Gonna start by saying I'm a plat 5 panth top main. Been playing at him top lane for a couple of years now. Assassin is the only way to build him, relying on good positioning to keep out of danger. Glass canon is the only way for him to not fall off in damage unfortunately. His kit isn't one to boast about survival, don't know why people bother tanking with him.
I don't understand why no one is playing Pantheon right now. In the current meta, this dude is hilariously sleeper OP. Keep in mind this is for people that play Panth like the fucking Assassin that he is. None of this pussy tank shit. Here are a few reasons why you should stop doing what you are doing and start picking Pantheon, RIGHT NOW!
His mana costs aren't low. 45 mana on a low damage spammable Q is bloody expensive. His E level 1 does less damage than an AA. Compared to other champions that have a lot of free damage in their kit for a fraction of the resource cost, pantheon is difficult to mana sustain top lane.
People seem to be under the impression that his spears destroy people in lane and that he can dominate people, which is true. But by the time a pantheon gets his opponent low from spear shots alone, he would have needed a couple of mana pots and would still be oom. Compare that to riven with similar cooldowns, more base and scaling damage, ad scaling shield dash for survival, ad scaling stun because rito, and resourceless. Pantheon isn't a very attractive pick.
- Early game dominance is very important right now. Most of these games don't even last long enough for you to /surrender. Pantheon is the king of early game!
That he is, but a very mana hungry champion. The removal of crystalline and mana pots but panth (and even talon) in a rough spot. They don't have the kill potential of other Assassins because of their lack of damage, scaling, and heavy resource costs.
- AD and CDR is more plentiful then ever. Oh, what's that? Pantheon is a mother fucking AD caster!?
There's less access to CDR early game without fully building items. Brutalizer is gone, forcing you between either CDR or armor pen as a first choice ad item, 5% CDR mastery is all the way down cunning (not a problem for people with that tree), and cooldown boots are down to 10%. Takes more items to reach max cooldown than it did before.
-
He can go BOTH top or mid! On top of that he counters the popular AD mid picks (Zed, Yasuo, etc) .
-
With much easier access to CDR, Pantheon can be mother fuckin everywhere! You can take tele for even more presence or can take ignite because, fuck it, you already have a 1 minute teleport!
His ult is over 120 seconds at level one with cooldown items. Investing too hard in cooldown early game will see your damage fall of for mid game.
- They added items that give SPELL VAMP to AD!!! This makes him a even stronger duelist!!
If only his abilities were bugged (or intentional) like Akali where he could burst heal a chunk of his health with one aoe ability. I tried this on a full damage build, spear shot didn't even heal 50 hp on a 400+ AD build. Compare to Akali who heals more than that at low level with 1 item using a single aoe ability (33%effectiveness for everyone but her).
Unfortunately that item isn't anything to keep panth alive with.
-
Farsight stone has made is even EASIER to catch people with your ult in jungle.
-
He's the kind of guy you can take a long sword and 3 health pots and not have to b for quite some time. His mana costs are relatively low.
The long sword start necessitated mana potions to sustain his pokes. No mana pots = blow mana on under scaled abilities.
-
He's a tower diving bad ass! A good Panth, with proper shield use, can block up to THREE turret shots!!
-
The current Ferocity and Cunning masteries are GODLY on Pantheon. 5% more damage on enemies below 40% health? On top of me getting free crits for all people that are at %25?
It's 15%, and by that point your next attack is going to kill them regardless. A complete waste of a passive considering other Assassins have passive shields, passive scaling AD, and double crit. And the 5% damage was always in the offensive tree in the old mastery, I don't see the big deal about it now.
- IT'S RAINING MOTHA FUCKIN MEN IN DIS BITCH
