HELP! So I just started playing a couple weeks ago.... HELP! (xD)

"SHORT" BACKGROUND:

Started playing couple weeks ago because a lot of my friends played this game. Kinda got into it by playing with them on Ashe but then stopped for a while. I've played 3 weeks in total.

Starting off I noticed my CS was shit. (still hasn't gotten much better). As ADC it was like barely 30%. Everyone else seemed to know the game well. Result, quoting a line from Deadpool, was "an endless series of trainwrecks (losses) with only brief commercial-like breaks of happiness (Victories). " Which was apparently normal as I read about the smurfs and all that crap.

Anyway, moved to Vayne after Ashe since I only knew how to play ADC and she seemed to be a popular one. Also because I'm a sucker for Invisibility. (Ironically, couldn't use it much in game tho, lol). But stuck with her for a while and got her to level 4. My CS went up to 40% by then on her. (still shit I know). After playing with friends some of them suggested I try different positions too so I moved to mid.

Since I love silver haired girls, I went for Syndra. (sue me). Turns out she's harder than Vayne because of all the, as they put it, "Skill Shots." I thought why not? I am new, so it should be good time to learn these mechanics. This led to severe under-performance (which was already shit anyway). Less contributions in team fights as I missed a lot of shots and basically my only KS was by ulting the opponents my friends/team mates reduced to bare minimum. My friends suggested I try something else as this was "too advanced" for me. (despite the fact that I had fun playing her).

So I took the advice and switched to something else... Orianna. And they all went like "You dumbass, she's harder than Syndra." But, again, I loved playing her. Although I got ganked wayy to much, I participated in team fights more and I guess that was just a bit more mature game sense that I didn't just stick to lane like ADC.

By then (which is now) I was level 22 and I felt like I'll hit level 30 so soon and I'm not ready for this lol. So I created another account (this one) to practice more. I always wanted to try this other champ which I thought was cool af but my friends (and others) preferred Syndra over her. So I was like fk everyone, on this account I saved up enough IP to buy this champ.

Le and blanc (Lo and Behold) [poor pun, I know]. Moving on. Playing her a couple games I realized she's super complex and much harder than Ori. Although my CS is currently 60% on Ori, it dropped down again at Leblanc. But She's so much more fun to play though! especially as I learn about her potential. (very slowly)

FINALLY, THE REASON I TYPED THIS STORY:

If you didn't read the above crap, the gist is this: I'm a total beginner with fair time to spare and a knack of picking the hardest champs to play. Which has led to slower than usual progression as I need to learn the mechanics and the game all at once. Result has been ultra rage, being called trash for a leBlanc and my friends making fun of my poor damage to champs (that hurt the most tbh). I've noticed the biggest thing affecting my already poor performance is that my mechanics fall apart under pressure (as my friend put it beautifully). As in I tend to rush into things, mis-click flash instead of Heal and get executed by turrets with no enemies around (....yea). This is worst when playing these hard champs that require quick decision making.

They say pick up an easier champ. learn the game. But I'd rather not play if I'm not enjoying the champ. Sure winning is Fun. I can play Lux and get an A- or better in games (which is the best I've ever gotton so far tbh) and while that feels good, I simply don't get the thrill I get when I land a skill shot and turn the game around (happened a couple times, lol).

I practice the CS in practice tool usually. Which has helped but super slow and everyone just raging at the flaws simply adds to the pressure which in-turn spoils the fun.

How can I work on this? Any tips? Anything?

First, you should get to 30 - tier 3 runes help more than you think, especially with your CS problem. Just play your main account and keep buying them up.

Second, Aram is a very good way to become familiar with more champs, and to improve at teamfighting. Just knowing what they do makes it easier to fight them. Although your cs will generally be bad in ARAM, it's essentially one extended teamfight, help you bit with that cracking under pressure.

Third, Smart-cast on an unlocked screen - personally I just set my smart-casts to QWERDF rather than the default for smart cast, although this may hurt your play to begin with, it is invaluable once you're used to it. Space centers on your champion by default.

Otherwise, if you can, play with people better than you and learn from how they play, be as map-aware as you possibly can, and always ward things, regardless of role. Practice makes Perfect (Or, at the very least, better)

Get a friend to one vs one you and ask for help with specific things in those games. IE spend onename focused on cs and another on skill shots. Hell if you want to you can add me and ill help you with it.

Watching videos and streams can also help a lot. I learned a lot from watching others and listening to them explain things.

Yea my friend does help me with that but he always wrecks me with his poppy main tho xD I think I only got one kill on him ever with Vayne on full build (he had no armor. lol.). and I watch a lot of them on twitch. :) Yea they do help a lot. neat tricks.

It helps if the one v one matchup is a more normal one. Like if you wanna practice leblanc ask the other person to play a mid laner into you as she is one herself, or if you want vayne practice ask them to play an adc etc. This is better for lane practice. But Once you get solid at laning teamfighting is pretty easy. The only difficult thing is positioning and that comes with time.

