Never In My Life Have I Felt More Useless...

...than when I played against Rek'Sai top. This post is a little long so feel free to skip ahead to the end if you want.

I had picked Sion and the laning phase was agony. Any time I had even marginally won a trade, Rek simply pressed W, burrowed, and regenerated every point of damage I had done. Meanwhile, she could pop my shield before the cooldown allowing me to detonate it went off, take me down to half HP before i could react, and could zone me from farming just by being there. Eventually, my jungler (Yi) and mid laner (Yasuo) were kind enough to roam top at the same time. A Sion ult, Yi ult, Yasuo exhaust (don't ask me), and a Yakity Sax later, we had burned her flash and given her jungle Jax and Ezreal mid time to run up and kill all three of us.

I think this story tells us something important. Riot tends to build a champion with one particular role in mind, (in Rek'Sai's case, jungle) but then ignores how the kit can be exploited elsewhere. While in the jungle, Rek'Sai's passive regen is enough to make i so she needs to back less often, in top she only need to back when she realizes she can buy a first back Hydra. In the jungle, her tunnels give her a few "shortcuts" to ignore walls, in a lane, it gives her the mobility of Kassadin with none of the mana cost. In the jungle, her lack of mana encourages her to donate blue to a laner, as a laner, it makes it so cooldowns are all that keep her from going all in whenever she pleases.

I remember reading a post saying that being manaless in combination with being AD meant never needing to back, and only now do I realize how true that is. Between the regen on her passive and any lifesteal she build, Rek Sai almost never needs to base in top ;ane, and when she does, she has a teleport on her R key with less of a cooldown than the summoner spell.

TL;DR: Riot is too narrow-minded when it comes to designing champions. That, or they rush the champions out too quickly too look at the ways they can be exploited.

What makes you think Rek was only designed to jungle? Riot almost always has 2 roles in mind for every champion, just go watch the spot lights. Reksai top was a "thing" from the very beginning. Not an after thought.

See, the problem is that the match up was Sion against Rek'Sai.

As in, Rek'Sai nearly counters him. Lane Sion relies on sustained bullying ala E, whereas Rek'Sai is a designated sustain champ, the counter to consistent bullying.

Rek been op from the start though.

I feel absolutely miserable as Kat vs a good Fizz/Ori. But that is because of the match up not the champions.

That is a matchup issue, not a champion issue. If you take someone that can sustain or constantly bully you can deal with her more easily. For example, Malzahar can deal with her quite well due to space aids, and several champs can deal with her effectively. You had a bad matchup, that is all.

Seriously, people like you are the reason there are few junglers that can actually carry games.

if you pick Sion don't expect to win lane and less against RekSai

Yea, I have to agree with the other people, it's like picking gangplank into pantheon and wondering why it's a difficult matchup. Of course any matchup CAN be won with the right circumstances, but some are just more brutal than others.

Like others have said, it's a bad matchup. Rek'Sai is a tad bit overpowered though.

Two late game champs and one mid game champ take on an early game champ, early game champ wins, clearly op...

facepalm

A late game champ like Sion doesn't win lane. He focuses on freezing lane and farming into his late game. If he's smart, he'll avoid dying to to the early game champs (See: RekSai ) Adding in two more champs whom said early game champ will demolish early game doesn't change the situation very much. It improves your odds, but not by a lot.

Spit minions at him all day long from under your tower. I just build mana regeneration on sion and farm all day. Don't try to solo him or trade in melee range at all. Reksai is broken op early game.

This was just a bad match-up. Rek'sai has a strong early game, whereas Sion is much more mid and late game focussed.

It helps if you don't pick Sion though, he's useless.
