i really don't see the point of autofill

like really, who would rather wait 10 minutes to find a person w/ support as their primary/seconday role, or wait 2 minutes to find an autofilled midlaner who locks in ap rammus/full ap kayle support, forcing you to dodge???

or an autofilled ADC who locks in vayne/draven for the first time, forcing you to dodge???

or an autofilled mid, who locks in katarina for the first time?

i would rather wait 10 minutes for a fair game instead of 2 minutes where im forced to either rage and flame in a game and lose 20 LP or dodge and lose 3 LP

like seriously, i wouldn't mind having an autofilled support/top/mid/adc/jungle in normals. by all means, keep the autofill system in normals, because everyone plays for fun, so having an off meta champion like varus top or aatrox support or AP zed mid won't ruin your MMR/LP/promos

but when winning is all that matters in ranked? i want a team that is comfortable in their position, not a team who's literally only played their assigned role once. seriously. it's so frustrating. i ask my mid if he's autofilled and he says yes but doesn't want to swap. so he locks in rammus mid. now i'm a dumbass who doesn't dodge and guess what? we lost that game.

is there something im missing to this system?

.. do people really so zero research beforew posting stupid things... the reason autofill exist isn't solely for higher elo que times.. its because without it... people were QUITTING support.

many people (myself included) would put support as thier secondary role.. we LOVE to support..like maybe 1/3 of the time.. the issues is riot system would give us support secondaries.. support EVERY SINGLE GAME. i was planning on seeing how mnay games in a row it would give me support if i put it as my secondary becuase after 5 i was just getting pissed... but after 30 in a row (and thats not an exaggeration it was THIRTY check my jan-feb match history 2016) i gave it up and dropped support and put jungle/mid.

players learned that they could; NEVER put support secondary. without an 100% change of being given support. so we stopped supporting. this in turn became a downward spiral. becuase the more people who did this the less there were.. this causes que time to sky rocket even more and the few remaining support secondarys to instantly get put support without it even spending half a second looking for our primary.

adding autofill broke this downward spiral. and many support players (myself included) now play support again.. because i know i wont get it every single game. and now i am even willing to swap with people on my team who get autofilled support if they ask.

THAT is why we have "autofill"

since when did i say the old system was better? i said i'd rather wait 10 minutes to get a person who knows how to play support, and autofill does not do that for me. the system needs to be changed as a whole.

new system: forces people to play an offrole every 3-4 games, shortens queue times

old system: forces people to play support (if secondary) for 30 games in a row, lengthens queue times by miles because no one wants to pick support as a secondary.

if riot finds a middle ground between these two systems, everyone becomes happy.

Autofill is needed, especially in high elo. In low elo they maaaaaaaybe can get rid of it (even though it seems like there would be 20+ minute queue times even then) the high elo people who already have 15-20+ minute queues somewhat regularly will be waiting for hours.

Overall it would suck ass.

I never waited 20 minutes for a game when autofill didn't exist. Sure maybe at high elo it's needed but it's stupid AF everywhere else.

How long ago did autofill exist? I'm a relatively new player but maybe at that time since judging by other people the community was less shit, maybe more people opted to play support. Nowadays I can be waiting in a 10 min queue time in bronze-silver and still have an autofilled player or be autofilled.

It didn't have that much of an effect on me (yay supp main), but I think it came out about a year (and a half?) ago

It may be a couple years old and there has been nothing but backlash about it. Before that the ques were a bit longer but people will be people and whine and bitch about anything and then the devs changes it to shorten que times and you have people whining and bitching about that. I personally hate the idea of auto fill because you are encouraging toxicity by forcing someone into a role they might not be good at. That is why auto fill is so stupid. I would much rather wait and get my role then have to play something that makes me a hindrance to my team. But, the geniuses at RIOT are the smartest dumb people in the gaming world.

Autofill is a terrible design. If your game is that bad where people don't want to play a specific part of it then you need to change / improve your game, not shove it down our throats.

Let's just use World of Warcraft's LFG system for dungeons. Sometimes you wait for 15 -20 mins if you are a DPS, it's the cost you pay for something that everyone wants to do .. which is braindead autofollowing the tank and PEW PEW. However, if you choose a tank / healer your wait times are dramatically decreased.

What would happen if people were autofilled in WoW? You would get tanks that don't know how to tank , healers that let everybody die.. in other words you force someone to do a job that they don't want / know how to do. Don't use gear as a differential here because you can generally use the same gear to tank as you do to DPS now, not optimally but it's workable.

The point in the comparison is that if you want to play roles that are highly popular then that's just the cost of supply/ demand. High supply of mid laner , low demand for it reflecting in your que timer.

I would MUCH rather wait 10 minutes for a more competitive game than to wait 2 minutes for the autofilled top laner to get destroyed by someone who mains top lane.

If not eliminating autofill at least match with two opposing positions that are both autofilled.

I don't know if this is an issue leading to snowballing as well but it really is making the game more awful to play, right now ranked is almost unbearable.

I love being support my queue times are 0-5 seconds

All autofill did was create more trolls, dodging, and instant losses because some people aren't comfortable in certain roles. But the people who support this system won't acknowledge this. They'll pull the "you should learn to play all roles" card. Before season 6, yes, that argument was valid in ranked because sometimes you'll be the last pick and had to fill. But for the new draft mode they came up with where you get to pick your 2 roles you're comfortable with, not so much. And autofill kinda defeats the purpose of the new draft mode because you're throw people into roles in a ranked game that they had no desire queueing up for just for the sake of shorter queue times.
