Skarner ult to SMALL

i love playing skarner but i feel so useless when ganking or fighting because of the range of his ult. it feels like i have to stand right next to the enemy to use it. what is the point of playing this champ if i cant even play him to be effective. in the end i just end up dying because to use my ult i have to go in the middle of the enemy team to ult somebody. it is frustrating how small his ult range is and i feel that it needs to be dramatically increased.
