Anivia 6.9. A sad story

Hello.

Is anyone planning on fixing Anivia after 6.9? Or does everyone think this is an ok change.

I have mained Anivia for the past few years, and have always loved her burst potential and zoning capabilities. Now she feels utterly useless (It can’t just be me).

First of her AA "advantage" has slowly been removed, this has in my opinion weakened her early game significantly. Her early game was largely depending on the low AA projectile speed to be able to return poke from more aggressive champions without getting minion agro (at the price of harder last hitting). I do not know if this gradual change is intended to help people last hit, or just to remove her unique AA mechanics.

Her late game damage was focused on the burst from the E+R combo, while the Q E was unreliable outside team fights due to the influx of high mobility champions. The R was also used to zone out enemies from objectives, but as it’s removed by hard CC it would never stay up long. Now it seems someone expects it to be up for over 3 seconds… I do not see this happening in a world where Vi exists.

The E+R combo has now also become useless due to the reduction of effective range one might trigger the frost effect E as well as the size reduction. It is now a lot harder to hit champions with even small dashes (or even Hexteck protobelt -01). This is as good players will simply use their dash in a random direction as the E projectile approaches. The result is a mana hungry and slow champion with no reliable burst or sustained damage.

I feel my favorite champion is dead. All the skins I’ve purchased useless. I hope I am not alone in this.

Hoping for a response Krestjan.

I honestly didn't know what they did to Anivia, and only recently knew she got changed. I have also never played Anivia. But I do feel for you, and I hope we eventually hear something from riot about their planned direction with Anivia and it sounds like she should get something to help her.

So you are sad you can't press E on people while dropping R under them anymore? Because that was really balanced in lane.

I am sad all her tools for sustained and reliable burst has been removed. The only thing left as an offensive tool is her Q. Everything else has been phased out. One spell does not a champion make.

She is still at a decent winrate (49%) and already has buffs to her ult on the PBE. Unlike Jax who is at a 45% winrate with 0 buffs.

She is. This will fall when people understand how to evade the R. They know where it will be used, and when (as indicated by the e projectile). As it is now it is easely, and maybe intentionaly outplayable.

What changes are happening?

Anivia

Glacial Storm (R)
Cast range increased to 750 from 685.

So the effective range gets closer to the one pre nerf.

The hourglass is a nice detail, but its still based on the premisse that a teamfight will happen in a very confined space.

It seems that making her weak to dives werent good enough. They want all of her kit dogeable without touching cdns or sustain.

This wont change her issues.

You can R into E still pretty easily...and anyways it was very toxic in lane

Anyone who knows what they are doing will use a small dash to make hitting the R in the (very small) window before the e hits impossible.

Not every champion has a small dash.

Krestjan3 votes

Everyone can. The propelter belt is more than sufficiant.

Not every champion has a dash or builds protobelt.

Not everyone builds hourglass.. unless they face a zed. A midlaner which kit is strongest versus the immobile suport wont see much play.

Well obviously she is weakner now than before the rework but to be fair she was really strong. Riot probably intended it to be a nerf, it probably just feels bad because she hasn't been changed for so long and every Anivia player is used to her previous power. There are still immobile champs being played though, she is still very good vs them.

What annoy me here is that apparently it isn’t that obvious. Some even think it’s a buff... (Which is just silly).

Not really true, but it has all been very gradual. She did get nerfed in the previous patch. The R chill got reduced to 1 sec. This means an R + E comboed player can simply flash or jump. This made the frost effect fall off before the projectile hit, and is why they now increased the E projectile speed.

My goal with this post is not to complain, or get a buff.... it is to make people understand how devastating these "small changes" are. On paper it looks pretty minor, but in game her effective burst (per E cd) is halved. Especially versus competent players.

To some she might have seemed “OP”, but as with most champions it’s because people don’t understand her kit. She was already unviable competitively due to mobility and mana issues. I don’t even know how they could fix her... all I know is that right now she is unplayable given the opponent has any idea how she works.

Well yeah I agree she got nerfed by a fair amount...thats pretty obvious.

Point remains she was very strong though and a great pick at S5 worlds so the argument she wasnt playable in competitive is just false homie.

Well, remembering that is before the two last nerf rounds i get your point. (It should be noticed that [as far as i know] that was only xPeke after a period of scriming agains Froggen). Did anyone else play her? The Froggen vs Faker 1v1 doesn't count.

My point is that for players who know her kit well this was devistating. A numbers change i can handle (and have in the past), but this is so to the core of her kit that the effective ressult is simply too devistating. She is now designed to be outplayed.

Thats why the E is faster..

No. It is not.

The E speed was increased to counter the prevuis R nerf where the frost effect was reduced to 1 sec. This countered that people could flash out of the R and the frost effect falling off before the E hit.

This does very little to counter (at this point) the size of the R, and how you can dodge it.

Her Q does nothing of the damage it used to. At rank 4 in the new patch it is now the same base damage as the rank 1 in the previous patch D:
