Anyone else think the new runes ruined the game?

I've seen and tried this new update, and so far, I think it's total chaos. Some champions just got thrown straight into the gutter, and some got just ludicrously overpowered. I'm just a normal gold 5 player and you can laugh at me about that, but serioisly, let's face it. Everything I liked about league of legends is gone. Where did the counterplay ability go? Where did the champion balance go? What will happen to people so called "mains" who got their most loved champs nailed in to the coffin? So much is lost, but most important of all I think, is the tension. Do you remember when you had a classic 3-inhibitor comeback? Or when you got a pentakill in a 60 minute game and everyone at the end added you as a way of showing respect? The thrill when you won with the slightest difference? The building tensions, the teamfights, the comebacks, the ecstasy that was brought when you won a meaningful game and let you have a goodnight sleep?

Well now, say no more.

The gameplay at current state can be said in a single word : Lame.

The game will be snowball-y way too hard there will be little to no possibility to be able to counterplay or come back, and to be honest, I think what people like about league is the variety of situations, where a game can be turned by a single and slightest move, the complexity and the tension. Well they all lost it now. Every game will be the same as any other, a 20~30minute game where everything is just lead by one op champions and no sick plays. League of legend is and was a slow-paced building up game. Now all that's gone.

After playing with the new runes, for the first time since I played league of legends, I didn't even fathom to que a new game because it was straight up boring.

Yeah well sure you will have some fun playing crazy-op champs for a while, but it will all wear off real quick.

So, till things get better,or reverted for my best hope, I think I can say that league of legends lost it's identity.

Yup the game is now even worse and I highly doubt Riot will change how the game is right now they are stubborn and think everything they do we likes it. It always been like that since season 3-4 and I've been playing that game since season 1. If I remember they dont make alot of change when it comes to pre Season to Season .

For the people saying it's day 1 of pre season like please it doens't take 1 month to know how messy the game is currently.

tl;dr : game is terrible right now

Indeed I agree, though I understand how some see it positively, but the out of balance needs to be fixed. If they want to erase the gap of "veterans" and newcomers, it's simple. Delete runes&masteries or make it free, not make an entire set of chaos.

It doesn't need fixed.. it needs reverted.

This is literally the same change WoW did that drove away half their player base.

So LoL private servers are on the way with x10 IP rates and free skins? :)

It's not that they don't recognize that we don't like it (they physically cannot look at the boards without slogging through thread after thread informing them of this), it's that they're too stubborn to scrap this much work. Doesn't matter if this work is in the wrong direction and has rubbed everybody the wrong way, it's work they did and they're sticking to their guns. Which.. killed my respect for them. I have no fun, even when I'm playing champions I love. The game just sucks.

I think the absolute wort part about these new runes is that as they are now theres little to no variability in gameplay. You cant really play champs in unconventional ways anymore since the new runes box you into very limited archetypes. As an example, I used to run Nautilus top with AS quints, AD marks, health seals, MR glyphs, and a , 0/18/11 mastery page. This allowed him to be able to keep up damage wise up top (from aoe and on hit effects) while still being tanky for your team. With these new runes i've tried all different combinations but theres just no way to make him as effective as an offtank as he used to be. The same goes for any offtank now. Riot sacrificed he customization that allowed players to tailor the game to their styles for the streamlined new runes. They seem intended to make it easier for new players to learn how to choose their loadouts at the expense of uniqueness.

I just think that the game has been changed to be who can get a lead first. without innate tank stats, every squishy in the game becomes redundant once yi gets an item. everyone builds damage cause if you get the first kill. you win. Tanks mean nothing cause tankyness comes from items, and, that requires gold.

my problem is that it becomes impossible to do anything if you fall behind even a little. a one item lead soon becomes a 5 item lead cause of the massive difference in damage. the longest game i had played this year was over 70 min long, it was a massive slog and unfortunately i lost. we made a bad play around baron and our supp got sniped out. they got baron and were able to beat us 4 v 5. this patch, the longest game ive played was 22 min. and only cause it took a while for everyone to agree to surrender. i got cheesed in the jungle they then dived bot as a five man lvl 1 and the tristana got 3 kills. she came back to lane with a bf sword and 2 shot our ashe for the rest of the game.

Now I'm not saying that couldn't happen before the patch but its a hell of a lot easier because of the patch. its entirely impossible to stall in this patch. before it was pretty easy to sit under tower and farm. now if you die in lane, you lose your tower and from there you lose the game.

Why do you think klepto ez is so op?? its cause it gets him items faster it gets him ahead and from there he shreds cause no one has innate tank stats to protect them from his insane damage. and to get tanky you need gold which means you need to farm. How are you supposed to be able to farm when the lv 2 tristana is rocket jumping under tower alone two shoting you and rocket jumping out?

