for this - it's because of ranked matches. At any level below Diamond, there are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of players. But when you get into the higher ranks, there are only a few thousand, with only a few hundred on at once, possibly.

If you let players not play with people they reported, it would be possible to manipulate match making with reporting in order to only play versus players who you felt were favorable matches for whatever reason. Moreover, if everyone did this it would rapidly become nearly impossible for the matchmaker to work.

I'm not defending this, mind you, but if you look at it in this way, it is logical. It still stinks. Hopefully this new 'low priority queue' for people with a record of negative behavior with begin to help with such things.

Or not.

He dodged what is the difference It should be an option this idea of blocking match ups with others would in fact weed out overly toxic players maybe they could find a balance of if multiple players have one person blocked.

Everyone is so Into the higher elo ranked Very small percentage of players while millions deal with total bull from toxic players having no punishment system worth a dam. They have to give tools / power to the good citizens to stop the bad ones. The way it works now is the exploiters and toxic always ALWAYS have the upper hand. This would work two ways also If someone blocks many players for no reason they will get into less games per hour and their elo will go down over time there is no instant answer period,Yet at least a block list would over time average out and actually possibly if done right not be as exploitable as dodging is.

b/c riot caters to a specific 1000 people instead of the other 100+million?

thats what i got from it

couldnt you say the same exact thing with dodging ques?

Not really. Dodging a queue penalizes you, and only you. You can't queue for a while and you lose League points. Riot's point is that it messes with their matchmaking, making it take longer to match people, and the higher up in ELO it goes, the worse it becomes. Like it or not, Riot makes a ridiculous amount of money off of the LCS, and higher ranked players players in general get heard more and are in general more important to their game's success than Bronze, Silver, and Gold players. There are literally millions of them - they're a dime a dozen. Riot will never say that, of course, but it's obvious in many of their decisions.

Again, like I said originally, I'm not really defending it. I HATE the idea of playing again with a feeder or AFKer or even just a particularly annoying troll/jerk. All I'm saying is this is what Riot has said is the reason why they don't allow player /ignores to affect matchmaking.

sounds like more excuses to not alienate people from the ranked community who are trash/assholes

I can understand it still matching you verses whoever, but I disagree with being teamed up with someone whom I've reported or muted. Take muting for example, I got into a game a couple weeks back and played through the entire match not hearing a single word from our top laner (even though our adc was telling him/her to be quiet), then in the post game lobby, I find that I had this teammate blocked from a long time back.

you should probably take a break before queuing up again then. if you are around the same mmr you'll obviously increase the chance of queing up with them again especially since your games ended at the same time.

This. It does not matter what elo you are, if you immediately queue up after playing with someone whether he was good or toxic, there is a good chance you will get them again. I experienced this quite abit in low elo.

Because if it worked that way, you could just report anybody you don't actually feel like playing against. Your best bet is to take a short break after a game with/against people you'd rather not be matched with again. Chances are that they jumped right back into the queue. Walk away for a couple minutes and come back, and they'll probably already be in their next game.

Not necessarily if i report someone for saying gg at 5 mins in and they afk and i join another match only to have that same quitter of a person how is that fair to me. same thing with toxic people such as people that i get all the time saying "This fool has downsyndrome" or "this guy is cancerous as fuck" i dont want them in a match with me.

Zielmann2 votes

Zanathax's comment above explains what I meant in a little more detail. For the bulk of the players it doesn't matter quite as much, but when you reach the top levels, where you're playing with a lot of the same people over and over again, you could pick and choose certain people you don't want to see in game just by sending one report at them for absolutely nothing. In theory, the top Challenger player could potentially report every other challenger player so they never actually play with those people. They could even take out a good chunk of the top level of the diamond tier as well, and basically force themselves into mismatched games.

And yes, you always have the option to take a break for a few minutes between games to let those players cycle out first.

My idea was the system would try to not match you with that person again, but still would if need be. This really wouldn't effect anyone below diamond where there's plenty of other player to match with, but in higher levels it would be harder to abuse the system as much as you described. Another thought I had was a report only stops someone from being in your next game, because in low elos there isnt a huge chance you'll ever see someone again after that, and higher elos would have a harder time manipulating the system. Obviously this is still open for abuse, but its something. It could even be disabled in higher elo's until a better system was put in place.

Honestly if it allows you to play against what you consider favorable opponents and those favorable opponents lose then those "favorable opponents" shouldn't be in your league to begin with...

