Why not make Cinderhulks %HP buff stack when you clear camps?

I have been thinking about this for a while now. If they were to make Cinderhulk gain stacks as you cleared camps you would make it less attractive to top laners. This would help fix the current tank driven meta and bring the game to a more balanced situation than it has ever been imo (as far as role is concerned).

You could have it start at 10% hp and then give 1% hp every camp they clear maxing at 15% (totaling the 25% it currently has) , after 2 clears the jungler would have it pretty much stacked.

As far as driving away the tp / smite top lane strategy, it could work. However, why would you want to? It has clear strengths and clear weaknesses. It's healthy in play, since the recent nerfs. I like the diversity.

I don't have a problem with smite top. Cinderhulk gives so much HP for free that if used correctly most of the people that you would run smite top on have even more reason to run smite. And having a summoner spell for a specific item just seems unhealthy game play to me.

If this opened the way for a top/jungle hybrid role I would be all about that, but the current cinderhulk even after the damage nerfs is still a "too good" option for any top laner that would want to run smite.

For smite to be a viable lane spell, there should be choice, but there is basically no reason to go warrior or magus, when you can get 25% hp and an sfc without the armor.

I play at a high gold level, and I have yet to see a tp / smite top laner after the nerfs to Cinderhulk.

Sunfire Cape is better for pushing your wave, better laning tool as it gives immediately useful stats, and the build path is incredibly useful. Sunfire Cape also does more damage to minions and champions, and it is more cost efficient in the first twenty minutes of the game. Since the nerf to Skirmisher's Sabre, as well, it's an even more unattractive item as four seconds is barely the length of a short trade. I don't disagree with your idea at all. The nerf fits in well with the item being a scaling tank item that primarily helps with their poor clearing capabilities. If it's still too good of an item to get, it could be possible for the nerf to work well.

A point you do bring up that I agree with is that bringing smite for a top lane match up is an unhealthy gameplay mechanic. I believe that it's a good example of how our summoner spell diversity is lacking.

The nerfs to it and sabre are enough for the edge case top laners not to bring it. But its still super strong on hec and shy. If it becomes the case that those 2-4 champs are the only ones that bring it top and they no longer dominate the meta, then awesome, I just don't see that happening. It's just so potent of an hp item. =\

Hec is way stronger with ignite up top. Why wait to farm 900 gold to win lane, when you can start winning lane at level 1?

Draganfodder1 votes

Because smite on top lane isnt for winning lane, its for winning team fights. With smite and cinderhulk you can 1v1 the adc at any point in the game pretty much without fear of them killing you. Ignite doesnt give you that but a true damage from skirmishers and a mini exhaust does.

Hecarim needs to get ahead. Shyvana doesn't use it for dueling that much. I actually play both champs quite often and I don't take smite Hecarim in lane because top lane Hecarim really needs to win lane fast to stay relevant. Jungle Hecarim on the other hand shouldn't take challenger smite because you won't get to stick to an opponent as often, and it is much lower risk to go chilling smite.

Why not give the % bonus HP scaling to Warmogs?

Draganfodder1 votes

Because warmogs is fine where it is, you just don't build it because there is almost no reason with the threats in the current meta to get an item that is pure hp and regen, when you can get an item that makes all of your other hp/def items that much more of an efficient buy.

Honestly, I think a whole new item would need to be made if we wanted a laning item for it, akin to infinity edge or deathcap. Warmogs has a decent passive, and it would be overloaded to have an incredible health regen passive and %bonus hp.

I'm not certain that laners need a %hp item. I get that items grow to be static over time and they are a tool for balance and sweeping game changes, but I'm not certain that we are to that point yet.

And depending on what that %hp item was it would either invalidate warmogs further or become another Cinderhulk.