I just hate that the winner of the game basically falls to whomever has the stronger early game, or the faster item spike. maybe riot wanted the game to only run for 20 min. but for me, that ruins everything about the game. it removes the strategy and turns it into a cool skin on cod.

I am full time support, the new system messed my game and now I can't play as well as before. The abilities to create unique sets to fix your champs is gone. For example with soraka I can't start the game with 10% CD, that was critical. Tank champions like leona just kill me when I have 80% life, the dmg is ridiculous. I can't add extra mana regeneration or health regeneration which was useful on some of my sup champs. New rune system is bad. I will stop playing as protest, it is frustating to have such under power.

Yes indeed it has been way more than 1 days for pbe. And also, even 1 day, if conducted and examined right, is way more than enough to evaluate the new gameplay.

Well I posted a thread to get 1 rune nerfed after noticing what it does. It takes out the tank class all together and turns the game into who hits who first. If i want a first person shooter ill play overwatch. That rune, is Gathering of the Storm. Slowly it causes tanks to become squish over the course of the game. And late late game if its a stall, everyone will die to 1 hit to anyone but from a tank. So rip gg tanks hellp assians

Last I Breath3 votes

Let's face another example. The rising star of this season - Nasus. I do not remember exactly what it's called, but I believe that there was a tank rune called demolisher, and another that empowers your on hit effects. Think of those rune's synergy with specific champions. What players considered pretty important (balance between champions and the fact that skill matters more than the mere power of an champion itself) is I think, totally out of control.

I mean they are going to fix fringe cases eventually.. oh wait this is riot we're talking about so yeah nvm that won't happen. The issues you are referring to have always existed in the league. The loop holes (what some people refer to as op champions) are what people use to climb the ranked ladder. anyone playing up said ladder knows if you want to climb you have to resort to the flavor of the month, or what is strong in the current meta which is true for every competitive game. What pisses me off is riots claim that any player can play their own style and still enjoy the game which simply isn't true.

That being said in this game there is ALWAYS counterplay. I literally won a game last night for my team vs a twitch that was disintegrating my carries with the new AS buffs. I noticed he was always flanking fights from the same side and when the support walked up (in what appeared to be a seppuku run) I threw my pink ward behind me to find a twitch sitting there afk waiting to walk in and 100 to 0ed him (was playing sup zyra) because I was litterally banking on removing enemy carries from the game. There is still counterplay it just isn't as obvious as before. My old mindset would have been to play a tank like naut, or thresh to lock down the adc but i've found killing them is a much more reliable form of CC.

There haven't been GG's since every champ became able to fulfil multiple roles since there was always a get out of jail free card for assassins on top of their insane burst, since there were adcs with low cd escape tools that can litterally give two shits about their positioning, since tanks can deal more dmg than an adc with half the items, ect, ect kect

the real issue with league is nothing feels rewarding... Examples

1.) I'm a fed adc but their team is running two assassins I only got 1 GA proc, my tanks cant litterally lock them both down long enough to destroy them so i'm fucked no matter how well I position or my tanks play.

  1. I'm a hard engage support and I land every fken ability on earth but cant catch an ad through scimitar, GA, flash, + shields + heal, on top of the teams cc even though I am playing to 110pct of my ability I can not enjoy the game

3.) I'm a fed A F top lane bruiser I've made impacts in all my lanes but I can't delete a critical target because after they build 2 items they either 100 to 0 my carries b4 they can be peeled off, or they can survive all the initiation tools my team has and walk out then come back in 10 seconds with all their CD's back.

Literally, nothing feels good in this game anymore. I land abilities all freaking day that a year ago were guaranteed kills with minimal follow-up, now I can net the same target 4X in a team fight and they have tools to negate it every single time. you either 100 to 0 or get 100 to 0ed or you survive the fight and your survival is meaningless because you can't do anything with it.

This is Riot's vision for the game. They've been steadily introducing damage/mobility/utility creep into the game for years now, and if your champion doesn't have enough of it on his/her kit to abuse, then you're playing a garbage champion and Riot wants you to spend RP on a new one.

Dotislav Pro2 votes

They didn't need to force those changes, they could just let runes be free and make recommended rune pages for noobs. I have a problem atm with not having enough damage to clear minion waves, like i could before with old runes. Some champs just need that little bit more if u don't have it u are in big trouble because u need to go in there to use 3 more auto attacks or u can say good bye to farm or go in and get ganked.

Diversity was higher with old runes, you could sacrifice other runes to max one, like magic pen on Zyra or gold per sec for supports, Veigar cdr, that could turn some champions back to be viable again, and now they gonna be in total shadow, with how the Riot is balancing, they just give up of balancing and they change champions completely which already ruined the game ( at least for me ).

