RIOT Please add SOULBIND CONFIRMATION for KALISTA

EDIT: Sorry, I originally posted this in General Discussion, but I realized it should be here in Gameplay and Balance. There are a few comments on the original thread. I really hope Riot reads and responds to this request!

I main a Xerath support. yes, I know, no one likes it. But regardless, I like it and I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT when an ADC picks Kalista, then feels free to soulbind and pick me up whenever he feels like it. I just got into a game w/ one and I specifically TOLD HIM in champ selection to NOT soulbind me. he did it anyway, then proceeded to mess up all my kill shots because he wanted to try and pick me up and throw me somewhere. SUPER FRUSTRATING. I told him to bind the jungler so he could pick them up when they hide in bush to gank, but no. And I see you added the option for the kalista to change their binding w/in the first 3 mins of game... that's great and all, but he didn't know how to do it and wouldn't look it up. I didn't have a chance to until later in the game and by then it was too late.

PLEASE add a confirmation box when Kalista tries to soulbind you, so I can just say NO to this. shouldn't signing away my soul be my choice anyway????

:S

Sincerely, An Unpopular Support Pick

inb4 everyone jumps all on the comments, this message is specifically to Riot, but I honestly don't use these forums so I don't know where this should go or be sent. Someone point me in that direction if you can, otherwise, you can keep your "QQ more noob", "just play the game", "don't Xerath supp" and whatever other [my opinion of how you should play LoL is more imporant than yours] comments to yourself.

Do I really have to play a game where there's a champ that can intentionally and unabashedly troll me on my own team, Riot?

That was the original release promise. They said it was an option, don't know why she was released without it.

Here is the reveal quote: The Black Spear Active: Kalista offers a pact to an allied champion,_ should they agree_, the item is consumed and the pair are Soul-Bound for the remainder of the game. When accepted, the binding enables Soul-Marked, a passive on Sentinel, and allows Kalista to use Fate’s Call when she unlocks it.

As you can see it implies that you can decline the pact.

I had a Kalista earlier today that for some reason waited till I was in lane to bind me. I'm walking to ward river brush and just randomly decides 4 minutes into the game is a good time to bind. So I'm stuck there...sitting right next to the river brush, Enemy Thresh jsut walks up and free hooks me and I die.

My team yells at me for just standing there despite explaining the situation. She multiple times ult picked me up while I was in the middle of my Morg ult, cancelling it, and at one point grabbed me with her ult so I wouldn't "take a kill, cause supports don't need kills to be good" so the person just casually walked off.

Yeah, I am all in favor of the binding being an option, and not mandatory.

You should pick a synergistic champion rather than being adamant about the one you want to play all the time. Consider Galio support-mage if you like AOE poke and CC. Galio and Kalista are acutally a brutally good combo that people don't seem to play often.

Kalista Ults, Galio knocks up the enemy team, Concussion the enemy, send the movement speed towards allies, and then Galio Ults locking down the enemy team. Kalista follows up with a Q-Dash towards her intended target, begins throwing spears into her enemies until Galio's Ult is finished. When Galio explodes, he then attacks Kalista's main target, getting the bonus damage of Kalista's passive, throws one more concussion bomb and the Kalista pulls the spears from her enemy for the kill and escape.

Upvote anyways since I like the idea of accepting a soulbind. Sometimes I get a dumb Kalista who'll take forever to shop, bind me when they get to me in bush and then the Enemy invades getting a free kill on me.

Riot. Please. For the love of your own fanbase. For the love of your own loyal players. Who are willing to pay money. Are willing to try and be cooperative and friendly. Are willing to try and learn your game, to enjoy your game, and even shovel money in your general direction out of appreciation of your game and the content you produce.

