Banning Teammate's Champions

Why hasn't Riot made champion select unable to ban a teammate's champion yet. I play Teemo often top lane, and I know a few people don't like Teemo, but that doesn't give your own team reason enough to ban a champion that someone own their own team is trying to use. I'm currently sitting at a 30min wait time because I have now dodged twice in a row because my own team has banned Teemo. And I never dodge. I may have dodged 5 times ever and two of them were right now. I'm actually of the opinion that people who dodge should get a more severe punishment than 5-6min wait times on their first offense. It's not that I couldn't use another champion but rather the reason of why would I want to play with a group of people so set on sabotaging someone else's fun. Or in my case, the best chance at winning my own lane. This is by far the most toxic thing I've come across while playing LoL. People just automatically assume that since a champion isn't "meta" that they can't win, regardless of what actual skill the player might have compared to other players. I've been told that so many champions picked against me are counters, but then I will own my lane and push tower with no problems.

Anyway what I think should happen is Riot should make it where you can't ban a teammate's champion if they already have it prepicked in champion selection during the banning process. Or punishment should be doled out to players who purposefully ban those champions. Or if those bans do happen, people who dodge, like in my situation, shouldn't be punished for not wanting to play with already obviously toxic people.

There are certain contested picks that some people dont wanna risk falling into enemy hands. But what they do to you is silly, they dont wanna let u play your main Teemo... Just dont show that u gonna pick it.

I am OK with the banning. Just don't preselect your champion.

Team mates shouldn't ban picks unless it is a newer champion that most people do not have familiarity with, but in general do you want to play with a teammate that bans you selection? I would say dodge in general if that occurs. You are probably playing with an uncooperative teammates.

Yeah but then you are dealing with long wait times because of other people. Like I said in the post, I never dodge. i literally can't stand it. But I also don't think someone should be punished in the situation I was in because that is clearly a red flag that those people are probably not good teammates. In fact this has happened before and I picked Singed to try him out cause I had just bought him. I told my team I was gonna feed, but decided to just report the teammate later. I got a message from Riot not even 5mins after the game telling me they had been suspended. But i still took a loss. No win situation.

Well, I would just not inform the team who you are playing at all. It is pretty simple. I play in an elo where this never happens in a ranked match, because most people understand that if you are not cooperative early on you will probably lose.

What elo are you in? In ranked I just hit Silver 3, but in normal queues in play with a lot of Plats.

I am Gold I on my main and Gold V on my smurf. Banning someone's champion never occurs in a ranked game unless it was accidental, which does happen sometimes. Most of the players are pretty apologetic when it does occur.

I mean when my smurf was in silver, I did encounter a lot of assholes and immature players and it happened to me a few times. It was still an anomaly for the most part and it hasn't happened to me once in Gold.

I am starting to think though that Gold is probably the best division in terms of player cooperation. I heard Platinum can be pretty bad in terms of its toxicity and I know silver is really bad from my experiences in it last season and on my smurf this season.

Lower gold, Gold V and maybe a bit of Gold IV are sometimes bad, but in general the people that are toxic are just players that will probably get bounced back into silver if they keep playing ranked. In which case most stop playing ranked around this time of the season knowing they can't get to platinum and they do not want to risk going back into Silver.

In Gold, most players recognize that they are good at the game, but not great at it. They also know how to play from behind, and that people make mistakes.

Blame game does not occur too often unless it is at the very end. I remember when I was playing on my smurf almost every silver loss (and sometimes win) I encountered people blaming everyone. This attitude changes dramatically across the divisions because most gold players recognize that blaming teammates is pretty much counter-productive towards a win.

That's what I've been told by my buddy in Plat. Says gold is the least toxic probably and Plat give up almost as soon as they die one time cause they dont expect to come back. Makes no sense to me. I play to win every game regardless of how I or my team is doing.

People that are better know how to hold onto leads. That's why really high elo a small lead can be difficult to come back from because the players are less likely to throw.

I mean you are playing Teemo.

because if our last pick team mate wants a cheesy OP pick, I;m still banning it. I'm not going to chance the enemy team getting it

What a joke. Do you need a safe space for champion select?

It's a sad sight to see the pole have more votes towards not prohibiting this then for prohibiting it. What is wrong with you people? Do you really not trust allies that much?

It really blows my mind. This is my first season in ranked and I have seen so much of it that I almost stopped playing before i got out of Bronze. Don't see it as much in silver but it still happens. I just don't understand how players, who clearly aren't that good can do this to players that are climbing.

You're all black and white. I started a thread like this but I also suggested there should be at least a warning, because you often hear the 'sorry my bad, did not see you selected that'.

Kowen171 votes

I almost never believe those though. People will be a dick on purpose but play it off as an accident. That's why i think if you have a champ preselected then your team should be locked from banning it. Keeps people from getting mad all around except the people that don't think a champion is worthy, which is a terrible excuse.

AdeBug1 votes

I know they can use that as a lame excuse, but if they also have a warning, then they will literally have NO excuse, and you can all report in the end game for trolling. Plus this way the people that actually ban on accident will be warned, too.

Dont pick a champ intended pick until after bannings.

Low elo Teemo tops are a liability 9 times out of 10, Gold is 1 out of 10.

Perhaps your team wanted a tank or a bruiser in top lane? Just because your pick might win the lane doesn't mean it'd win the game.
