I fear for the MoBA Genre (Disturbing Trends)

I have recently been taking a few months break from League as the game was just getting to me. Its not a problem with the state of the game at all, its a problem with Riot's pattern of behaviour. Riot seem intent of presenting easy ways to do everything and it is making people feel self-entitled and arrogant.

I usually find that Zed and LeeSin players are usually pretty arrogant. Their champs afford them a false sense of security and provide them with the affirmation that its "THEM" that are skilled, when actually, their kits provide them with a massive number of options in a fight, much more then other champions. I just do not feel like playing when people are getting rewarded for putting in less effort.

This seems to be a motif with Riot ever since Dynamic Q came out and its making the game very casual and disposable. I used to love playing League, now I can take it or leave it and this is AFTER taking a break for a while (check my account to see).

I come back and its STILL the same way, we still have these two champions amongst others STILL being a problem since Riot want to create an easy way to rack up kills, inflate people's egos and therefore get more money and it just seems incredibly obvious. ALL champions used to have their own unique merits and they ALL used to preform equally and that simply is not the case anymore.

After playing SMITE and seeing a night and day difference between the community and Hi-Rez's attitude to balance, which used to be good but sadly, recently they have seen the gravy train too and have gotten greedy and its affecting game balance negatively.

I just feel sad for the MOBA genre as I feel that greed has been sacrificing game balance and its really sad. Each of the Moba's (LOL, HOTS, SMITE), all have the same problem of trying to balance out the need for profit and the need for a rewarding gameplay experience that feels fair. A lot of champions do not feel fair and its a horrible feeling to feel powerless in game.

I did have a suggestion, what if Riot introduce new ways to balance the game out, so that games feel like less of a massive stomp-fest and more like a strategic, challenging experience.

Does anyone here, really want an easy "dumb-down game" (Look at the recent changes to the Alistar combo for evidence of Riot dumbing the game down). Or do people want an immersive game that rewards teamwork and cooperation, not one that rewards somebody just for picking a champion that happens to be a favourite of Riot's so they give it favourable stats?

Do people really want easy games? Where is the challenge in that?

If the MMO world has taught us anything, it's that a majority of players don't want the immersion, the teamwork, or the challenge. No, they just want the rewards. And they want to rewards NOW. And they're willing to pay money for the rewards NOW.

Same applies to the MOBA world. And that's what Chinaland wants.

I kind of agree with you, a lot of people want instant gratification without the journey. Kids are told these days that they are "special" and "unique", so they grow up believe that the world owes them something and they are self-entitled and that is the main issue with the world today. In an attempt to increase self-esteem and psychological health, parents give kids the wrong impression about the world. You need to work to be good at anything in life.

I stopped after self entitled and arrogant. The current generation is being raised to be just that. They have barely scraped the surface on contributing anything to society yet they think they are owed everything. Why wouldn't that spill over into the online world as well?

I totally agree and to a lesser extent, you see this by an arrogant attitude on a video game. This is because parents and teachers are not allowed to show their kids they are nothing special because its "child abuse". Why should the state have any say on how you punish a child. I was smacked as a child and I grew up Ok, so did millions of others for thousands of years. There is a line between that and child abuse and we all know where that lies but discipline is how children LEARN.

Leadership is too soft today. It's next to non-existent in most cases. And yes, it starts with parenting. You don't need to hit to teach but you also have to not be lazy AF to teach as well, and most leadership today is just that, lazy AF.

Can't believe people downvote this serious and true commentary, just because I mention how Zed is instant gratification without any sort of practice. Its the same with Annie because both have high numbers. People do not want to shatter their house of cards and realise that they are not unique. One Zed player is no different then the 50 million worldwide, you are not unique.

Wow, Zed is like 44th most popular champion according to lolking. Why do you cry about him? Lol has never been a hard game. How can you dumb down the most casual, popular and fun game in the world?

My thoughts in a nutshell, sadly cowardly sheep don't want to think for themselves.