Either put in a confirmation window for Kalista's soulbinding, or remove it entirely. Yes I know removing it entirely sounds extremely harsh. But I've seen it used as a tool of harassment far more than I've seen it be used for good purposes. That kinda spreads a lot of negativity around your game's community. Makes people mad. Makes people not want to play. Makes people not want to pay money for your game, because they're a little mad that you've put in a character with a mechanic that was so obviously abusable right from the very beginning. I don't know if this was some kind of oversight, or if there is some kind of option that lets you refuse the soulbinding. But I am running with what I can see right now, and right now a player is unable to refuse the soulbinding. At least put in a consenting window. Then a player can just think. "Oh well okay, I won't consent to letting ImmaTrollU1992 soulbind me ever again" if they end up getting harassed. The player will have a means with which to avoid it. And maybe put a cooldown mechanic, or a refusal option that lasts the entire match, so the confirmation window can't be spammed.

You can't force trust. Kalista's soulbinding mechanic seems to be about trust and communication between two people. So that they can both kick as much butt as possible with a fun and cool mechanic. In theory. There is no trust in what she has right now, it's just one player enforcing their will on another and taking them along for the ride. It wouldn't be so bad if the player could AT LEAST refuse to be picked up and carried around, but they can't even do that. In practice. It kinda sucks, because it can be quite badly abused if the guilty party just feels the bizarre need to harass somebody. There are no hoops to jump through. No confirmations. Nothing. They can just go Kalista and have fun at somebody else's expense on a whim. And that's assuming their intentions are malicious and they're not just idiots, or not playing well.

Before anybody complains about the relevancy. The bulk of this rant, and no I am not going to deny that it is a rant, is aimed at Kalista and champs who can meddle with their teammates. Which I believe includes Bard. During a recent incident, I was made (yes, made, I would've loved to leave but leavebuster kinda got in the way, and I don't want to get banned for leaving matches filled with trolls) to watch a Volibear player get harassed by a Kalista player while the two other players in the group who were clearly in on it had the time of their lives stalling the match. Preventing Voli from getting any kills, and calling the Voli player a baby when he quite politely asked the Kalista to stop messing with him. The people ganging up on Voli claimed that they did not know each other, and that they weren't in cahoots. Even if they weren't working together, the three of them together were being a lot more than just a little "mean" to this one player. And as much as I would've loved to say. "Hey, come on Voli. Let's leave these bums, form a group, and see if we can get in a good match with some nicer players. We'll see how far they get with only three people". I couldn't bloody do that, because both he and I would've possibly been punished for leaving. I've already been booted from a match twice because of connection hiccups, and while I won't deny that if my net is being iffy then I shouldn't even be playing. I do NOT want to be punished for doing the right thing in denying somebody the chance to do the wrong thing, only to reward them by getting myself banned in the process. Fix Leavebuster to make exceptions. Fix Soulbinding. Do one, do both. Just please, do something about this. I know this post is a little irrelevant because it went from "CHANGE KALISTA PLOX" to "LEAVEBUSTER SUCKS :(". But I would've gladly removed myself from the matches these events happened in, and even tried to take the other people I saw getting picked on with me to go have actual matches if I could. I could not. In fact, I'm pretty sure the three other players reported me for the sake of trolling, and I'm worried the Volibear player reported me out of spite for keeping quiet and not defending him. I did what I believed was best, and I sat in silence and did the one thing I knew could end the match without repercussions. Try to win it, to free us both. But I still would've greatly preferred either not being in the situation in the first place or having the choice to leave it. Maybe even being helpful by convincing the player being targeted to leave with me, and join me in another match.

Please do something about this, Riot. I want to give you my money for your game in which I am having fun. I think I might've even wanted to buy Kalista because I think she's neat, but I'm not going to bother if going Kalista makes everybody on my side soil their pants in unison, and makes them want to leave, which in turn could possibly get them banned. I don't like being cornered in a position where my options are stay and be abused, or leave and give the abusers the knowledge that they might actually get me banned. It's bad enough that I get a few snide comments based on my champion choices just from the metagame existing.