You are forced to take a little bit from everything now and at the end u don't have what you need. Honestly I think they run out of imagination and ideas and they were like we have to change something just for a sake of changing (at the end nothing is changed just ruined). When they are going to work on shape of the map or delete / rework some champions that ruined what was called League of Legends. I am sick to look how my old champions getting jerked on reworked just because they released new op champions. (f u r)

I think they did a bad job i am not happy with how it feels now.

I got really bored with how the game felt last 2 seasons. If they didn't touch anything since season 2 / 3 / 4 i think i could play game forever...

The new runes literally destroyed the whole idea of matching abilities of a champ and pre game planning to separate you from noobs. Instead its a freekin burst fest with tanks nerfed to oblivion. Nice way to totally destroy the game Riot. Uninstalling after 6 years soon.

SwiftKitten881 votes

the new runes did NOT ruin the game, i don't feel like they improved it much. (if at all)

but i dont think they "ruined it"

course i certainly am biased on this point because for the first time in a year my main is truly viable, and that is enitrely due to new runes soo.... yeah.

im not saying it didn't cause huge balance issues... it did... but considering the balance issues it cayused and how bad i EXPECTED it to be.

there is a pretty good chance, it can be fixed enough to actaully turn into an improvement.

granted damage creep is still absurd... but.. yeah

it's okay if i say no right? cause i like the new runes. im a long time player, but i never wanted to nor had the time to grind for the IP to get runes or rune pages. making them almost free was great, but the bottom line was that there was just too much synergy with some of the runes and some of the masteries. this goes back wayyyyy before season 3. to that end by simplifying the skill tree and essentially removing the runes all together you can get a more impactful and strategic decision before you ever start your match and in a way that promotes strategy more so than pay to win. before it was definitely pay to win. in fact i would go so far as to say that a level 30 and a level >18 was probably one of the worst match ups ever. free mode was a nightmare for new players. now at least new players can have a chance to win. if you didnt have runes or masteries before for every contingency then you were up a creek without a paddle. runes also couldnt be modified in champ select either so if you had only 2 pages and needed to swap to a different roll thanks to auto-fill you'd be in a position that left your team at a disadvantage. now you can change on the fly and everything can be calculated before you go into a match. which means that your choice matters. your knowledge matters. and i think that that whole point isnt be stressed enough. people are freaking out about how impactful the runes are now. and that's kind of the point...

edit

sure some things are a bit overtuned, but this stuff was just recently released. just as zoe will be broken so is everything else that's released. the pbe only surfaces some issues - not all. some people on the pbe refuse to acknowledge bugs and instead use it as a way to game the system in order to abuse work releases to climb ranks. it's just how it is.

It is easy to hate change. Just try to remember that preseason is always a mess and that it is expected. Data is gathered and the patches start rolling out and hopefully it all feels fairly balanced when season 8 begins. These changes keep the game from becoming stale. Try to be adaptive and if you enjoy the game give it time. =)

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Problem is the game has been frustratingly snowbally since season 6, and it still hasn't been addressed. When every game is decided by a double kill dive 5 minutes in, it grows stale quite quickly, regardless of which sparkles accompany it.

the only reason anyone says the changes are good is because they are new to game and cant afford runes. Sadly though this happens to every game that actually has competitive play. Look at Gears 1-2, Halo 2-3, even CoD used to take skill back in the CoD 5 days or BO2, and now league. They try to address the issue of new players not able to enjoy their games because they do not understand anything and end up ruining their own game and going out of the circuit. Gears added a sawn off and retro lancer CoD started making it too easy to kill people and Halo games all blew after 3 until 4 came out and they didnt even have couch player in that so the franchise died anyways. League has tried to keep new players at the expense of old players. This new update is completely bonkers. i Have been playing league since beta personally and it was better then than it is now. Games dont last more than 25min and there is now counter play to anything. All the champs that are good 100-0 you at lvl 2-3 and if you cant do that than your champ is not playable. Honestly there was no need for the rune changes. There was no need for any of this. What is so hard about new players embracing the learning curve and gaining the skills required to climb? The old system worked phenomenally and grinding IP was not simply for grinding IP but also to make you have to get good at the game by actually playing the game to earn IP to learn what is good and worth getting or what champs etc. Just because new players get all butt hurt because they dont have the runes they want rito went and ruined the first game to change the worlds opinions of video games, but a las all good things but come to an end and everything that goes up must come down. It is very sad to say but officially half my friends lists topped playing and i will be following suite. If only riot had not sold out to the Chinese.
