Remakes - One of the best Ideas yet with flawed Execution?
First of all, welcome everybody to this little thread.
Todays topic is the remake-option for our games. I am very thankful that it exists, but consider it in need of improvement.
We all know these games in which some players have connection issues and its a 4v5 right from the beginning. No one wants to play a 4v5. I am not saying you can't win a 4v5, of course you can. I even saw 3v5 games that still turned out as a win. But lets be honest here, if someone is AFK right from the beginning, we do not enjoy the game as much as we would have in a 5v5, right?
The important difference between an AFK right from the start and an AFK in the middle is, that if it was a 5v5 for the first part of a game, there is the chance for your team to ensure victory already. So you have good chances to win a 4v5. You do not feel that bad because you can say "Hey, we are so fed / good in the game, we can still win this. No problem" You are not that affected at all. Even if you loose by that time, it does not feel that bad cause you can at least say "Nah, was lost anyways". And yeah of course there are games where an AFK in the Middle of a game is just horrible. I do not deny this. It can feel like shit, and we do not want this to happen in our games. But...there is an even worse scenario. I already mentioned it. An AFK right from the start. It does not really matter who it is. Your attitude towards the game is already struck. Maybe it is the Toplane, so your Jungler has to move. Maybe your mid, maybe you don not have a Jungler and maybe you face a 1v2 on the Botlane. I don not think this is what we expect from our time / game when we hit the "Play" button and join a lobby. We expect a fair 5v5 with all our teammates available and ready to fight for the win.
Good thing there is the option of a Remake after three minutes. We vote for a remake if we want (of course we can vote no if we know the one will come back) to and it was just a short waste of time. At least we get to play a 5v5 in the next game (hopefully).
And here is the problem with the remake system. It only works if a player does not even connect to the game in the first place. Means: If your team member joins the game for like two seconds and disconnects immediately after that so you have to spend at least 15 Minutes in the game, with your eroded mood and hope for the best, because you are not allowed to remake the game after three minutes. And after my last game in which just that happened, some questions came to my mind.
- If a player is not able to even connect to the game in the first place, why do we even have to remake? Why does the game not end itself on its own? Because there is a chance that he might be able to connect in the next three minutes?
- Why is a disconnect from the game after a very brief time (not even moving a millimeter in the base) any different from the first point? You have three minutes to get your internet from "Not existing and unable to even connect to the game in the first place" to "Working fine -im in guys" but as long as you want to for a quick reconnect with internet that worked just a few seconds ago?
- Why is it not possible to just return into the Pick&Ban Phase after a remake and get a single player to take the spot for the AFK one? Why does everyone (9 Players) have to search a completely new game instead of quickfilling it with a single person?
Well and some more, but I guess I described my key points quite well. At least good enough for people to understand my / our problem with the Remake-System.
I would love to discuss the possibility of a remake of the remake system. As I already signified with my three question points, the first three aspects / additions of a new version of the system would be:
- Auto-Remake in case a player is not able to connect to the game in the first place.
- The possibility of a remake after three Minutes (the current system) if a player does not move / leave the base in the first three minutes.
- Maybe Quickfilling a new game to reduce the waste of time for players.
So...what do you think about it? Maybe I just misunderstand all of this. Let me know about your thought and clear things up if needed. Maybe there is a rework of a rework system at the end of this.
Have a nice day you all, and hopefully some great games worth remembering!
