Roles in League of Legends

Hello !

I am a gold support main, I was platinum in S4 and S5 (Plat 1 was my best elo). Sorry in advance for my english. I joined League of Legends on Season 1, before the release of Cassiopeia. At the time the meta was very different, not only because we played ADC mid, but because players were a lot more open to off meta picks. We actually tried new things, even in ranked games. I am talking about this because of this Singed Support drama. A lot of people are arguing that leaving your ADC alone all game is not what a support should do. I agree with that, it not a support role to roam and counter jungle.

But is there any role that fit this gameplay ?

What can a player do, if he has a good idea to consistently win games, but to achieve that he has to play in a way that don't fit any roles of the dynamic queue ?

Back when Evelyn had a stun, some played her as a 'support'. But it wasn't really a support, she often leaves the bot lane and gank mid or even kill the enemy jungler as with her invisibility the enemy bot lane couldn't know if she was here or not. Shaco was sometimes played in a similar way, he started by taking an enemy jungle camp (red or blue if he could), and ganked mid, then he would go bot and 'support'. The ADC was left alone 1v2 ? If he couldn't stay and farm under turret, maybe he could swap lanes with a tankier teammate.

People tried double jungle, swapping lanes (not only top and bot, but mid and bot as well), even going 5 on a lane to push. The meta is what we know because players tried different things and saw what was working and what was not.

Not so long ago, there was a rework on Mordekaiser allowing him to fit in the bot lane. For a short period of time it was very OP, and banned nearly every game. We often see ADC go top, mid, or jungle like graves, kindred, kog'maw, quinn, even vayne.

If TOP, MID, JUNGLE, and BOT are positions, why is SUPPORT the only role in the dynamic queue ? Why are you obligated to play a support if someone could once legitimately pick Modo bot, or Quinn top ? When it comes to the bot lane, lots of people becomes close minded (except for Mordo). You can take what you want mid, top or jungle, but botlane it MUST be ADC and Support. Even if you have an Vayne top, and a Lulu mid, you have to take ADC and Support Bot.

I think this Singed Support player getting a suspension from RIOT, describes perfectly the actual state of mind of the game. If someone doesn't fit in the box, other players don't know how to adapt, and blame the one that made things differents.

I think you are 100% correct and that the immediate reaction from riot should be to change the label on the support queue button to "other" because that will shut everybody up.

I mean we had a double assassin bot, it was pretty average. But biggest thing is, none of us complained.

Support is by far the worst role in the game right now, it's no wonder you get people like that Singed main who want to do unusual things to break off this horrendous botlane meta. Seriously, I haven't had a single instance where putting support as secondary role didn't force you to play it 100% of the time, there is NO ONE out there who wants to play that godforsaken role.
