Athene's Terrible Grail

Honestly, I love using this item but its pretty darn garbage. The AP and MR that it gives are just not comparable to other items cough cough item 3001 abyssal septer, and it has so much CDR so sometimes its hard to fit in a build without going over max CDR(because that's just inefficient) due to tons of items having some CDR in them. I can't think of a decent situation to actually build this item. As an AP support, you could honestly just get an item 3504 Ardent Censor because it has 20 more AP, CDR, % heal and shield power, AND % move speed. I generally wouldn't mind trading a nonexistant amount of MR and excessive CDR for extra ap and more utility. (And honestly, the only champion who I can realistically see this working on is Sona Sona, even though i play Nami Nami with it occasionally : ^))

I like the idea of it though. I think they tried to make this item do too many things. It's like when they were reworking it they just had a big pot and were like "oh a little bit MR throws a item 1057 cloak in the pot" and "O WE WANT A LOT OF CDR AND MANA REGEN *throws in a million item 1004 faerie charms *" Anyway, it's not really viable in mid lane anymore because you're sacrificing so much damage. Like, you could get AN ABYssal and/or a Morellos, which both give tons of CDR.

I think it could be more viable if they upped the MR on it since it seems to be aimed at supports as well as maybe lowering the CDR to 10% so it doesn't clash with other heal/shield support items. I don't really see it as a mage item because of it's passive. Even if I were to go Orianna mid, I'd rather get a item 3165 Morellos because Morello op

Also, idk where to put this in but the heal/shield stacks(aka Blood Charges) you get don't work on self healing/shielding, which I find kind of ridiculous to a degree. I understand that if it worked like so, it WOULD probably become a viable mid item but I mean, when I'm playing an AP support and the Blood Charges don't work while on myself it's pretty irritating to die knowing the heal would've been bigger had it worked on myself. I guess another reason why Ardent is better ^^'

it's a good item on the right champions. it's more to compliment you if you have good base damage and a shield, so the likes of Karma and Ivern, etc. It goes very well with Redemption/Ardent as well

problem is support items have so much CDR you usually end up wasting gold if you buy this and despite requiring you to do damage to actually stack up the passive, it doesn't actually offer that much on its own

I was under the impression that item 3174 was always primary a support item. (Last passives were decent on Soraka)

I used to get it on Janna mid (lol)

Not worth it anymore, just straight AP is better for stronger shields/heals than the conditional one on the passive.

Terrible item for support. I never go it. Especially now with redemption being a thing.