For the record, this was a lot longer and had a lot of detailed retellings of personal encounters. I trimmed the hell out of it and it's still this long. I'm not going to deny that there is more than just a bit of emotion in this, and if I trimmed it any more it would start to lose that. But hopefully all this is taken sincerely.

A Kalista that can't soulbind without consent, is better for your player's moods than a Kalista that actually puts people off your game and causes your players to collectively exclaim "Oh hell no" at the champion select screen upon seeing a Kalista player. She's just way too easy to harass with right now, and that will just draw more trolls when they hear how easy it is to use her that way. Besides. A confirmation window will make it harder for accidental or "it was an accident lol oh well" soulbinding to happen.

No doubt somebody has something to say about my post, but I just needed to get this off my chest. Sorry for the length, but this was as short as I could get it while retaining everything I wanted to say.

Firstly, I approve of your unusual pick. If it works for you, do it. If anybody gives you a hard time, tell them a pro recently did it and it went well; that usually shuts up most people.

Secondly, this was actually a thing when Kali was on the PBE... for about three days. No one was accepting the spear, and Kali players went without an ult an alarming amount of the time. She requires teamwork to function, and you just don't find that in soloq. So rather than change her kit around to be less reliant on teamwork, Riot ended up just forcing people to be her slave.

BTW, I enjoy odd and crazy supports, I use to do it a lot (Skarner is so fun) so no objection to the Xer supp, but like I said last time, I think you need to accept the binding by clicking the spear.

I was Vel Koz support and a Kalista interrupted my ultimate saving their adc. I did not want to be bound... We ended up losing. It was a very close game. The ulti was never used to help me. qq.

Extreme Troller5/9/2015, 10:30:11 AM2 votes

no please, because nobody will accept the confirmation. so many troll here in this game, you will end up wasting your passive.

Occams Raiser5/9/2015, 2:25:14 PM2 votes

You were trolled from select. If you picked first he should have picked CAIT. Solo queue Kalista is an auto loss 8 out of 10 times.

Arcade Andrew5/9/2015, 7:05:14 AM2 votes

Better add Bard ult confirmation than!

Sukishoo5/17/2015, 9:10:33 PM1 votes

She picks you cause she wants you to feel her love! That can be no confirmation on love! IT IS AN ABSOLUTE.

YossarianSensei5/9/2015, 10:26:44 AM1 votes

Wut

I'm pretty sure it only soul binds you if you click on the spear, also there's an item to remove the binding

Attelia5/10/2015, 6:23:46 AM1 votes

Why wouldn't he soulbind you? Youre the support. I should think support Xerath (an awful choice btw) would synergize well with sentinel's soul-marked passive. Also there's STILL this idiotic misconception that fate's call can only be used to lob the support into the enemy team. idk why people are being stupid about it, but fate's call has always been a re-positioning tool with a knockup for all-ins. You'd think all these immobile supports (janna, xerath?, sona) would enjoy a free get out of jail/set up your ult tool.

Even today, we get all these sona and nami mains crying about being "thrown" into the enemy team. Pretty sure Kalista's oathsworn controls where he goes during fate's call.

Also, if a Kalista is using fate's call to deny you kills that he himself could not secure, he's just being a bad teammate. He would still be a bad teammate on any other adc. Ultimately, though, you're there to support him - not to get a bunch of lane kills and become the 3rd carry.

Basically, Kalista require good teamwork from both the carry and support. Bad Kalistas will waste their fate's call by using it just whenever and bad supports will use fate's call to ONLY engage (or only escape). It's such a versatile tool, but it requires smart play.

That RP thing is BS though. It needs to be removed. It was cute at first, but needing to remind Kalista to use it BEFORE you get to lane is an awful omen of the terrible laning phase youre probably going to have.

Modmar5/9/2015, 6:46:33 AM1 votes

I'm almost positive she throws it at you then you must click it in order to bind. So unless they changed it you must be clicking the spear when she tosses it.