Yep, we do that too. He's like gold 1 I think (dunno how this works yet). so his Cait (when I'm Vayne) messes me up easy. xD also queuing with him I usually get wrecked by other players since they are all high level (I think they call it ELO or something?)

You were okay playing on your first account, you don't have to play ranked when you first hit 30. And you will get better by playing against other level 30's because of the complete rune and mastery pages, giving you better knowledge of what enemy champions can actually do. You are fine playing any champs you want. Make sure you have tier 2 runes after level 20 by the way. And fill your pages out by 30. If you really want to improve your cs, I would suggest doing the progressive cs drills. I'll link a video explaining it. Any ways have fun on the rift!

Also if you want, find yourself a coach (a lot of them are free).

Thank you! Any tips for mechanics tho? (performing under pressure part) lol. and yea I've seen that. But my normal 5 minute CS is so shit I thought the rest would only be worse (like looking at the map after every cs) so I focus only on regular cs with basic items and no abilities. Is that wrong? :O I am practicing looking at map when I hear a ping tho. (work in progress)

If you are looking to do the ADC role look into getting Caitlyn She is very strong and is safe in lane. A very forgiving champion

If mid lane start with Annie she is 450IP and is very easy to pick up. It will help you learn the basics

This is what I did: play every champ from free rotation in their designed role. Don't stick to adc and mid only. It will help you understanding the game, roles. Even if you won't find them fun you will learn about their skill and how to play agains them. Who knows? Maybe you will find top or supp more fun?

DarkSoulist1 votes

True. I agree but, like I said, the champs I pick are hard enough that learning their mechanics takes a while. It's hard to move on if you know that there much more to the champ to learn. lol. But I do plan to try Fiora Top after this Leblanc gets to level 4-5 (again hard af, I know. lol)

ThePikol1 votes

Sorry if that seem harsh, but literally every champ is hard for a 7lvl player. Every one of them are capable of doing more than you actually can. But for start I would suggest these: -top:Chogath DrMundo Maokai Nasus -jg (when you get Smite):Amumu Fiddlesticks MasterYi XinZhao -mid: Annie Brand Heimerdinger Veigar adc: Ashe Caitlyn Jinx Sivir supp: Alistar Morgana Sona

DarkSoulist1 votes

I realize that and My other account is almost lvl 25 so I kinda know what you mean?

ThePikol1 votes

So if you have lvl 25 acc and this one is lvl 7 I assume you already tested most if not all champs in game

DarkSoulist1 votes

Nope. again my champs (Vayne, Syndra, Orianna) took most time. However I did try Cait, Rakan, Kha Zix (?) and some others. :)

There's some good stuff in here, and some more advanced stuff that will also help later on. Certainly helped me improve, anyway.

Syndra was my first champion in lol. It took me a long time to be able have a decent cs.

If you like playing come champs, do so. Lol has practice tool so you can do 1 vs 5 in that and learn how to perform under pressure without worrying abt others.

One easiest yet hardest champ is Master Yi. To get a hang of how strategy works.. play him and Dodge every snare/root/ cc. If you can't Dodge.. then other champs are too hard for you. And everyone hates him.

If you think lux is easy play morgana. Her snare is slow. And easy to dodge.

Play zed, you might like his shadow dance. I hate him and played him to learn how to avoid him.

DarkSoulist1 votes

I have tried Zed (not a big fan tbh lol). And I was thinking Lee sin for jgl (:$). Also, Vayne has gotton me to intuitively dodge everything too :) Although I haven't tried Master Yi so can't comment. but TY!

inhumanlol1 votes

Yi is really simple. Good players use his kit to as gameplay/outplay others. His linear kit is also the reason to hate/dislike him.

Really, from what I recall from streamers and videos. The best thing you can do to help with mechanics under pressure is just practice and repetition. As you become more familiar with the game and a champ you can start to predict or plan how things will go even in the heat of the moment which will help you not falter in that critical moment.

Just keep playing and follow some of the other advice given, just remember that this is the game and if those are the champions you enjoy just play them then.

DarkSoulist1 votes

I see. so basically persevere?

In a way yes. Practice makes perfect after-all.

t2 runes cost 1ip each get a full rune page of attack speed, armor, and cooldown reduction

Tristana is really easy ADC to learn for beginners

DarkSoulist1 votes

Yep I noticed that recently (ref: runes). TY!

The best way to improve is to practice csing in the practice tool (aim for 70-80 CS at 10 minutes) and play champions that you enjoy the style of (enjoying the champion makes it easier to play them as you will have more fun in the process). Other parts of the game such as trading and rotations come with experience, but for now, just focus on cs and enjoying the game.

On a separate note, if you really want to get competitive with the game and improve, I highly suggest queuing with your better friends. You will get curb stomped to start with, but you learn a lot quicker from your mistakes if you do it this way. Hopefully your friends won't be overly toxic with your mistakes, and this way you learn from players with more experience. This is how I learned the game, and its gotten me to where I am today (which isn't overly impressive, but still better than where I was a year ago).

P.S. As other people have said, youtube videos also help a ton. Hope you keep enjoying the game!