Just my two cents...

Maybe reset it at each rank We will never truly know the good and bad outcomes of something like with without trying it. People already manipulate who they play against. Why would an attempt to have players self aggregate into groups they actually get along with be a bad thing. In life it is not always the very most talented that are the winners it is an aggregate of talent and attitude that overall matters. Take a look at what the community did to like ATHENE he abused the system became known to and now where is he GONE. A system like this might just make that process more effective.Sure it might have to be backed up by a special board of communication but since for some reason (I cannot understand) The tribunal is a non existent pipe dream and we have a script or two that has zero learning capacity managing player behavior the community will increasingly suffer. I have a feeling this game will die out within 2 years the way it is being out done by Valve.

(This was out of ranked btw) Blocked a player, next match put me in the same team as him. Top notch, just top notch.

I remember some guy unfriended me like 2 years ago then we meet again in the same match like a year later and he friended me again.

Dotajuana2 votes

ya i really hate that too, just further proof they use a prisoner's island matchmaking system

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

that sucks, it shouldn't happen

Arveanor2 votes

Yes it should.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

why, so the trolls can ruin two games for you?

Arveanor1 votes

You really can't see a reason why a report shouldn't correlate to someone not being in your next game?

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

i really can't see a reason why you should be forced into a game with someone who was abusive to you in your previous game.

Arveanor1 votes

Because they can't just let matchmaking be directly influenced by reports, and in theory, the result of any report should be absolutely nothing until that person is actually punished.

Obviously you might not want to play with someone who's been a problem in the past, but you probably are going to run into plenty of other people you dont like playing with, so just get through the game and try to let the system do its job. (punishing people, not putting you with your preferred team).

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

yes they can, they already let matchmaking be influenced by who you have honored and befriended in the past, why shouldn't it be influenced by reports?

58304318_DEL1 votes

Just wait several minutes and then play the next match again, you will rapidly lower the odds of playing with or against him again... Although I was fascinated once that I got matched again with a dude for the third time after a 30 min break, (twice in a row, then after a break for the third time) it was hilarious! And it was in normal too! :D

Akumu1 votes

Its obvious, so you can report them again.

King Mugiwara1 votes

Had same thing happen quite some times in past, actually yesterday too ^_^

Arveanor1 votes

You really don't get it?

Apathe1 votes

i may be wrong but i thought that reporting someone didn't do anything but just report them to tribunal. also, i though tthat ignoring someone will prevent them from being matched to your team in a game in the future, not necessarily fromt he the game you're in, just not on same team. any thoughts??

McDerp1 votes

I personally don't mind it. it gives you the opportunity to report them if you didn't do so last game, or report them twice in a row if they're being rude both times.Kayle

bumbertyr1 votes

i once got the same person on my team who i reported 4 times in a row, i even waited 20 minutes before starting the 4th game to avoid him.

SticklerMac1 votes

"That guy really stomped me, I don't want to ever have to play against him again!" - Block "Omfg that guy was such a noob, I never want him on my team again!" - Block

Then there's the fact that with people blocking each other all over, the matchmaking algorithm has trouble finding matches, so it has to broaden the search criteria, leading to more unbalanced matches overall, for everybody.

Sorry, but being able to handpick who you do/don't want to play games with would cause more problems than solutions overall.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

with 27 million players daily you will never block a significant fraction of them. the matchmaking queue will have no problem finding you a game. well no more of a problem than it already does...

IceMageAK1 votes

Yeah - This is ridiculous, I've just told you, "Hey! I love this game and all, but I don't ever want to play WITH these people again, ya know." I wouldn't even mind if those people I report ARE on the other team, in fact, I'd usually prefer it that way, and believe the system should actually try to do just that (rivals and nemesis would form).

But seriously, I just got matched with 3/4 people from my last game (i'm the 5th if you're counting). That means that only one person is new to the team that just threw away a game. Two of those people I reported for "Unskilled Player," which I'm now totally convinced does nothing but make the user feel better about themselves (probably not entirely a bad thing that it does nothing).

I think it could easily be solved by marking players that you were teamed with last round as a different color indicator on the match available popup, such that a player could see that the particular match has a number of players he has just recently played with in the past 24 hours. If the player has been having problems with getting good match-ups, he may opt to decline the match for one with more unique players that he has not encountered recently.
