Why do not many people pick Dr. Mundo anymore?

Personally, I really like him as a top lane, his Q can chunk, his E is an AD steroid, his W is great for waveclearing, and his ult gives him great sustain. I just don't know why people pick him more. Is it personal choice, or do people think he isn't viable?

this is assassin meta, and for 800g you get grievous wounds, mundo is still strong but you gotta counter pick him, not first pick him. cuz if they get an AD champ at top to counter pick you.. well yeah you're probably fkd. for 800g he counters you, doesnt even need ignite, last season mundo was strong because he could build massive health/armor and most people went TP and no grievous wounds for bruisers/ads/tanks now theres grievous wounds, assassins, and ignite as options. mundo got it hard

I actually just played against an Olaf top as Mundo top and screwed up early game allowing Olaf to kill me under tower. He rushed executioner's calling + his corrupted flask. Now maybe his build is kinda bad lacking stats but I quickly realized I could still bob him hard with q and e even though he's Olaf (whose a strong laner)

That executioner's thing is really only gonna affect Mundo's ult, the rest of Mundo's dmg is still pretty absurd.

Tho perhaps it is bad he rushed it so early. But it made me realize that item is not so big of a deal, at least for Mundo imo. (Now when I built executioner's after my mr item as Gnar vs. Vlad it made a gigantic difference tho and I could just train Vlad down)

if he goes that squishy and he trades with you 1x and he realizes oh shit this item isn't paying off and he's stilld oing more dmg than me... a smart olaf would realize.. ok lets not go in full hardcock onto mundo and jab him with my Q + E(This is what made olaf vs mundo lane strong, since Q and E are longe range than mundo Q and E, assuming he hits you behind minions and not running up to you in a naked lane) cuz for mundo, mundo had to chase olaf behind minions to trade with him. He's probably trying to 100-0 you and not poking you... cuz olaf poke stronger than mundo unless the olaf is stupidly bad

hey im not saying that mundo can't win, but its a bit harder now. no one can deny that. none of mundos items were buffed besides spirit visage.. is he still strong? yeah.. but is he as strong? nah.. he got it pretty hard 15% extra dmg against enemies 500+ health higher? and grievous wounds? ignite is viable top lane now... up to 25% reduced CD on ignite from mastery and items? 45% on flash/tp/ghost yeah its tougher on mundo right now for sure

Great clear time in jungle. Solid 1v1 early. In lane can farm from range with full refund on Q and since last buff can trade in melee actually decently now that his E auto resets with extra bonus damage on top that now. So he's a high dmg tanky as fk mixed dmg guy with ranged harass which is decent siege poke. You can never chase him through his cleaver and never escape if you're lacking mobility in your kit. I'm frankly baffled by Riot's balance team he even received his previous buff which was quite over the top. Like what is his weakness now..?
