Why does it take blue essence to upgrade champion mastery?

I mean, you've busted tail trying to master a champion, and you get good at them and you try to learn their ins and outs only realizing you have to wait even longer to get that m7 on the champion you've spend weeks or months trying to master a champion only to have to fork over blue essence that you might have been trying to save for a champion to get that lovely blue symbol appear over your head when you press control 6. If there is a post somewhere that answers my question, please link it, but otherwise, I do not think that we should have to use blue essence to upgrade champion mastery's. Isn't getting 2 or 3 S ranks enough work to get that mastery?

"Why does it take blue essence to upgrade champion mastery?" Because that is what it is there for; that's the reason it exists at all in the first place. Because you don't gain mastery from using blue essence, you use blue essence to cosmetically change the animated flair that is the reward from what is an early, basic, mission system.

The reason those mastery levels were created was to respond to player requests and complaints that they wanted a point dump, something to use their Blue Essence on instead of champions. Unrelatedly, people were also asking for more champion mastery levels quite early on in that system as well. This was what Riot did to for those and came up with Mastery 6 & 7 as one way to satisfy those requests for things to spend Blue Essence. That's why they cost Blue Essence; they are there to spend Blue Essence on. And people like upgrading those Mastery Levels, and so I'm not going to argue with them about it.
