Autofill is a mistake.

Riot made many... MANY mistakes. Autofill is one of the most cancerous mistake riot made. Literally.

We remember old draft pick, YES WE DO. And in solo queue every time people fighted for "Mid". I was just toplane/jungler guy, and of course i sucked as support and hated plaing as support. Most of time people understand and let me go top/jungle, but sometimes people were like "U go supp we dont care... DUCK YOU". And i just picked random toplane/jungle tank and focus on protecting adc and have hope my team will do their job and wont duck up and start blaming me for lose but mostly it like, my team duck up and blame me and i cant do anything with that, and being helpless just grinds my gears. But there were many people like me.

And then riot made solution. New draft, you pick 2 roles and you dont need to worry about being forced to play role you suck and you are just become helpless. Yea, wait times were kinda longer but it solved most problem with toxicity and there were less "Forced supports".

But well, everything was nice untill riot made this hecking, hamster hating, terrible MISTAKE called AUTOFILL. We know how this stuff works, when you have autofill activated, you CAN BE PLACED AS ROLE YOU DIDN'T SELECTED. Literally system says to you "Hey you dont have mastered any support champion and you dont have idea how to be a DECENT support. DUCK YOU AND SAY HELLO TO YOUR SUPPORT ROLE, enjoy being helpless"

Literally riot worked hard to make new champion select to solve problems with "Forced roles" just to bring problem back. THAT LITERALLY MAKES NO DUCKING SENSE,

You think its not your problem cus you are jack of all trades and you dont care what role you get? YOU ARE DUCKING WRONG!!!! Its your problem also because you can have as support "OTP OLAF" who literally have no idea what he is doing plaing aganist OTP {put here thresh or strong when mastered support}... we all know outcome of that confrontation. Or other side "I DONT SUPPORT I MID OR FEED" people came back because now they can say "They are autofilled".

Yeah i have some champions playable as support but the problem is, even if i can do miracles as toplaner/jungler it doesent mean i can do the same as UNDERFARMED AND POOR AS DUCK SUPPORT. I'm just like helpless baby who needs to be carried.

So RIOT PLS REMOVE THIS MISTAKE BECAUSE IT EVEN BEATEN item 3036 IN BEING MOST CANCEROUS POOP IN LEAGUE OF LEGENDS.

Purpose: Decrease average queue time.

Outcome: Sucess.

Worth it or not is opinion. Personally I think it was. If they take it out and queue times jump to 30 minutes for mid/top, I'd just quit league and play something else since I only game for like an hour, hour and a half tops a day. It would effectively lock me out of playing if it got as bad as WoW dungeon finder has gotten.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I don't think the average queue time was 2+ hours before autofill was introduced.

And just for clarification, queue time isn't the time required to wait before getting into the first game.

It's the time required to wait before getting into the first game "we wish to play" within reason, and as things stand right now it'd take more than playing 4 undesired games before achieving that.

Obviously, official definition states otherwise, but honestly, would you count it if you're just suffering and trying to get over with the game you don't want to be in just so you can queue for the next one?

I play under the pretext of understanding and accepting how the system works, but that doesn't mean I consider undesired games as playing; I consider those as prices paid before getting to my game.

I entirely agree. It is true that support is not popular, and like you said the correct way to solve it is focus on the role, not focus on forcing players into that role.

Queue times weren't bad before that I can remember, no, but you had autofill in both bottom and top elos already. Silver-plat was generally spared, but it was starting to spread into the lower reaches of silver and upper plat. I don't have acess to data to confirm, but I suspect that Riot was seeing a trend that queue times were heading towards balloon inflation and decided to act before that happened, especially since they were splitting flex and solo/duo. As much as we like to give them shit for their mistakes, and they do make mistakes being people and all, I do believe they try their best to make an enjoyable game, not intentionally ruin it lol.

In my personal experience, unenjoyable matches have been few and far between. Maybe like 1 bad match every month or two, which is pretty good for a pvp game. Your mileage may vary.

The real cure is finding a way to make support just as popular as any carry role. I suspect that if penta-assists/penta-save becomes a thing it would become very popular. Everyone just loves being the praised by the announcer when they kill shit several times in a row. It's a rush and support is the only role that gets ignored by the announcer.

Motivation to play support is better than forcing to support. For example, bonus IP for plaing support.

Not even that would help. I'll never go back to supporting in SoloQ.

Not because of verbal abuse (I rarely ever got flamed cause in most games I did a good/decent job). Not because of being underfarmed, underleveled etc. But because the monkeys I got ahead always decided to play Team Deathmatch instead of LoL and we lost games in S5 and 6. A support can't take towers reliably.

I'll play a supportive midlane (using that Azir Shurima Shuffle to peel for the ADC etc.) but I will NEVER put myself in a position where I can't win games thanks to killgreedy teammates ever again. And I'm positive that I'm not the only ex-support main that had this happen to them and that also quit being supports.

It is obvious autofill is cancer but you people will defend this shithole of a company no matter what even if riot started making it p2w you would still defend it.

Autofill is a necessary evil. Without it, queue times would only increase, ever exponentially until more people start queueing for and playing as support.

It has nothing to do with defending Riot, but rather accepting that Autofill isn't going away soon so we might as well deal with it.
